An example photo of one of each would be much appreciated. Thank you! :)

I don't have any pics on hand, but you'll see on the sides of the hologram of an error coin has 'CASACIUS' and not 'CASASCIUS' which is on a non error coin.

Easiest way to check is if the first bits are printed on the holo then its the error coin(the printing does not make it an error).  Or if there is a window with the first bits underneath the holo through the window then its not.

You could get yourself the Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins from Elianite.

More info here: https://coinfirm.org/ also available on Amazon and from forum members.

Otherwise Elianite has also made available a free ebook where you can see all of the casascius coins with their pictures.

Check it out here: https://coinfirm.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Casascius-eBook-Plus-2.pdf

Hope this helps.  :)

some good pics with the hologram error here.

I've noticed lots of coins have an 'error' run these days. it's pretty cheesy. stick with the first and best error.

Excellent, thank you for the helpful comments and links to pics. Can anyone tell what I have from looking at this blurry scan? I can't get a better pic now the coin is in a secure location out of state. Or there any way to tell by looking up the first bits on https://casascius.uberbills.com?

ALSO, I am curious about the printing of the first bits. Because "all" the other coins from 2011 I have seen have had the first bits printed like they are here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1664391.0 .

Any helpful comments appreciated.

Thank you!

that one's not an error. despite the blur you can clearly tell 'cascascius' is printed on the hologram, not 'casacius'.

looks like non error coins, or at least some of them, have that newer style of bits - http://www.goldeneaglecoin.com/resource/categoryimages/Casascius-2011-AnacsMS64.jpg

all the later ones do too.

oh, and newbies can't post embeded photos. it's an anti spam thing.

I believe the correct spelling on the non-error coins is casascius - https://www.casascius.com/.  ;)

er, yep. that's the whole point. the error coin misspells it on the hologram.

Agreed, it is very easy to misspell and I can see how the error came about.

Was there specific denominations that came with the error hologram or is it possible on all the 2011 coins?

the error was only on the first run of 1btc coins in 2011. they got the spelling right for everything else after that. i think 11,000 were made but maybe not that many made it into the wild. there was a second run of 1 btc coins in 2011 without the error.
