Title: [Solved] 18 hours transaction and the bitcoins still haven't arrived
Post by: digitacorp on November 04, 2016, 12:08:56 PM
Hello everybody,

Yesterday I created a wallet at Coinbase and put in some 0.14 bitcoins.
I then sent these boitcoins to my Poloniex USD generated address.
18 hours have passed and the bitcoins haven't yet arrived and I see (at the moment) 98 confirmations!
I'm a begginer and I tried to read a little bit about this but I guess it is not normal...
What can be happening and why is it taking so long? Can somebody enlighten me?

Thanks for reading

It should not happen if it have 98 confirmations on your side, I think you need to email poloniex support to check what is happening?

are you sure you send it to the correct address?

Yes, I copy / pasted and checked the transaction history ant the address is correct.
I opened a ticket at Poloniex 14 hours ago and still no reply.
Right now I have 100 confirmations. Strange...

Bitcointalk can't really help you with your problem. Just wait for poloniex support to respond. It is odd that it took 100 confirmations already but still not showing your account.

Did you send in the amount of 0.14 BTC? most sites just need 3 confirmations to confirm the deposit.

You can ask the mod for help, I got this info from their site, hope this helps you

If the deposit is not appearing in your Deposit History and at least 30 minutes have passed, please ask a moderator in the Trollbox to take a look, or open a ticket at Poloniex Support.

i think this is only fault of exchange site only .
i mean you should contact to poloniex .
you are now at 100 confirmation then the main problem is of some little program fault only . this type of problem was happened once with my friend but he contacted. poloniex they solved his problem after 2 days .

Yes, 0,14801082 bitcoins.
What looks weird is the ammount of confirmations, like you said 3 confirmations could be enough.
As mentioned before I already opened a ticket yesterday, I will wait but I am starting my trading an am a little pissed because of the delay, I was hoping to start my trading  profiting on the chinese dip... :-(

I guess you can only wait for poloniex support to get back to you, there is nothing you can do at this point  :(

I hope I'm wrong, but USDT addresses look pretty similar to BTC addresses. Are you sure you've sent to a BTC address and not USDT?

Please check make sure you've sent the Bitcoins to a Bitcoin (BTC) address. Polo clearly tells in red "please make sure you send only <coin name> to this address".
I have a hunch that you've sent to an address Polo doesn't handle. Because I've never had such problems...

I really hope that I'm wrong....

You have a good point there, I now see what I did wrong.
In Poloniex I should had made the transfer to BTC address and not the USDT address. As in the main page where it says "BUY BTC" you must have USDT, I clicked "Deposit USDT" and it gave me a wallet address, I made the transfer to that address.
But shouldn't the transfer from Coinbase not happen due to an incorrect address? And will it be possible to undo the transaction?

I'm pretty sure it is gone. You sent it to a BTC address that probably no one has the private key for.
What is the address you sent it to?
My guess would be you can look at it on blockchain.info and see the coins sitting there, but there really is nothing you can do about it.

I think it is much better if you put a transaction ID here for us to check the transaction progression. Others here may have a good idea what is really happening if you do not mind.

Hope it is ok now as of this posting.

I think coinbase does count USDT as valid address because i have heard somewhere that both bitcoin address and USDT adrress have similar structure and also please wait for poloniex reply may be they are the only one who can help you on this issue.
Meanwhile found this problem similar to yours, but OP didn't concluded his situation on last check https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1607416.0

Yes, I also found this tread meanwile and posted a response to the OP asking how the situation turned out for him.
He hasn't logged into this forum since September so I guess he won't reply any time soon.
In the meantime I am waiting for Poloniex's response to the ticket I opened yesterday.

You should wait for the responce from poloniex and they should fix this issue since we since not only you the victim of USDT address and there is other also but you shoould still wait for the responce and maybe it will be fix soon. maybe the op there is fix already that is why he is not coming back..

Please let us know about the latest status of your case. Not accepting a Tx after 100 confirmations is very unusual.

The address that they sent it to was for a USDT wallet, not a BTC wallet. So I am sure that it has been sent and is sitting in at the BTC address with the same address as the USDT one used. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they are two different blockchains. So the coin is sitting on the BTC blockchain at the address sent to. The USDT address will not see the coin because it was broadcast and sent on the BTC chain, not the USDT chain. And since I'm sure no one has the private key for that BTC address, then the coin is essential inaccessible and might as well be considered gone.

What this USDT thing is? Is it an alt coin having bitcoin like address scheme?

Yes, it is an alt-coin linking the BTC to USD fiat. Essentially a way for exchanges to trade in USD prices without actually holding any USD, so the same regulations don't apply.

If you have sent the bitcoins to a wrong address generated by the exchange then they should probably help you out on this because you have not sent the money to somewhere else but they were just sent to a wrong address, if they can really reach somewhere in the exchange then you will surely get them back.

I think if u read last 3 posts before yours, u would have understood that Polo did not generate any wrong address. It was an alt coin address, where bitcoin was sent. Now, no one has the private key. So, the bitcoins are potentially lost forever.

I also make this wrong once ,I send strat coin to start address, they address rules are same,so i lost the strat coin.

UPDATE:
Poloniex response to my ticket:

Thank you for getting in touch.
Please do not ever send one type of crypto currency to the address of another type of crypto currency. Mistakes like this can lead to the complete and irretrievable loss of your funds and so always be vigilant.
However in this case I am happy to inform you that I have succeeded in recovering the funds for you.
They should be credited to your account shortly.
Please let me know if you feel that there is still an issue.

I confirm that the funda are in my account now.
I'm glad my money isn't lost :-)

Wow! I'm surprised they were able to do that. I wonder if they just gave you the coin to keep a customer happy. Care to share either the wallet address or the transaction I'd? I'm curious to see what actually happened.

I dont know how USDT address scheme works. But, it seems, Polo had the private key of the USDT address and could generate the equivalent bitcoin address private key from that.

So USDT is built on BTC, so the USDT address you sent it to sees the 0.148 as $0.148, so they just sent out the $0.148 to your BTC address which sees it as 0.148BTC

Strange, but I guess it makes sense.
