Title: What would be nice crypto portfolio for the future?
Post by: zoza14 on November 12, 2016, 12:47:13 PM
Hello everyone,

I am a strong crypto believer. Bitcoin believer first of all. I am trying to invest as I can afford, trying to earn bitcoins, etc, so I can make myself a nice crypto fund for my retirement! :)

After much thinking, I came to decide that I would be happy with 21 BTCs and 500 ETH for this future fund of mine. Why Ethereum you might ask? I am a strong Bitcoin believer but just in case, I think that one should hold some ethers as well. After all, this is a number 2 crypto and I was always thought that I should never keep all my eggs in one basket.

So I am curious to know other opinions. Are these 21 BTCs and 500 eths too much, too little, just right or whatever someone might think. After seeing answers, I might even re-evaluate my stash goals as I am still nowhere close to the numbers above, But I am working hard and trying to get there.

Mods if you feel that the topic doesn't belong here, feel free to move it to the right thread.

Thanks guys and all the best!

as a hold. keep bitcoin.

only delve into altcoins if you are day trading and wanna play with penny stocks for a few hours.
dont hold altcoins. just trade in and out of them for small percentages as quick as you can to then get back to holding bitcoin

All this also depends on your wishes for the future. If you still have sufficient funds to carry on life as usual after making 21 storage BTC and 500 ETH then I would argue that it is something that is very good. Because the number of BTC and the ETH can give you greater benefits than those who keep up with the amount that is lower than you. Don't worry about the price of the bitcoin and ETH, as I am sure both the akna crypto has a good price in the future

Etheriumcoin is not a number 2 it's just a scum. Litecoin is number 2. All you need to know, is Litecoin loves you, and it's gonna cost $50

There is no such thing as bitcoin portfolio.

You either have some bitcoin in your portfolio, or you don't.

For example; %10 gold, %10bitcoin, %20stocks, %30cash, %30 real estate is a nice portfolio.

Making a portfolio out of m-eth, m-eth-c, shitcoin, scamcoin is non-sense.

21BTC that is 0.0001% of all Bitcoin to be in existence, well done and I also like the way you hedge your bet into other project like Ethereum, some Bitcoin believers don't believe in anything apart from Bitcoin, I'm very sure in coming year, we will see a solid project that will give Bitcoin a fight for its money which will be good for Bitcoin or maybe the project already exist

I think your plan to hold 21 or more bitcoin for your retirement portfolio is great. I wish i can do that and you have given me good encouragement to work hard and achieve it. I also believe in hedging your bets with a few good and upcoming long term altcoins. I don't own any ETH yet but it's good to include that also. Check out Monero as well and ofcourse my little coin QIBUCK..I am trying to build it as an asset class coin and will take me a few years to get it to where I want to get it  :)

I agree that 21 BTC might be a good target but might be difficult to reach, unless you have a lot of cash to spare. And even after you have reached the target, you will keep wanting more- basically the more the merrier!

As for Eth, there is no "maximum number" for it so eventually the value will drop and you might want to spend them or convert to bitcoin for long term.

Other than these two, you may consider LTC, but it's future is really not too bright. DOGE is just for fun.

So in other words, your target of keeping and saving cryptos is the one that will covered your financial needs after your retirement. That is an interesting goal but however you must also keep in mind that whatever amount you will able to managed after your retirement must be take place seriously. I don't know if you will still continue your current doings of earning your bitcoin once you reached that retirement stage meaning if ever you it's likely you will stop, your crypto earnings will stopped too and we didn't know the value of those crypto at the time of your retirement.

So what is the wiser way to do? Make an investment at the middle of your journey than can take you for a long term profits even you don't have to make a full time on it. Yes a big business out of your crypto earnings whether business online or in real world. If ever you reached the point that you can't make it to a fully monitoring of your business once you get too old much, you can passed it on one member of your family.

Thanks for all the great answers so far.

Looking at your answers, I guess that the 21 BTCs number and then if we add 500 more ETHs on the side is a quite a high number. I must admit that I wasn't aware of that.

I am also quite far from this overall number. I have just passed a 10 BTCs on my complete crypto investment few weeks ago. I feel this is not bad as I am involved for about a year with crypto.

I might even reconsider my initial numbers of 21 and 500 and lower them a bit. Especially if the growth in price continues as it is growing this year. I wish Bitcoin was longer time in 200$ zone. This would make my investing much cheaper.

Than again it's not bad to set our goals really high sometimes, it makes us work harder to reach them! :)

Cheers everyone!

Any cryptocurrency which have really intentional development which can make impact on future with decentralized technologies can be good for investment. Already many of altcoins with specific intention and moto are created by some of great visionaries. Few of are great considering future investment. Stellar, ICONOMI, DECENT are few of them which have specific intention with its development for decentralized platform.

Instead of diversify your investement into bitcoin and ethereum i believe you would get better result if you just focus into bitcoin, altcoins are used in the general for pump and dump, soo in the future bitcoin will get a bigger price and altcoins should loose value against bitcoin.

Until now, everything had indeed played out like this. Bitcoin has beaten everyone. However, I see BTC and ETH as 2 completely different players. Like a lightweight and heavyweight boxers. I think that ETH deserves at least a small chance. I do still think that BTC is a king and with Segwit and other solutions, Bitcoin is solving some of its major problems.

ETH is a platform that does work. Look at Golem crowdfunding from yesterday for example.

We will see everything. I also doubt that ETH value can go to 0 over the night. This means that I always have time to pull a plug. Of course if there is no serious bug, but that's a risk that must be taken!

If you just like to diversify your investment into bitcoin and ethereum than its fine but the marketcap ethereum have is really low compared to what bitcoin have. So that price of ethereum is more volatile than bitcoin and actually ethereum foundation is behind ethereum who also hold greater % of available ethereum so they can at somepoint can crash the market with one go if they need some funds for the name of world tour, meeting or development.

This are the few reason why many don't believe in holding ethereum along with bitcoin including me. Altcoins are just for day trading and also just to minimize the loss when bitcoin price get few $ correction. For long term holding i will only suggest bitcoin.

those saying 21btc is a large number. are usually those who only have a few satoshi's to their name(where $15k is more money then they ever seen in their life). but if you can afford 21btc easily. and if that 21btc is only going to amount to lets say 25% of your life savings then its not a biggy.

id suggest 5% cash, 25% gold, 25% bitcoin, 45% real estate.
also the way fiat is inflating think about decreasing the 'cash' hold if you want to put funds elsewhere

usually if your not super rich, then real estate ends up being a big chunk of life savings/investment
which in reality looks like
id suggest 1% cash, 5% gold, 5% bitcoin, 55% real estate. (imagining life savings was $200k and a house minimum price was $150k)

as for ethereum.. dont treat it as a permanent hold. jump in and out of it to increase your BTC holdings when the price is right

You're looking at a lot of Bitcoin for starters. 21 is getting close to $15,000 USD, and if you have that kind of money, then something like $5,500 in ETH probably won't be a terrible hedge against any movements.

Right now it looks like nothing is going to really happen, so it might be wise to hold off for a while, but what do I know. Do whatever you want.

Your Portfolio should not be static, but should adjust as the situation change. I have diversified my portfolio into several investments. Some of

it into physical gold and silver, because I think there will always be a market for that. I keep ZERO fiat, because I am about 100% sure it will

fail soon. Your future, should not be reliant on 3rd party services... holding your commodities and shares... You should be in control of your

own destiny.  ;D

For a long term hold, you can just save bitcoin forget about ETH. I think better way is to keep playing with your crypto holding like day trading. It is quite risky however return is really nice and 25 bitcoin could be enough for you to earn atleast 10% weekly if you go good with trading.

i think holding might not the right choise you should need to trade it so that it can yeld a minimum amount of profit during time which is normally kind of risk taking and if you need to make it as your retirment plan the  you should make some more amount just in case of insurace of these investments

Well, I think that's good idea for the future and planned to do so but sometimes my friends influence or persuade me to sell my bitcoin just in case there is some problem like hacked and price fall down. But, if we think it clearly and trust on bitcoin future, holding is a good long term investment as the price constantly increasing every year.

I think the only crypto you can trust is bitcoin. Other cryptos could get a good ROI in short time.. so if you want invest in a long term you can't trust anything.
See ZEC ... start with a literally explosion and now (if you have invested something) you have loss a lot of cash.
Speculate in short time with crypto is convenient, but in a long time there isn't anything you can use :(.

A good cryptocurrency portfolio would be Bitcoins, monero and litecoins. Bitcoins and litecoins have been running for a quite long time and have a stable market price and at the same time you'll find a lot of online as well as external vendors accepting Bitcoins and litecoins (very few accept litecoins). Monero is a new horse in the game and seeks to have more emphasis on security and privacy. I'm a total fan of its ring signatures concept. At the end of the day by distributing your income into 3 portfolios you're minimizing your risk and stabilizing your gains. It's be nice to invest in Bitcoin startups for a change and help them succeed to get dividends as returns if they provide any.

You can create your own portfolio by keeping Bitcoin on long term and by trying to collect as much coins as you can. I.think Bitcoin is most profitable on long term. But once in a while it would be good to get a part of your coins on the market, with trading and investing so that you can grow them and keep circulating.

Did you think in investing those amounts in a project which make you able to get yearly interests from them, there are many new blockchain based legit project such as ICONOMI, they will pay dividends in Ethereum coin, and in any time you can sell the tokens and restore your money if you were not satisfied, ICONOMI team is working on building legal company and attracting great investments.

I am not sure about all this. Too much risk, little reward. I will rather hold 10 years and just hope we will see 1 BTC at 50k one day!! :)

The idea of never keeping all your eggs in the same basket is a smart move and I like ethereum too.

Hold is a good option but this world have no easy money, just work outside cryptos and buy coins, that's the best way.

What is also important is how long you have before you retire.
If your retirement is 25-30 years away, 21 BTC might be more than sufficient.  :)

I got easily 30 years! :) But I think this is too much time time for Bitcoin. 10 years will suffice! :)

Ethereum is the number 2 crypto?

I thought that dogecoin or litecoin is the number 2 crypto.

For the last 5 months i`ve seen many people saying that ethereum is dead.Is this true?

A nice crypto portfolio for the future is structured as follows:

100% Bitcoin.

The risk-reward ratio of all altcoins is simply not very good. Bitcoin has by far the largest network effect. It draws in the most developer talent and will continue evolve. All altcoins basically depend on Bitcoin as their reference value. Only Bitcoin has gained some significant real world acceptance.

If you want to diversify your portfolio buy some other assets like precious metals. In my opinion most altcoins will devalue compared to Bitcoin (they might gain compared to fiat though).

ya.ya.yo!

I do believe bitcoin is great for future investment, and i myself will save some for the future, but 21 BTC is too little, and investing ethereum is a risky things, ethereum had a bad security which resulted a hard-fork, and i do agree don't put all of your investment in one basket, but alt coin seems a bit unstable for investment, i think you better hold on to bitcoin and gold

As of right now I think there is nothing worth holding long term besides bitcoin cryptocurrency wise. All the altcoins are useless compared to bitcoin, no other coin can compete... maybe to try to make more BTC in market swings I would hold some ETH, ETC, XMR... any of the ones with good volume.

21 btc is a great figure.

alts? man, i dunno. i'm not confident that any have a long term future worth bothering with. there's definitely money to be made, far more than bitcoin pretty often, but you have to time it right and you'd be foolish to get emotionally attached to any of them. better to treat them as what they are - short term pumps and dumps.

if i was gonna go down the long term alt route i'd be looking for stuff that's just beginning and costs next to nothing. no point enriching pumpers for coins that don't have much or any upside left.
