Title: Can you add a fee to a transfer AFTER you have sent it out?
Post by: iheartbitcoin on April 03, 2013, 11:42:23 PM
Basically, I'm a newbie and didn't understand the concept of tipping .0005 bitcoins per transaction.

I sent out a transaction from Blockchain > Bitfloor for 24 bitcoins and it is at 1% network propogation :(

Is there a way for me to cancel it?  It's suck with 0 confirmations and I would like to resend it with a tip!

ty :)

It will be included eventually. AFAIK it's too late to change anything about that TX.

The bitcoins will be confirmed sooner or later, I had to wait days for a confirmation before.

I'm still a newbie but from my experience, you don't choose the transaction fee, the software sets it for you.

The standard 0.0005 does it

I think the reference implementation sets the TX fees for you automatically based on the size and age of the content. There might be other implementations of the clients that allows a more customized settings for giving transaction fees.

AFAIK it's too late to change anything about that TX.

At some point a feature that was developed might be included in a release such that if the recipient of the funds wants to help a transaction get confirmed there is a way to help nudge it -- by spending the received funds and including a fee.    That way for the miner goes for the transaction with the fee but has to include the parent transaction that hadn't confirmed.

So there's solutions, just nothing running today.
