Title: Starting Miner -> Antminer S9 -> Advise needed Post by: tommyvanaarde on October 19, 2016, 07:54:42 PM Hi
I'm new to the forum and new to bitcoin! After spending hours and hours on Youtube and on this forum, I want to start bitcoin mining. I was searching for good bitcoin miners and the only miner I see possible profit is the Antminer S9. Or am I wrong? My electricity cost is €0.0579025/kWh or about 0.0635045669 USD/kWh. By using this calculator: /0hkWD7]https://[Suspicious link removed]/0hkWD7 (https://[Suspicious link removed) I became a ROI of 1.2 years and a profit of €167.69/month. (@ current difficulty) Am I right is this calculation or will it fail because of the changing difficulty? Any corrections, tips or advise would be nice! Thanks in advance! Title: Re: Starting Miner -> Antminer S9 -> Advise needed Post by: alh on October 19, 2016, 08:32:36 PM I usually use the "Bitcoin Calculator" on bitcoinwisdom.com, and start filling in numbers for prices and stuff. You can get accurate values for cost, and electricity usage, and running costs. The other questions you need to ask yourself:
1) Can I stand the heat generated? It's like a 1500W heater running full blast 24 hours per day. I have no idea where you live. 2) Can you stand the noise? Think hair-dryer running 24 hours per day. 3) Will the environment remain under 90F where it's running? The biggest unknown, besides possible breakdown, is the difficulty change that will happen over the next year. Assuming a value of 0 (i.e. No difficulty change) would be foolhardy. I can assure you that difficulty will increase over the next year. I would not be surprised if it's 50% higher (or more) 12 months from now. I would encourage you to read the S9 thread in the "Hardware" sub-forum. Yes, it's long, and there is some useless stuff in there. It is also a way better view than a smattering of YouTube videos (IMHO). Thanks in advance! your power cost is low enough that mining could make money for you. The s9 is the most efficient miner around but it has proven to be a bit fragile as compared to the s7 or s5. Also do you have solid internet without dropouts? do you have good power with out flux or dropouts? 220 volts = better then 110 volts? do you realize these put out close to 5000 btus of heat? http://rapidtables.com/convert/power/Watt_to_BTU.htm they are loud and they make a whistle at times. I have been mining for years and I have decent or even good rep on this site. read here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1599630.0 ---- note I have been help by yoshi goto from bitmainwarranty kind of a parent company to bitmaintech. this company does not service all of the world. some ways to direct the heat and sound https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1650756.0 Title: Re: Starting Miner -> Antminer S9 -> Advise needed Post by: tommyvanaarde on October 20, 2016, 12:02:16 PM Hi I'm new to the forum and new to bitcoin! I live in Belgium so I can just pick it up after a 30 min drive. This means no exta VAT and shipping. My Internet connection is stable and so is my power. The mains here is 230V so I can just use the 1600W PSU of Antminer. Noise isn't that of a problem but heat.. If I put the S9 in a room with dimensions of 2m x 4m is it needed to cool/vent that room? Oops, I overlooked your comment :o 1) I live in Belgium so extra heat isn't a problem ;) In the summer I will have to direct the heat out of a window. 2) Noise isn't a problem, I ran a Dell 2950 server (aka extreme-turbo-jet) in that same room and that wasn't a problem. 3) Yup, it is usually between 63*F (17*C) and 70*F (12*C). In the summer max 80*F (27*C) I've read quite a large part of the S9 thread and it gave me mixed feelings about guys being in love with it and other hating it..
