I'd recommend you the yobit website, their aupport ia a little bad but they have a ton of alt-coins and adding new one as soon as they are published/announced. There may be some other webaited but I know about this one that has a vast variety of alt-coins.

I would recommend Poloniex, it's quite easy to use. My second choice would be Bittrex

If you are new definitely stay away from YoBit. Yes they do have a lot of coins (most of all i think) but most of that coins are scamcoins and if you are just starting and can't differentiate them from good alts to invest it's just bad idea overall. Most trusted (and largest) exchange to date is Poloniex so just go with them.

Stay away from yobit. Too many shitcoins there, too much stuff you don't need and their site design is cancer.

Poloniex and Bittrex are fine.

There are things like c-cex, bleutrade, southexchange and whatnot, but I would only register there if you wanted to get a specific altcoin that you'll only get there.

Agreed. Those two are exactly the best right now.

You might want to take a look at this too:

Yobit is good for small/ new coins, some are pumped and have huge upswings so you can make a huge profit, but be careful because pumps get dumped fast.
Poloniex is one of the bigger sites. Good design and lots of active coins.

Those are the two I have used the most, and have never had a problem with either.

i chose yobit as the main selection because yobit has many altcoin , there is also a dice game.
second chose bittrex, and
third is poloniex cause poloniex have fewer altcoin but this favored exchanger for traders

Bittrex and poloniex are the only good ones.

There are a bunch of shitty ones that I actually do use a bit. c-cex, yobit, cryptopia, bleutrade, novaexchange, expoex.

More important than having a site to trade on is knowing how to trade. Check out http://therationalinvestor.co to get some good advice and not dumped on!

@tigershark. Listen to this advice. All the other suggestions are ok but if you want to trade in the best altcoin exchange it will be with Poloniex. I also suggest trading at Kraken for your second site, then Bittrex as your third site.

Be aware that the best site right now will not be the best after a while. The cryptosphere is very dynamic and things happen so fast.

Yobits pumps are mostly due to bots pumping long dead shitcoins. Their whole raison d'etre is to bait inexperienced traders who think they can make huge profits by getting in. Even if you are careful, this may work out a few times, but eventually, the house always wins.

Sho nuff.  Poloniex is what I'd call more reputable and probably easier to use,  but Yobit ain't no slouch exchange neither.   Once you git used to both, they is both dang easy to use.  My nogga above was right, though.   Yobit's customer service is about as good as a Mexican drug cartel's dumbest dope dealer.

If you chose a certain site, their interface is the first one you will look into. You are confused because you are a first timer in that site and you will have a same impression to the other site as well.

Trusted might not be the right term here since all exchanges including those big ones are prone of becoming a fraud someday. I will not recommend anythign but rather I will told you what exchanges Im currently playing in.

Poloniex - Since all coins listed here are those who have an active volumes. They are delisting coins once low volume was established in their given period of time. Their support is responsive too.

Cryptopia - Since some alts I played were not present in Poloniex, I choose this site as an alternative to play with. Also established a good trading volumes since their inception so I give them a try.

firstly, i want you to look in your account balance, how much you have fund? if its small until middle fund like 0.01 btc - 0.05 btc, then i will suggest to go with poloniex or bittrex because its worth to make trading in that two sites. but if you only have 0.001 btc - 0.009 btc, then i will suggest you to go with yobit, its have many small price altcoins you can trade. so the choice is up to you.

Poloniex and Bittrex would be my suggestions, Bittrex is a bit more straight forward and great for getting used to trading altcoins, a nice user interface on the web, their mobile site is a bit annoying but they do have a nice variety of altcoins.

Yobit is okay I suppose and they do add almost all coins after they launch which can be a good things sometimes but it is a bit messy.

Poloniex and Bittrex are the "must-have". They are big, they have very good volumes, the chance to find scam or dying coins there is small.
For variation, for "smaller" coins that didn't get to the bigger exchanges, Cryptopia and C-Cex are also pretty fine (just the volumes are usually boring).

I suggest you Bittrex for beginning, and when you have enough balls Poloniex :D

Lol. Bittrex is not for beginner. It is just like polo. They have nearly equal of trading volume of alt coin. In fact, bittrex is a trusted site. I suggest ccex if you want a user friendly exchange. Is easy to unferstand and use. Thanks

I started at Yobit since they have almost all various coins at exchange even those low volumes and considered as dead. And their free coins options really hooked me up.

But while Im progressing in the world of altcoin trading I realized that this exchange is really not recommended in terms of serious trading so months later I switched to CCEX and Poloniex which already build a good name now in the world of altcoin exchanges.

the answer is Topia

You can start trading based markets Doge Uno LTC and more.
Excellent way to practice trading in these micro markets, you won't make money but you also wont loose money.

Trading BTC based markets for a n00b could be costly $$$

Liquidity is a factor to consider when choosing which exchange to trade your altcoins. You don't want to face a situation where you can't sell your coins at a good price. Poloniex and bittrex are the best place to trade as both have good volume. The rest of the exchanges are not really worth it unless you are trading with a small amount of BTC.

Exactly that.
people are always amused with those 1000% pump in yobit but they are always fake.
0 volume pump made by bots trading with itself.

you buy the coin, you think you're rich but you cant sell the coins because of the zero liquidity.

Yobit is good like in my signature but honestly even i am a signature member they have worst support.. unlike other trading exchange.. if you are care for support you go to poloniex never had any issue in that trading site.. the other site are bittrex and cryptopia those i already tested it and they are still active as of now i have some altcoin in those site because i spread my own altcoin to trade..

Don't trust cryptsy that was an old exchange site was hack before so better to stay away from that site..

Only Poloniex!

"only" poloniex is risky. The past should have told us, that it is never good, when an exchange gets too big and holds too many coins. See MtGox, see cryptsy. The problem is, until something happens, it's best to be on these exchanges for the reasons mentioned: Best liquidity, generally good service, not riddled with shitcoins and fake pumps, stuff like that.

Still I'm keep on using it from the start because I find it quite good.

that only makes cryptopia a good place for newbies to start trading while risking so small amounts of bitcoin. and it makes it a learning place but not really much of a real big players exchange service.

however I like the idea of being able to trade altcoins with altcoins too, in other words being able to trade some random altcoin with XMR or LTC directly and have these two as your base currency. but sadly it is not much popular as the volumes show.

It had included on the worst exchange site, too many dead coins won't become a good place for the small trader. I may think if bittrex was being better placed than it. Even for a small trader it can give more guarantee for newbies.

Cryptopia is a good place for all type/level of traders including Newbies and the volume is increasing. The trading pairs are cool, you can usually find bargains on their alt coin markets if you know where & when to look. Plus, you get rewards for trading, chatting & mining. Rewards come in BTC, XMR, LTC, UNO DOT and others.

It's a great start and only getting better with added features like their MINESHAFT where people can mine with 0% fees. Here: https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Mineshaft

One of my favorite aspects of Cryptopia are their TERM DEPOSITS. You can deposit the site's currency, DOTcoin, into a fixed return rate on your deposits. It's pretty cool. Check it out here: https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/TermDeposit

Cryptopia's focus is on a better user experience for crypto-currencies.
In order to make cryptocurrencies more accessible to everyone they provide mining pools, marketplace, exchange services and a support framework for each coin listed.

To start trading altcoins, I would recommend Poloniex, which is currently the most trusted one.

Cryptopia should be good enough if you want a good variety of coins, although it is a bit less trusted than Poloniex.

I think you can try Poloniex first. And then if you want to trade more, you can also trade on other exchanges like Cryptopia. No need to put all your money in one exchange.

Yobit, bittrex and poloniex are the only ones you need.

Best trading site platforms are already being mentioned by most members who have posted here and my best choice is Poloniex since they have the largest volume on each coin you want to trade.Bittrex is also good and c-cex which i have already tried to trade on this sites and i could say its really okay for me specially the support features.

Thanks

I think it doesn't matter what exchange you're gonna use it, as long as the trading exchange site stand for a years it can be consider as a reputable trading platform. Though Poloniex and bittrex are both have strict rules and regulations to all their player or participants to their site.

Never trade large amounts for starters, never leave/store/hold coins in any site only if it's poswallet which was created for staking.
There are a few penny exchanges sites that are good for small trades such as yobit, c-cex, liqui, nova, shapeshift and there are a few which are good for whales and large amounts such as poloniex, bitfinex, kraken, and others are in the middle.
You should know that in trading for earning profits purposes there is a high risk of losing funds. but if you want to just sell what you mining and earning those which I mentioned could be considered legit so far.

my option will become poloniex, bittrex, yobit, cryptopia, because i see now that four market is growing especially for poloniex and bittrex, they are the big market right now and you can start trading with that site. for two last sites, its because this two sites have small amount of coins that you can buy.

If you want to get big profit. Just trade altcoins on c-cex, yobit or bittrex exchanges.
Because there are many pumps and dumps from altcoins so you can have many chances to win.

They are all risky. Bittrex seems to be fading away though.

Ignoring C-cex, Yobit and bitrex more preferably. You can see from his 24 hours volume. and C-cex is so lower.

Can someone recommend a site to start trading altcoins? I'm looking for one that is trusted and has a good variety of coins.

I'd recommend you the yobit website, their aupport ia a little bad but they have a ton of alt-coins and adding new one as soon as they are published/announced. There may be some other webaited but I know about this one that has a vast variety of alt-coins.
Yobit is not good to use due to many users are complain at their poor service. It takes a lot of time to respond. Also its not good for newbies because its not user friendly. poliniex and cryptopia are good trading sites. You should try there.

When I traded, the only Altcoins sites I felt comfortable trading on was Poloniex.com & Kraken.com. Haven't traded for about 10 months now but if I was to begin again i'd only feel comfortable doing it on those two exchanges.

Poloniex is better.

This is true. As what I see yobit have too much coins that are probably just made so developer can make money. Poloniex is number one in altcoin trading and coins there looks legit.
