The salary is hardly the biggest cost of the position.  The security detail, the best accommodations when travelling and private transportation far exceeds $400,000 a year.

Absolutely! Housing, clothing, food, etc. are paid for as well! I'd probably volunteer to be president as well, it's really all about serving the American people.

That is the difference between him and Hillary. For Trump, he is in politics because he want to serve his nation. He want to make America great again. He is ready to spend his own hard-earned money to achieve those objectives. On the other hand, for Hitlery, politics is just a money-making tool, to enrich her family and friends.

maybe he just something more in his mind. Trump is a brilliant business man so he really knows what he was doing. and maybe his plan was to give his salary to those who need it the most since he was already rich! I think he is the only president to do that :)

I hope this becomes a trend amongst future presidents. They are corrupt anyway so no point in paying them ;).

I think Ron Paul said he would do the same thing when he ran for president.

Air Force 1 is a staple for the president, I highly doubt it.
On another note, it's despicable that Obama campaigned all around the country for Hillary with my tax dollars going towards the jet fuel. There needs to be legislation passed so that doesn't happen in the future.

It would be nice of that money went into funding public schools or social help.

Well he doesn't really need it, but he could have taken it only to donate to the varios organisations every month, that could help some people a lot.

If President Trump is not receiving his salary, then it is a welcome news since that money can be channel to any important matter. It is a savings to American People for America. It is a good gesture from the President,I commend him.

Good move on his side. At least he shows that he is not a greedy person. One might think that it's nothing compared to what he has in his possession. But I have known people which couldn't make themselves buy a chocolate for a kid or give a stranger small cash for buying a bottle of beer although they were millionaires. So maybe he is not as bad as we thought. )

Nah! Maybe if he told that he will give HALF of his persistent salary. Maybe for 1 year is okay but if within his whole term I think its not gonna happen. Let's wait after a year or 2 years to prove what he have been spoken in public.

well I don't think he actually has a need for it anyway. he's way wealthier than most politicians and I think he can do without the presidential salary. Although I'm not really sure if he plans to just donate that to charity or other institutions or whatever he's going to do with it. We'll just have to wait and hope for the best with a trump presidency

Why would he salary do I need? Using its ability of the President, he will increase dohol their businesses several times.

He is worth several hundreds of millions of USD. So the $400,000 salary will not make a difference for him. But still, I appreciate this step taken by Donald Trump. People who hold powerful governmental positions should not be money-minded.

This is pretty huge salary per year and if his not going to accept it maybe his going to donate it into charity or maybe his going to corrupt president and he will get more money if his going to corrupt his country and not going to better again sad for america but i have trust on trump :)

Such a PR campaign may impress uneducated people. People who know how to think will ask the question what a fool refuses the money. Than it compensates them to yourself.

President-elect Donald Trump does not need the $400,000 per year salary, and it is a smart move for him to not take it, saving money for the country. He would be the first U.S. President to not take the full salary, and it isn't surprising, considering that Trump is worth billions of dollars, and is richer than all 44 presidents before him combined. Trump has also vowed to not take any vacations, and work his hardest to Make America Great Again! We shall see if he will deliver on his promises.

refusing the money is a gesture of goodwill.
if trump was the fool the media makes him out to be, he would have demanded a pay incress. that would be more inline with the made up person the media makes him out to be( an asshole ).

to accept the money and then promising to "give it away" to some worthy organization or whatever, goes against his principles.

the general idea is that government does way to much of this already, they have so much power, that everyone is lining up to suck the government's dick for favors, governments like getting there dick sucked so much they are willing to sign bad deals.

not taking a salary necessarily means the gov. is going to need to borrow less money in order for it to function, which in and of itself is plenty.

That's very good for the American citizens. I think that will achieve to make America great again because his ideas and his recommendations can change America once and for all. It might be difficult in the beginning but after many sacrifices he will achieve his goals.

This is important for us to see how Mr. Trump looks at the matters.

He was always like this. He is a businessman. He financed his campaign by his own. Not by shady organisations, pharmacy companies, drug lords...

He will definitely carry USA to the next level and make it great again. (unless he gets murdered by someone hired by Soros.)

I say everything is just politics trying to play himself back to the mind of people the salary is actually not the issue even though we all know that this money is just being kept there for the years lf their tenure without even having to touch a dime of it so if he wants to impress me, let him cut his allowances to 1$ then I know he is serious.
