Title: vircurex.com - unofficial
Post by: xchrix on April 06, 2013, 02:00:06 PM
as the official vircurex is closed by kumala (which is good) i thought about getting a new thread where the users of vircurex can discuss. lets talk about the news as kumala posted:

Quote
Heads up on some changes coming:

Permanent decisions:
- Discontinuation of stop order functionality
- Solidcoin trading will not be resumed. We will close down Solidcoin support by latest 14th of April. Please withdraw your coins.
- Ixcoin trading will not be resumed. We will close down Ixcoin support by latest 14th of April. Please withdraw your coins.

Temporary restrictions:
- Trading fee reduced to 0.1% until end of April.
- API calls have been disabled for the time being.
- Charts currently only show the last 100 trades. We will reactivate the older hisotry charts after the hardware upgrade is completed.

its very sad that solidcoin and ixcoin trading is not continued. there is nothing special about solidcoin and ixcoin but this was the only exchange which supported those two currencies. so something is lost in the crypto world... what do you think?

I think it's a crock of bull.

He could have brought that server up again easily to allow people access to their wallets.

We're losing money now, especially in LTC positions that we can't transfer and trade elsewhere.

I'm a web developer and i've spun up dedicated servers in less than half a day. You can get a big ass VPS server spun up in less than an hour.

I think it's an issue with his hosting provider and out of his hands, but yes I want my crypto that's in there to play with!

Hosting company wouldn't shut down the server because of traffic. If the server can't handle the load they would 'recommend' an upgrade.

He could easily sign up with Rackspace and spin up a large VPS (they charge by the minute), shut it down once he's got a dedi server setup.
Would take less than 2 hours to build the server and transfer application and database, then switch DNS.

i think its not that easy with all the coin daemons to setup and all the security he hopefully has built in. vircurex was small one week ago and i think it wasnt prepared for the new huge userbase so be patient and give them some time.

Of course Kumula might want to stay anonymous, thus traditional hosting options are not available to him. Perhaps he is even an American citizen, in which case, running an exchange would be highly illegal for him as I doubt he's registered with FinCen. :-)

He might be even running the exchange as a 'side project' on someone else's machine (maybe he works in a datacenter and until this recent onslaught of interest and can no longer hide it).

Lots of reason why upgrading might be harder then snapping his fingers twice. If he comes back online with all the coins intact, I will be more then happy.

No a hosting company will definitely kick you off if they start getting hammered by DDOS. There's no reason he can't take the backups and put the site up instantly somewhere else though, or torrify the login at least temporarily until their new host is ready.

they should use koddos.com - I heard it's a good hosting for DDOS protection. Plan to get a VPS from Koddos soon.

the dos'ing going on right now is hitting exchanges with 80Gbps to 300Gbps+ koddos won't cover that. Nobody does unless you buy wholesale backbone bandwidth from a Tier 1. would cost $0.00 to torrify the site though

Do you guys have local wallets for all the alt coins? I have local wallets for bitcoin and litecoin, but not for the other coins. That's why I left them in my vircurex account (hope they're still there).
A multi-coin wallet would be great – is there any?

unfortunately not. i have local wallets for bitcoin, litecoin, ppcoin and freicoin. but not for DVC and TRC. DVC is very complicated to setup...

yes multicoin would be great. but technicaly i think this is hard todo. the best thing would be electum project for each coin and someone who is running a server for you.
