But that is still slower than the RX 480. If you want the density of the mining rig, it is better to use 480. But that is still slower than the RX 480. If you want the density of the mining rig, it is better to use 480. Almost the same speed but much cheaper. It doesn't make sense buying an 480 or buying 8gb instead of 4. Title: Re: BEST PARTs FOR GPU MINING RIG FROM DECEMBER 2016 Post by: Subw on November 27, 2016, 09:08:02 PM 8Gb would likely have better resale value in 2-3 years but if you don't care then yes go for 4Gb
Title: Re: BEST PARTs FOR GPU MINING RIG FROM DECEMBER 2016 Post by: Amph on November 28, 2016, 11:21:11 AM at this point i would wait for vega from amd, big chip amd 580 and fury pro, they will have better hash, due to better bandwidth and bus speed, and lower consumption
it's due this december or early 2017 Title: Re: BEST PARTs FOR GPU MINING RIG FROM DECEMBER 2016 Post by: eckmar on November 28, 2016, 02:24:10 PM at this point i would wait for vega from amd, big chip amd 580 and fury pro, they will have better hash, due to better bandwidth and bus speed, and lower consumption it's due this december or early 2017 That could also mean price drop in current RX 4xx cards ;D Currently without a doubt 470 is overall best card for mining. Price difference between 470 and it's only competitor in mining 480 is not worth extra performance you get with 480 Title: Re: BEST PARTs FOR GPU MINING RIG FROM DECEMBER 2016 Post by: bittawm on November 29, 2016, 03:47:09 AM best mobo, cpu, hhd?
Title: Re: BEST PARTs FOR GPU MINING RIG FROM DECEMBER 2016 Post by: eckmar on November 29, 2016, 05:15:10 AM best mobo, cpu, hhd? I'm still using AsRcok H81 pro btc. It's a bit older board but still great in my opinion. There are some some new intel board but i'm not informed about their quality. For CPU gor for g1820 or g 1840 whatever you can find. Hdd just buy cheapest used one it will be fine Title: Re: BEST PARTs FOR GPU MINING RIG FROM DECEMBER 2016 Post by: toptek on November 29, 2016, 05:17:34 AM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131708
power color 480 for 179 these are not cheap cards, i own the one fan one i got last week for 189, don't trust reviews, so i have found out in the past. mode the bios your set from here https://anorak.tech/ I don't post my other stuff because it was either old parts i all ready had that would cost to much to buy now or i got deals you can't get right now or may never again and i don't mine for ROI so what I have won't help in that department. It doesn't make sense buying an 480 or buying 8gb instead of 4. 8GB only makes sense for mining if it is the faster RAM vs. 4GB - a lot of 4GB cards has 1750Mhs ram where 8GB usually has 2000 Mhs. Y'all don't want my builds though as they're not "mining specific optimised". For hard drives, go HGST or a good SSD - HGST has had a ton better reliability overall in recent years LONGterm vs WD or Seagate. Sleeve bearing stuff doesn't last. There's a REASON the only HD 7750 card I have left from my Litecoin GPU mining days that has it's original fan is a Sapphire (though it is the OLDEST of the whole collection) - all of the others had sleeve bearing fans that DIED in the first year or less, the Sapphire has a ball bearing fan and 3+ years after I bought it it's STILL running. To be fair, all but one of the other CARDS are still running - with a motly assortment of left-over 60mm ball bearing fans left over from outdated CPU coolers from machines I've retired twist-tied to the heatsinks....
