Title: Help on starting with ATI card plz
Post by: Jcw188 on April 03, 2013, 06:33:54 PM
Hi all,

I am getting started with guiminer with a Radeon 6570.  I am having trouble installing the drivers without crashing my system, I think it might be the Catalyst Control Center crap that they make you install with the driver, so I'm going to try just pointing Windows XP to the driver.  Anyway if I can get that to work, do I then need to install ATI Stream SDK, is that right?  Anything else needed after that to get my system ready for guiminer?  Thanks in advance!

Try either an earlier or newer version of the driver/catalyst. That always worked for me.

Ok thanks.  Then will I def need to install ATI Stream SDK, or is it only a possibility?

Try installing the latest drivers for that card. If they work, great. If not, try the version before that. Continue until working.

Wait, it's my understanding that ATI Stream SDK is something separate from the video driver, that's all I was asking.  Whether I need to install that in addition to the video driver.

If you haven't fixed it yet, start by uninstalling any other video drivers you have, then check device manager to be sure that Display Driver = Standard VGA or something like that.  ATI drivers are funny and don't like playing nicely if other drivers are already there for another card.  I used to build/repair computers and ATI has always been this way.
