BB&T, Wells Fargo hit with cyber attacks again (http://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2013/04/05/bbt-wells-fargo-hit-with-cyber.html)

Winston-Salem-based BB&T Corp. and Wells Fargo & Co. each reported possible cyber attacks on Thursday, the Charlotte Observer reports, indicating that the rash of recent assaults on big-bank websites is not letting up.

BB&T (NYSE: BBT) said Thursday that its site has been attacked twice in the past week, according to the report. The attacks are of the now-familiar "denial-of-service" variety that overwhelms a website with high traffic volume, rendering it inaccessible.

Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC), which bases its East Coast operations in Charlotte, also was hit Thursday for the second time in about a week.

The banks notified their customers of the problems via Facebook.

mystified why it keeps going up so they're giving it a try against their own infrastructure in case they're onto something and that goes up too.

That's probably not far from the truth. Banks are getting really good at setting their hair on fire, trying to put it out with a hammer and then telling the world that it's all under control. The sad part is the number of people that actually believe them.

I think this is an attack from an ideological background - maybe from the middle east.

I am aware of DDoS attacks having effected a lot of networks this week.  An ISP I deal with has had an issue which is forcing their entire network to be running at peak, which seems to suggest that we are talking about botnets which have yet to be picked up by the anti virus packages.

I guess it doesn't help that a lot of bored kids are still on Easter holidays, but that might just be the UK.

Anyway - lets see what next week brings!
