This newbie restriction thing, sucks like hell.
I've been reading on this forum for like 3 months+ so why the hell can't I post anything.
Yea I need 10 posts, I know, and I got them, but after waiting for more than 15min's I still can't post anywhere else than here......

You need to spend 4 hours online too.

You need to have a minimum of 5 hours on the forum as well I believe.
Personally I think the restrictions in place are fair and avoids spam in other forums which contain helpful and important topics.
Frustrating as it is, it's not too much hassle to overcome the restrictions with so much content posted every hour, just keep reading whilst logged on.

I think as well that these restrictions suck. bitcointalk.org is the only site I know to have restrictions of this kind.

The requirements look rather random to me. Also: does 5 random posts like this and 4 hours of hitting the reload button make me understand more about Bitcoin? I think not.

it is a bit overkill, they could halve it really, im just gonna leave my browser on and refresh it, I can understand wanting to stop spam and stuff.

yea the restrictions aren't the greatest but they are what they are and complaining about them isn't going to make them go away

The newbie laws do suck, but having been admin on some forums of similar size they are a much needed junk filter....

The newbie restrictions are not very nice, but its better than no restrictions for sure.

I should have made an account a few weeks ago, and used it for reading but I didn't so its my own fault that I have to wait.

Can anyone tell me how long it usually takes before a whitelist thing gets accepted? (if its good enough)

Bitcoin has a proof-of-work system, so does the forum! Besides reducing robo-spam, it also gives you some time to search and read before posting a question (or theory about why Bitcoin will never work) that has been previously answered multiple times.

Oh how I wish they would try to search....

i understand the purpose for restrictions. Im not going to bash the moderators for making them, but it sure does lead to alot of usless post...much like this one.

I agree with the newbie restrictions and wished more forums would implement them!

Oh I could think of at least one other, albeit a little less known forum, to have similar restrictions.  ;)

Providing a 0.1BTC donation should automatically lift your restrictions.  Expensive enough to stop spammers, but low enough to allow long-time holders in?

Haha, while they don't exactly suck I do find myself looking for an appropriate thread to post a thoughtful reply on...

There's at least 50 threads I want to reply on, but they're not in this area of the forum, that's for sure.

There are some good threads in here, but they're about 200 pages deep and pinned already, I doubt I'd have anything new to contribute.

Its really not that bad as by the time you're able to say something you're more familiar with your surroundings and the people here... like a stalker. Reading their comments and watching them while they have no idea you're there. :)

Even with the restriction look at how many new accounts go on to:

Ask for a loan.
Ask to buy with PayPal.
Determine that bitcoin is a "ponzi".
Try mining on their PC.
Discover a fatal flaw in bitcoin that no one noticed.
Boldly announce the future price of a bitcoin will be...

Any of these types of threads show that the newbie did zero reading on the forums. We want people here who want to learn or help. Not whiners and conspiracy nuts.

I think this is great to cut down on spammers and scammers.

It's like a sub-forum with newbies and a hell of new posts (mostly trolling) in the quest of a regular "membership".
Wouldn't discourage trolls and spammers, after all they are used to it ;)

They do suck, It's really rude. Shouldn't be up to admins to judge what post is good or not.

But the admins don't judge that at all.  It's an automated system.  If you're implying a machine can make an informed judgment on the spot, then I have to ask, from which year in the future do you return?

Being a newbie can create other problems... instead of posting in the proper forum, questions get posted in here.   

I've got some great questions I want to ask about hardware, but would probably not be suitable for the Newbies section.

These are valid posts from a REAL person, but I cannot use these questions to get to be a "qualified" user of this board by increasing my post count 'cause I want to pose these questions in the correct forum.

Yep, that's what I mean. As spamming seems to be allowed here, anybody spamming is more likely to spam elsewhere as well.
