I also suggest you to use simply https://www.myetherwallet.com if you are facing difficulties to use mist or any other desktop wallet, myetherwallet have almost all features, you can send ethereum, you can send tokens, almost all tokens accepted, you can add custom tokens also. Myethewallet is completely secure and highly recommended. Just keep one thing in mind. Add a strong password while generating the wallet (and the best thing is you can any time import your wallet of Myetherwallet to any desktop wallet, just save the private key somewhere safer).
