Title: Is too much anonymity a bad thing for BTC
Post by: BTCisthefuture on April 04, 2013, 06:26:09 PM
Over the years we've all seen some pretty massive scams.  To this day it seems like the largest bitcoin related sites and services almost all ran by people who have concealed their identity, which potentially opens the doors to these services being massive scams by criminals and theives.   Heck we don't even know the person(s) who created bitcoin, I don't think this is the case but it in a world were anything is possible it wouldnt be out of the realm of possibility that bitcoin itself is one massive intelligent scam.

So what do you guys think?  Should the BTC community work to bring LESS anonymity to BTC or are things fine as they are now?

Don't trust third parties to hold bitcoins for any more than the absolute minimum time, and don't engage in business deals with bitcoins that you wouldn't do with cash, and you've just avoided 95% of the scams.

Bitcoin is not anonymous ENOUGH.  Of course there will be those who use it to engage in crime, but what could be worse than the present system where billions in drug money are laundered through wall street by the gang members we call our leaders?

that is not to say that in today's terms, Rothschild have much of a company secret to hide.

neither have Shariah banks, in fact.

With Bitcoin anonymity is optional. If you choose to tell everybody an address is yours, then you're no longer anon and we can watch transactions going in and out as we please. This is good for online trusts or service provider cold wallets, so you can watch the account to see if the owner is siphoning funds. You can't do this with a bank, ask them to tell you the balance every day of their accounts to see if they've over loaned too much of their customers money. So Bitcoin is less anonymous and fully transparent if you want it to be.

As for scams, ponzi investment scheme operators were able to flee into S. America with everybody's cash using the regular banking system and escape justice so there's no difference there.

Isnt that what the bitcoin foundation is for? Shouldnt it be bringing public people to represent bitcoin?
