Title: 7970 unpowered risers Post by: ebmx66 on April 03, 2013, 01:50:48 AM Is it safe to use unpowered x16 risers on 7970s? I have two sitting here unused because they won't fit on my board without risers and the only thing I have right now are unpowered.

I have 1 rig with 2 7970's on the board and 2 on unpowered risers, but whenever I connect the fourth card I have to down clock one of the other cards on the board for some reason... I didnt think about it till now, but maybe its because of the riser, but I dont know what the symptoms would be...
I read somewhere on here that you can 3 or 4 unpowered risers but need power for the rest. Buy some Bitcoins now at the price that you would get for your cards on eBay. Post them for sale to cover the Bitcoins and your already ahead. But then you won't have the fun of having a crazy piece of kit in your room whirrign away kicking out loads of heat, part of the rig building/using is about the fun of it forsome of us not just the profit. Have to admit I love tweaking things in the set-upto optimise it for both power and hashing. There is a powered Riser DIY on here that I am going to do and make my own powered risers.
