i just ordered myself an msi hd 7970 lighting and wondering what kh/s i should be aiming for at what configuration

atleast 600kh/s at default clock rates.

You hash in MH/s, not KH/s..

You won't hit 850 with downclocked memory, too unstable, you might hit 800 revving the main clock up to 1250 and overvolting, but that would still be pushing it a little too far.. You could brake the card..

yeah you have to be careful- last summer I had ambient temps in the high 30's C, and it was a battle to keep the cards cool enough. Nearly impossible.
