Altcoins are the edge of technology. :) If you have new ideas and/or if you think money, trade and technology could (and should) be better tomorrow you are welcome to setup your own alt[ernative] coin project. But like with many other inventions only a tiny amount really hits a significant market demand. Cryptocurrency exchanges and trades are still highly unregulated. After that is complete, it should resume move up and they will come racing back in dumping altcoins even more feverishly for BTC.
