From the trollbox! Not the most reliable source. Let's just wait and see

Seriously?
Do you really need to make a thread about one sentence in the trollbox?

The BTC-E trollbox is about as reliable as a pair of clown shoes in a minefield.

It wasn't just trollbox, it was btc-e support saying that vircurex was hacked.  So maybe a bit more reliable.  Then 1 min later btc-e went down.

Hopefully just DDOS on both...

Quite a few Litecoin pools not responding either. I smell a rat...

Update: https://twitter.com/@Vircurex
So... hopefully not a hack.

There has been no formal news of any vircurex hack, quite the contrary, some recent downtimes have been UI updates etc. from the vircurex team themselves.  Is btc-e rightfully starting to fear and fud vircurex now that vircurex is stepping their game up and growing market share hand over fist?....  It's the btc-e trollbox for a reason....

I just trusted my wallet to Vircurex yesterday to buy some DVC. Knowing my luck, they probably did get hacked.  :'(

Good thing I only put in what I could afford to lose.

My bet is on DDOS...they've been happening frequently....We were all pimply faced little brats at one time  ;)

DDOS attacks, while disruptive and irritating, are nothing of any grave concern. Probably not a server in the world that hasn't been hit by DDOS at one time or another. No sense in hitting the panic button just yet.

Things like this are for the better of the entire currency system really, it helps make networks more secure.

Of course, I agree that all the effort would be much better spent on disrupting the threats to our world. But then, who knows for certain what the real threats are?

Vircurex is back up with the following disturbing message:

Quote
The system is not available, we are aware of the issue and are working on it

I hope it's not the case of "The coins are not available(not anymore)".

Glad I got most of my coins out just the other day :P  Hopefully what I left behind is still there.

Their server was overloaded due to traffic spike over the last two days, they are switching to a dedicated server as we speak. This is from their twitter account and the official thread.

The coins are fine. Virucex has tweeted saying the wallets are safe, they haven't been hacked, and they hope to be back up by Monday.

The crypto currency world seems to be under attack.

A couple of days ago, Canadian Bitcoins had their new bank acct closed for no apparent reason.

Could this be related to the exchange and pool shut downs ?

Pretty surprising that they weren't already on a dedicated server...

Isn't Vircurex the one happily chugging away with a years-old RoR vulnerability? Or is that someone else.. maybe Bitfinex. I may be getting them mixed up.

Official announcement from Vircurex is that it will be back up today at 14:00 GMT Sunday 7th April. They are making some changes and switching to the dedi server to handle the new traffic load  :)

So, has everyone been screwed by this hack attack? Or is it just an unfortunate few?..

Could everybody please stop handing out fake Vircurex twitter accounts?  The last time Vircurex had an issue, this happened, and kumala confirmed that wasn't a Vircurex twitter account.

The only source of info I know on Vircurex that is genuine is kumala's postings here on bitcointalk.
