Title: Bitcoin Wallets
Post by: mrr09 on November 12, 2016, 03:32:10 PM
What do you think it's better to use as Bitcoin wallet ?
Blockchain ? Coinbase ? Xapo ? Bitgo ? Green Address ?
My opinion, better choose a Coinbase.
Why ? Because, because, there is no transaction fee.
What do you think ? Is there any other wallets into your advice ?

Coinbase is not a wallet thats first thing.
Second, they are privacy abusing, not respecting cutomer service, that needs to be shut down.

I wouldn't advice blockchain.info either, choose any other from your list :)

There is whole section of the forum which is specifically about web wallets and discussion of them. This thread doesn't belong here (Bitcoin Discussion). Move it to its home board.

Coinbase is not a wallet thats first thing.

Coinbase is a web wallet. And it started as a web wallet. If you want to say that it is an exchanger, then all web wallets that I heard about are exchangers as well (Blockchain.info is considered to be a hybrid wallet).

The word better depends on user's criteria of making it as best. Since you are good with Coinbase then it's better based on your own experience and view. For storage purposes, a wise bitcoiner will not used any web wallets as it's prone to hacking and it's common that if you don't hold your private keys you are prone for those risk involved about web wallets.

Web wallets for me are just meant for a quick transactions since some of web wallets services is really giving us a convenient way of sending and receving bitcoins.

I suggest using btc.com (blocktrail.com) wallet . as some of options you mentioned don't give you control over your private keys and have some security issues. I would've choose Blockchain.info If the old version was available to use but they totally screwed it after upgrading .

Technically , as long as you have the private key It should be considered as a wallet otherwise It's not.

You can't just pick a wallet and label it best just because it don't charge you any transaction fee. Coinbase wallet, as what they already mentioned is a web wallet and web wallets are not that secure when it comes to holding bitcoin. Coinbase does not allow you a full control to your privatekey and imagine once their service shut down one day, you can't get your bitcoin because their site is offline. Better try a wallet like electrum, multibit, bitcoincore and mycelium.

For me Xapo is the best and the fastest bitcoin wallet out there and it has the option to spend your bitcoin in their shop, but i don't recommend using only one bitcoin wallet and have all your bitcoin on it , i try to use them all and divide my bitcoin on them because that way if one of my wallets gets hacked or stolon i won't lose it all

I have used Xapo and Coinbase. For me I did not feel xapo was easy to use, don't know why. I felt coinbase is the best and very simple to use. I really like the simplicity of it. All my transactions were done so easy. I would recommend it to you if you are a newbie. Other wallets I haven't tested so not really sure about them, so stick with coinbase

Did you get any specific reason to go only web wallet ? If only mobility is your concern, a mobile wallet may serve the purpose.

there is no transaction fee.
Never hesitate to pay transactions fees. You may assume tx fees as your token of encouragement to bitcoin miners as well as bitcoin ecosystem indirectly. Other than spreading awareness on bitcoin system, we people do not get any easy chances to pay back our gratitude to bitcoin system. Maybe paying tx fees is one chance. Still pay only enough fees.

I don't think coinbase as good wallet due to their quite hard to understand KYC and verification procedure along with country restrictions and shady source of bitcoin investigation just like in banks. Better to pay transaction fee rather than going through all this problems.

I like blockchain.info wallet in general for everyday transaction need but electrum desktop wallet also provide good security as they are not as vulnerable like web wallets. For small level of storage and using bitcoin daily, blockchain web wallet + electrum desktop wallet could be enough.

I don't think Coinbase a good wallet, because it doesn't allow you to use your money to bet on gambling games. That is a very negative rule for an online BTC wallet. Despite the fees I still prefer Blockchain.info.

They have some rules that has been decided by someone else and they can't break those rules, they should make happy the regulators.

I think that they offer a good service depending on what you want to use because the wallet and exchange are two seperated things there.

Besides online wallet I would suggest you to search for hardware wallets as I consider they have a higher security level.

I'm impressed that none linked this to OP... https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet (https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet)

There you can see strong/weak points of every wallet and you can find PC/Mobile/Hardware/Web wallets, this will depend of how much you have, for small ammounts, you can use an web wallet, isn't so safe but it's pratice.

That is the link for those you are not at all aware of what are the available wallets and its category.
But, it seems OP to be well aware of basics of wallets and he is very clear with his available options. That may be the reason, why members were not suggesting him to visit there.

Xapo also does not charge tx fees for our outgoing transactions. I am using it for 2 years without any problems.

yes if the transaction fees are too much for you and you find it expensive then use services like coinbase but you should know that it comes at a compromise, you are giving up your control over you own money to a third party which can decide everything for you and restrict your usage and even cut your access if they see fit. also there is always risk of getting hacked. so if you are ok with these, then go for it.

I had a bad expereince with xapo, my account was locked but that's not a big deal since there little amount out there. Better to have your own private key so you can controll your money whatever you do no one can freeze it, just a friendly advice.

just confused why blockchain is not on web wallet list , maybe that site have some problem with it or problem in security ?
For your information blockchain.info has been delisted from bitcoin.org because they are not considered secure enough, though i still used their service for 3 years and i don't have any problem, however there are some cases like hacking, dns attack and others but until now my bitcoin is safe.

What you told about "it can worth depending for what you will use the BTCs" makes sense. If you don't want to gamble with the money in Coinbase wallet, and are using it just to hold, it can be good. But as most people here are always gambling a bit here or there, doesn't worth very much.

Don't be baited by online wallets which offers to pay your transaction fees. Bitcoin sending is not free, it never intended to be totally free, you need to realize that sooner than later.
Every single wallet which pays your transaction fees (Coinbase, Xapo) has extremely unfriendly Terms of Service. They own your bitcoins! Just waste some of your time and read it.

https://xapo.com/terms/ (https://xapo.com/terms/)

COINBASE is best near to me. There are no transaction fees and its safe and secure to use. i set up 2 step verification so it's can't  hack by someone. I am happy using coinbase,no need using another walletes.

I'm just curious few weeks ago that segwit feature added happen or includes some wallet when coinbase is upgrade form their old beta version of coinbase and now it is officially i experience of paying the fee manually..  This is just base in my experience few weeks ago.
But i think right now they are not asking for fee.. unlike few weeks ago..

I think many users report this problem.
But coinbase for me is not good if you are a gambler so for me i stay on electrum because i can choose what fee and priority i would like for every tranasction..

and there not support private key too
so can reduce is good wallet
