On October 31st 2008 the Bitcoin white paper A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System had been released by Satoshi Nakamoto.
If that never happened, none of us would be here.
A journey of a thousand miles began with that very single step.
Most of us are here for different reasons but I want to say the most simple words once more to Satoshi:

Also do not forget Adam Back and the development of Hashcash which is where Bitcoin's proof of work derives from. For me proof of work is still the best method to achieve distributed consensus.

Can you or anyone explain how/where the bitcoin was published? How people began to hear/use? Like some kind of advertising in forums or whatever...

I never read how it has spread in the beginning...

BEFORE october 2008 distributed finance was being discussed, this was done via cypherpunks and sourceforge and IRC. for years different ways to find a solution to a problem of finance without the need of corporations of government were being talked and discussed.

there were hundreds of different ways, but each had its flaws. but then atleast 10 security features that when combined in the fashion they were, became bitcoin.
in october a white paper was released to show a concept of how those 10 features were brought together in such a way that it just made logical sense that it actually achieved what everyone desired.

between november-december 2008 a very rough implementation was created privately and on january 9th the first block was created and several people got involved. hal finney was there alongside satoshi on day one. and within a couple weeks half a dozen people were debugging it and expanding it

within six months a couple dozen and within a year more kept joining.
and then this forum was created in november 2009 to concentrate all the talk into one place

as for trying to escalate adam back into some god.
adam back failed to achieve anything. he did not even help bitcoin. it was satoshi that put the puzzle pieces together where others have failed and it was not until 2013 before adam back came to the bitcoin community to make a bank funded corporation to try to over emphasise his concept to pretend he was involved from day one.
yes satoshi used his idea along with other idea's from other people. but that should not make adam back lord of bitcoin.

its much like saying the person that invented the wheel should be treated as the lord and saviour of cars. even though the wheel inventor had no input into the combustion engine or the road infrastructure. or even directly hand crafted the exact wheel for the first car or even any vehicle for 4 years. it was just his open concept that someone else hand crafted.
then adam back jumped on stage 4 years later not to show what he done in the car industry. but to announce a new tire company.

I think I am late by a day. However, happy (pregnancy) day Bitcoin! Thank you Satoshi Nakamoto for coming up with this crytpocurrency idea. Without your work eight years ago, I don't know what will I be doing on the internet today with no access to Paypal or Credit card at all.

Actually the day when bitcoin get launched is a revolutionary day from which new era of virtual currency have been started. I and many of us will never be tired saying thank you so much satoshi for your beautiful innovation.

Bitcoin first step ---> continuous development ---> secure bitcoin network ---- > more adoption -----> bitcoin accepted almost every merchants in the world.

Wow, yesterdays was my dad's birthday as well. Both of them on the same birthday is very interesting.

It's funny that the infamous "Bitcoin Pizza Day" always receives more public attention than the day the foundation of Bitcoin was released. It's true that the publication was only the first step of a long and industrious journey to the Bitcoin we use today. Nonetheless the publication of the White Paper by Satoshi was not a small step at all - it was a giant leap in the history of money. It's an ingenious invention, more worthy of a Nobel Prize in economics than any invention / theory preceding it.

Even though Bitcoin is still in its infancy, it has already changed many lives for the better. Every single day I'm grateful for this ingenious invention that may put an end to the usage of governmental fiat scam money, enabling economic freedom for everyone. And its just beginning to take over the world...

It is very fitting that we are taking the NEXT step with Bitcoin {SegWit} in the same week that Bitcoin was released into the world. Lets hope

this is a good omen for great times to come.  ;) ....The scaling debate can now be put on the back burner and we can now focus on much

Bitcoin is being really nicer and stronger than in past and actually price also seem to be more resistant to dumps than before, which is good for really nice future of bitcoin.

It is highly recommended to always invest money in bitcoin because the future of bitcoin have a great future since we are already experience the price from last year until now from few years and the present is different but according to chart it keeps rising every year and more price will increase will happen and reach so if you have bitcoins you can get the benefits of price increase..

Is it because of pregnancy day that bitcoin price still rise today and is well over 700 USD mark ? Jokes apart bitcoin has really gonne very far from that 1st single step. We are all happy to be part of the bitcoin community. I am sure for the majority of us it has changed our life for the better. So I wish bitcoin at least twice the success it have had until now.

it's not a big problem when bitcoin was born, really. whenever it was, the important thing is bitcoin is still here to be earn, to be our income, to be our investment.

The journey of thousand miles is true starts with a single step and it only takes the dream of one man to change the face of how we think and give us a new course of action not only Satoshi did this, but quite a number of people have done so in their various field whether medicine or science of finance and even in government but above all it should serve as a lesson for all of us that one person or an individual which is you or I can actually make a difference...

I never understood why people have such an emotional attachment to bitcoin like this.  And threads like this are just about as useful as wearing a sandwich board with "God I love money!" written on it.  Did OP buy back in 2010 or something?

most signature spammers are not emotionally invested, dont run a node and have no clue about bitcoin. they dont know its an actual currency and just think its some facebook credit system they can earn credits by spamming posts and cash out to fiat.

when you start actually using bitcoin to buy things DIRECTLY and you actually get a real job being paid bitcoin to not need to ever use an ATM card again you start to see the real benefits of it.

It's like our own journey on BitcoinTalk Forum, we start earning nothing as a newbie, and go step by step over the ranks, earning low amounts, next medium amounts and then, we reach to a high rank level and earn a lot!

It's like a game, where you upgrade your level and in the end you feel rewarded by everything you did. Same happens when you start a business, invest your money and then you make profit, upgrade your business and in the end you see how good it was and how good was your work for it.

Blockchain/Bitcoin is a new way to avoid government/banks/taxes and all this bs, for me it's a big deal and a big step. That's history, if people know the power of this will be great...
