A computer today has 4GB or RAM, hence a 64bit OS. If your computer is too old, the CPU will also not mine much, if this is a consolation for you. You can either backup your OS and install a 64bit one either just try to use some USB Linux distibution (64 bit!) to see for yourself if mining worth it.
