How do I know if my setup is working?
As soon as you have one accepted share your payout address should show up on the website. If your payout address is listed under "Registered payout addresses" then everything should be good. If you're mining and you don't see your address then please post here and I'll see what I can do.

Important Note: GUIMiner is working for me, but there have been problems reported using GUIMiner, so please be sure to test before mining too long.

Looks like you are running p2pool as well. Can you detail what you did to make GUIMiner work?

To be honest: I don't know. I just set up Ubuntu 12.04 on EC2, cloned your github and openend ports. I connected from 2 different computers to test and my GUIMiner workers immediately showed up in the list. So I guess it's port related??

E2 won't that get expensive ?

I really need to brush up on AWS.

EC2 is great to put a thing quickly. It might get expensive if you have to scale, but at the moment I'm just fiddling around for fun.

You have shares but you can't connect? Which miner are you using?

Even so... last time I checked running a server 24/7 for a month would cost at least $50. Be sure to check your statement and pricing before you get an unpleasant surprise next month.

I don't know how you could get shares without being connected first, but I'll have a look. What's your payout address?

I see, settings look good. I don't know what's up but sorry that it's not working. Bummer. I'll have a look again and will report back.

I think it's still not working. At your hashrate we would see an immediate spike of shares.

Small update: it seems GUIMiner is working for some people – and not working for others (sorry strunberg, I did not find any solution for you yet).

Please just check if you see your payout address in the list. It should be there right after your first accepted share.
If it is not, then something is not working.

EDIT: I'ts at 1.12GH/s now, stats seem to be a bit delayed.

How often do the payouts happen?

Payout should happen after a found block – which did not happen yet. Please note that I just set this up today, so I can't exactly tell you how it will work out until we find the first block.

If we would find a block right now, I'd say that would be 15 BTE.
I'm sorry that it did not work out for you, I'm still trying to figure out what's the problem here.

What miner are you using?

I am using the OpenCL portion of GUIminer. I have two different miners because I have two cards for a combined total of about 750 Mhash/s

I have about 700 shares so far with 0 stales.

I think that if byte coin continued in it's rate of gaining hash power, it might exceed bit coin's hashing power in a year or so.
Or at  the least exceed lite coin's where be begin to choose byte coin over lite coin.

I'm sorry to tell you that I still see people having problems using GUIMiner with the pool.
If you're mining for the pool you should see your address in the list of payout addresses as soon as you have 1 accepted share. If you don't see your address then something's wrong.
It's really strange because I know that some people (including myself) are able to use GUIminer and others can't – I'm still investigating.

Yeah, I thought too... GUIMiner is working for me – actually, I set up this pool because I wanted it to work with GUIMiner so I could use it myself.
But obviously there's something I don't understand yet, but I'll try to figure that out. Sorry for the inconvenience.

You're gettin freshly minted coins. Generated coins have to get included in 120 blocks ("mature") before they can be spent.

I'm aware of the problem. I myself connect without problems with GUIMiner, but I know of others who can't connect properly.
I'm sorry but I currently have no solution for this, but I'm still trying to get a workaround.

Other BTE Pools with a 'stratum'  option/port seem to work fine with GUIMiner, might want to look into that.

Oh that's bad, you definitely should be on the list after a couple of shares or it might not work for your miner.

Why is the hashrate on the mainpage doesn't shown any more?

It seemed to be inaccurate lately, but I activated it again.

UPDATE: If you can help me figure out what's going wrong, I can start mining again. Right now I'm supplying about 1/10th of the pool hash.

so i pointed my least powerful card here to see how things would go (260mh/s) but man it takes a while to find a block. if i'm pushing that much (not a lot) and the whole pool is only 800-900mh/s i guess everyone else is cpu mining?

Yeah, I've got a bunch of little guys mining at my pool as well, Bytecoin is still in the domain of CPU mining it seems. Maria 2.0 wins again!

i was going to setup solo mining but not sure if that'd be worth it either. I was just looking to make a couple coins in a new currency and see how things go.

Unless you've got a mining farm, solo mining bytecoins isn't the way to go right now. Try mining in a pool!

yea i know. i have 2 rigs (7 cards) setup but mining LTC right now. I'm part of this pool with my little 6850 just takes forever.

I have another 700Mh/s on the way today to run in addition to my 6970.
