Title: Block chain helping tourism
Post by: Juggy777 on October 31, 2016, 03:00:18 PM
Look like after swizz news this is cherry 🍒 on the cake 🎂. Many countries struggle to attract tourists and those that do manage to get a steady inflow of visitors, often find that they tend to congregate at major attractions leaving a lot of places that are visit worthy untouched.

Blockchain can ‘gamify’ tourism https://cointelegraph.com/news/dubai-and-norway-use-blockchain-to-redefine-tourism

I read that, but didn't understand why there was a "blockchain" element. My local supermarket (Waitrose ) runs a loyalty programme, and I am sure it is based on a central server. I didn't understand why this is different, unless each attraction runs it's own node on a blockchain of course.

I do not get this loyalty points incentive scheme... Do they give you some of your money back, when you visit destinations not on the normal tourist

map? Or do they track and manage these loyalty points on the Blockchain only? I think this should be expanded to 3rd world countries where

tourism income would make a bigger difference in the more rural areas.  ;)

Bitcoin can realy help the tourism. That is the case in my country. Especialy in the summer a lot of younger people are comming who are also Bitcoin users. This summer I met some of them and they were asking if there are Bitcoin ATMs and where are the stores that accept Bitcoins.
So, in order to improve tourism we should offer more Bitcoin related contents.

I am just glad we are seeing some more new innovative uses for Bitcoin, other than the currency token. We only see a few companies using smart contracts and tracking ownership of land with the Blockchain, but real innovation is lacking at the moment.

Tourism is very important, but the world economy is not really geared for people to take extravagant holidays these days. The only people that can afford this, is the people that are already wealthy and even they are struggling.

There is always great advantage of having decentralized server than central server, one of the important one is the likely manipulation in one server as well as if one server got infected network will remain strong in case of decentralized server. So blockchain makes lots of deferenece in all services where record has to keep securely. Same goes for loyalty and rewarding programs and promotion.

Having bitcoin ATM in any country can surely attract tourist who like to spend their bitcoin rather than applying for visa card in their local banks which will work on foreign countries. As well as even the tourist who don't have any such bitcoin ATM in their country may get attracted to visit countries where they can spend their bitcoins.

Yes Bitcoin use is gaining momentum. Now schools are also accepting btc as fees. It's a matter of time before every thing is making available via btc. Can't wait for it, this really should excite all btc users

Sure, there are tons of possibilities with the blockchain. It's funny how the blockchain came out and everyone is looking to solve problems with it, instead of the other way around.

LOL this happens In this world. Anything is possible. But it's good that btc is helping who ever thought it would be used for tourism. It can help so many underdeveloped countries.

I read small part of this post and I can't understand how the blockchain helps tourism? Maybe not blockchain but bitcoin helps tourism, that would be correct but I can't understand why do they used blockchain, than we can to say that html/css helps tourism but that will be wrong like this thread's subject.
It will be good if they integrate bitcoin payment in their shops (not blockchain :D :D ) and they will attract not many but small number of people and tourists and people's knowledge about bitcoin will grow. It will be good for country and tourists.

as far as i get from the news, those two countries will going to attract tourists to visit a "new" unpopular places where it's not so often discovered by tourists who most  of them are only visiting the landmark of the countries, they will more likely to build an application which is blockchain based to help tourists

as ACN Newswire said, “This program is proof that Blockchain is not limited to financial transactions but could be used in many ways, including promoting tourism," said Saif Al Aleeli, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation. He continues, "

the blockchain can be used for various thing not only for cryptocurrency thing

Maybe the writer mistakenly understand and believes that Bitcoin = blockchain. So he refers to blockchain instead of bitcoin. But in some up for this news, this is a great thing that bitcoin has been used in Dubai and Norway. Since they are some of the rich countries in the world. For sure it will help to boost the economy of bitcoin.

Well it's about time some Bitcoin company tried to mix a Blockchain rewards system and the real world similar to what Niantic is doing with Pokemon Go pushing customers to local businesses. Now tourists will have the incentive to visit different points of interests in foreign countries and get rewarded for doing so. I didn't understand what kind of incentive people would get though. Perhaps it would be a cashback offer or a free voucher or maybe something else?

I get already confused about what were the really offer, i thinked for a while this were something related to bitcoin, similiar as pokemon go, but would be just an incentive to let others know several places that tourists does miss when travelling.

My impression of the idea is that it is some sort of gimmick. Everyone is now trying to sell snake oil and are trying to make money from the blockchain craze. Would these blockchains even scale? I can see most or even all of these ideas get abandoned the minute they see the hurdles and limitations. Or maybe they already have seen them and are only starting the gimmick as a ponzi scheme like what most of the altcoins are doing.
