We all made mistakes in bitcoin, either trading, investing, coding.

Other than not buying bitcoin at 0.01$ per coin when it started, what is your biggest mistake you did ?

 

Disregarding Bitcoin when I first heard about it. To my defense, it's wasn't nicely presented to me, unfortunately :D

how much was BTC worth the first time you acquired it ?

The only losses I've ever made are due to exchanges going kaput because someone hacked them/stole their money. I was lucky I didn't have any coins on Mtgox, but I did have coins on Mintpal and Cryptsy.

Sadly exchange rate risk is the biggest risk in bitcoin space.

i made many mistakes like the worst mistake was investing my money into gambling and lossing all of it in 24hours that is really hard ti handle but it take some time to understand the reality anyway everyone has done this mistake mostly

The worst mistake wasn't with bitcoin directly itself.
But with a person that I sent to first.
They did not deliver what they promised they would send to me for sending them bitcoins which can not be reversed.

I was so ashamed of myself I even sold my 4 stars bitcointalk account... Slowly getting back in with what I've learnt in the past years.

I was scamed by cloudminr.io as well, but at least I got my ROI + 50%  ( around 1,500 USD invested initially ) and it was because I sold my account to someone else that got burnt afterwhile, like many others that were late investors.

So now I'm holding btc, nxt and Ardr, for longterm, mainly Ardr.

Not using 2fa and getting robbed!

for me my biggest mistake was when i sent bitcoins as a payment for something i purchased from a friend and cost 0.005.. i accidentally alter or changed one letter of his btc address.. the last letter. so there, i lost my 0.005  and have to pay the same amount to my friend.. lesson learned, BE CAREFUL!

my biggest mistake? i think it was, when i first heard about bitcoins and cryptoworld, several years ago, i didnot pay attention on it, i thought, it wasnot serious thing and after 1 or 2 years later, i understand what was going and joined to this wonderful "world" :)

From which website ?

1: investing in the DAO and than get screwed.
2: Keeping my bitcoins at BitFinex and losing them all after the hoax.
3: Buying bitcoin back again at the top of 2016 = approx. 750 dollar a piece.
4: After buying btc I found out my pc was infected by a bitcoinstealer.exe and my bitcoins are stolen again.
5: I threw my pc out of the window and bought a new pc, the end..

My biggest mistake was ... not buying bitcoin when I have seen for the first time a news on a local magazine about the currency :( (around 2011)
what a big mistake :( really hard to accept ... but life must go on also without this good investment in a proper time :)

I and my cousin sold a coin that was worth nothing (we had a lot of it, like 1.5-2 btc each), 1 day later it got pumped 1000% and held steady for a good while :)) (could it have been leafcoin?)

Or when I mined about 80k blackcoin at launch, sold them at $0.05, bought back 10k at $0.15 then sold them at $0.5.

All this was back in early 2014


EDIT: Oh yeah, I mined BTC 2009 or 2010, had a bunch of them (around 100). My other cousin told me it was illegal and that I'd get in big trouble cuz of those BTC. I bought games for them. I still have 10 BTC laying around on a HDD which is ruined.

Do not post any link that contains a virus, do not even click on links which u do not trust. Malicous sites are able to put stuff on your computer without u even knowing, believe me I experienced that by just clicking a link from here...

I'm just getting started, so I still have yet to make any sort of mistake. I'm hoping that I never do, but chances are I'm going to end up screwing myself over one way or another.

Would it be worth it to avoid investments for the first while and watch to see which ones turn out to be scams, fraud or whatever?

You wont learn by just watching, you gotta experience it.
Invest in stuff but go in small, if you think you can afford losing $5 in a coin that seems interesting and might get you $150 reward - do it. But don't invest $100 until you know your stuff!

I don't ever consider as a mistake if a person isn't able to bought bitcoins at any cheap rates it was passed since after all we didn't know what will be the price of it later. I considered that as a regret instead and to cope up with that regrets we have to act the moment we think the price is right to buy coins and "face all the possible risks" after putting money on this crypto.

Majority of bitcoin mistakes activity are those things that we already know what will be the possible output, at least, e.g investing on a ponzi or cloudmining scheme, putting money on web wallets, exchange site activities etc. Some mistakes are also human errors, like sending to a wrong wallet address, not enhancing the security of the coins, lost backup etc.

Don't really remember... Around 400$ maybe if I'm not mistaken :) A bit late. Bought in very low quantities.

The only mistake I made was when I invested some of my bitcoin in a doubler. I was quite depressed and stressed having lost my money it was like I made an investment today and they went away with my money the very next day. It was my hardly earned money. But they taught me a lesson and now I don't trust such scammers.

My biggest mistake with bitcoin is that I wasted so much time gathering dust and not paying closer attention to the things that mattered most, However, there are no regrets, I have settled to see all that as necessary learning period. Other than that, the days I saw the exchanges as reliable entities to entrust my coins in their hands were a big mistake, I know better now and so do many bitcoiners.

I may think if this can't get explain, every time I was making my fault and all of the faults it worst.
But bitfinex and DAO was becoming the worst one ever.

Biggest mistake for me was wasting one month on Bitcoin Faucets and PTC sites thinking I was getting rich using them. Turned out I was completely dumb and didn't realize that I was getting pieces of pennies!

I call it a lesson well learned.

Not investing more in altcoins that would get pumped 1000%-5000% in a day or less.

Right now I have a very small amount of Bitcoin, something like a few dollars worth, but I'll see if I'm able to get a leg up on that from a signature campaign or something from on here.

My biggest mistake is when I withdrawn and encash my bitcoin. The currency exchange is high that time unlike now. The exchange was even highe nowadays. Thats the most stupid move I had. Another one is that, When I started to gamble. Most of the time, I win but since greed tooks place. I lost more of the rounds in betting. I already learned my lesson and this will make me more wise on how to take care of my bitcoin.

Investing all my hard earned coins into the bitcoin economy, invested in a bunch of bitcoin startups, all end up to be scams, lost a shit load of money.

If you want to make money with bitcoin just stay away from all these "bitcoin businesses".

Man I couldn't disagree more.  Letting the first love of my life get away haunted me for years and years.

My biggest mistake in bitcoin is that when I first know it (in 2011 or 2012 I think) I did not beleive it and thought that it was a form of scam. I beleive in bitcoin when I research only this year. My other mistake is when I earn bitcoin through captcha typing. It really waste my time like I do captcha typing for 10-14 hours just to earn but the my earning in a week is just like 2 dollars. :(

Well the teachers there were very highly qualified .yes too much qualified .to take their mind into ur mind is tough .well i could not work hard so much because i think i needed that motivation to earn it .well we make mistakes and we make it right .hope i do it right in the near future .kudoos :)

Actually I think I didn't make big mistakes, I'm learning a lot from bitcointalk and I take my security and privacy very seriously.

On his very bad th stupid mistake in my life I recognized very hard and I do not think that I can talk about it everywhere. But I can say that it refers to another person's life and the pain of his relatives.

Probably my only mistake is that I'm a little weak at heart. I can not insist in those cases when it is necessary. From this always affects the other, and even my position in society could be different.

Probably the worst thing was that it is when listening to friends Council pays bitcoin at a cheap price because it happened and we've got a temporary collapse. Now we can calculate the huge losses.

Sometimes it is difficult to understand the thoughts of people and what they really want to know, but I want to say that I really made a mistake in life, but it seems to me that if it did many years ago, I would not have it that I have right now. Therefore, it is very difficult to answer such questions.

The big mistake was to be led by the bank and take a lot of credit. It seems that this trick has got a lot of people.

Not buying Bitcoins last year when the price was close to $300. It was a constant downfall and I didn't want to buy knowing the price is lower each month. We'll never see such lows.

when enthereum was released, i know that ethercoin and ethereum are 2 different coins but anyway, i ended sending 120 eth to an ethercoin wallet from an exchange. i dont know how in the first place it has sended without warning. Now i'm much more careful about my clipboard.

When It's not all about bitcoin. Biggest mistake in life is whe. Spending an extravagant amount of money on something extremely unnecessary. When I undergo financial literacy. I felt a big loss the time i spend too much money for unnecessary things. I learn how to save mucn and take advantage of time while still young. Now, I invest my money through stocks and hold it for long term investment. I also enrolled my self with Life insurance with investment. This is a good move for the future. Again, its never too late, we can still control the outcome.

The biggest mistake I made in bitcoins is not starting to earn it right away. Now bitcoins are harder to earn compared from the past which is frustrating. I wished I learned about bitcoins sooner.

You will be surprised how many admins are neglecting this and nevr backup anything. They have amazing faith that their machines will be forever stable.
I guess I fell into that category as well, as I failed to backup my own files and and I lost everything.

Well i think the biggest mistake i had was ignoring bitcoin since I was high school. The truth is I heard it from a girl in a computer shop 4 years ago and from what I can remember is she is solving some additions i think it is captcha and get free bitcoins. I can also remember how many accounts she has back then. If i just asked her about it maybe i have a good number of bitcoins now.

When I was younger I made a couple - I trusted people who claimed to have good intentions, when they did not.
I hired other people to build a product for me and they were rubbish. So I learned not to trust so easily and to hedge against risk when working withh people, and I learned how to build products (software) from start to finish myself.

Well, my biggest and greatest mistake was made during my university days, and it's involving myself in school politics, been a departmental president, because that was a major set back for me, took me back with two years. But thanks to God. I overcame. So I wouldn't involve myself in politics anymore. It's not a good game at all, though my opinion, others may disagree. Mistakes happen so we can learn and correct our ways. It was a hard lesson learned well.

I think the biggest mistake I did is I put all of my savings in gambling and make a bet through all of that.
I really hope that I can have a better chance of not losing with a huge funds. But, I'm wrong. Funding in gambling doesn't guarantee as sure win. Better to fund small amount so less risk.
