Maybe the forum could start creating some new features to get more money for the forum expenses, like start allowing forum users change name for a amount of BTCs, or add some effects on the profile informations, like name account with another colour, with special effects... This kind of stuff, and the forum could earn extra income with that.

The forum does not actually need any extra income. Besides, you just threw your idea out there without any exact proposals (pricing, etc.).

This would be a *heavenly feature* for scammers, so no.

Well, I don't know the prices. It would be just like an extra feature, as many already saw on another forums. It's just an idea, to make people contribute to the discussion on this thread... But as you aren't interested on it and the forum doesn't need extra income, forget about it.

If by *contribute* you mean a high chance of becoming a signature spam infestation, sure. Let's see what happens.

You can easily check how much the forum is generating via the AD slots from the auctions. Technically it doesn't need the income (but who doesn't want extra money?) and theymos is thus not inclined to make such changes. I'm not saying that I'm not interested in exploring such ideas, however name change is likely going to cause more trouble than it's worth.

Ok, I understand it about the name changes, but on every thread there is a high chance to find every kind os poster coming to do his "contribution", including signature spammers, hard to stop it, if we be worried everytime about them, we can't talk about anything here.

As extra money is always welcome, the forum could have a tab where we could find a "shop" with some "accessories" to our account. If you want to have your name in blue, green, yellow, red... You could buy it on the shop.

If you want to add an effect on your name, like metalized, shiny, texturized... You could buy for different prices, and the money would go to the forum. Customization options. Possibility to add a gif to the avatar spot (don't know if it's too hard). If someone think there are more things to add, fell free to say.

I believe you can change your name if you donate 10btc to the forum.

basically what you are suggesting here is to lower the 10 btc ( to become vip) donation to be able to change name.
Changing name is not given just to anyone mainly because of what Lauda said, scammers will abuse it. It'll get confusing as well.
You can change name i you ask theymos kindly if you are reasonable on why you want to change your name. I've seen members before that has a different name now.
And oh, the forum does not need any extra. It's already good as it is.

Theymos has stated the money set aside for the forum has mostly been spent.  The forum is far from finished.  So yes, the forum needs money.   :-\

By extra I'm not referring to money, I meant the extra stuffs that he is suggesting.

Correct. In meta it can spiral out of control since you can't have self moderated threads. Besides, this thread can be easily answered by random one-two liners so that has to be paid attention to.

I wouldn't be necessarily against something like that (gif. avatars are implemented in new forum), but as I previously said, I just don't see it happening without concrete planned out proposals (unless theymos surprises us with such changes).

That's the Donator rank, I believe OP suggested paying solely for name change.

Theymos has already stated that this will not happen. They made introduce some lower donation tiers (that post was written a long time ago though).

Either you have proof that shorena == Lauda or you're on some fine drugs. :D

Didn't know if someone gives 10 BTC to forum becomes VIP and can change name.


Well, if the forum needs money and isn't finish yet, why can't this be implemented? Extra money would be very welcome!  ;D
I think if it's easy to add those stuff on forum, it can worth.

And if someone doesn't like the idea like jacee on post above, just don't buy any stuff.

I don't think that turning Bitcointalk into Facebook would be the best way for it to earn more funds. I actually prefer having the same minimalistic theme, instead of adding tons of glitter to it. What are we, five?
