The Bitcoin protocol may soon expect few changes to happen for good. Segregated Witness, also known as SegWit, which happens to be one of the scalability solutions is finally ready for release. The Bitcoin Core development team has reportedly fixed most of the issues related to SegWit v 0.13.1 software package. The latest version is almost ready to go live in its current state by Monday. It takes 4032 blocks to fully activate. That's more like 1 month. Who employs journalists that make mistakes as serious as that? It was an big endeavor to roll this out and Core team did extensive testing to ensure that there are no bugs. So it's not surprising that it took a long time from the first idea to the actual implementation, which was a non-trivial task.
Now that SegWit is ready I think it will be adopted very fast, because people see the tangible benefits it offers in terms of block storage capacity and security. I'm pretty sure we will see SegWit activating before the end of this year. The smear campaigns and FUD propaganda of guys like Roger Ver are to no avail.
