Title: Cheap FPGA
Post by: werewolf on April 08, 2013, 10:49:11 AM
Hi,

Obviously I am a noob so firstly...Hi

I am a psych student at Leeds Uni and just for fun have been looking into BTC and the alternatives too. I am also a motorcycle rider/enthusiast.

The main reason for this post, and I hope it is OK me putting it in here, is that I am after a cheap FPGA.
It doesn't need to have a high hash/s as I simply want to play around. My laptop when using CGminer gets about 15-20M/Hash/s so anything higher than 20m would be awesome.

I also have little money so the cheaper the better.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

you wont really find FPGA miners in the UK, they didnt really take off over here as they where built in either America or some in Europe iv been looking for months with no luck and if you do find some there over £100,

also be careful with the laptop bitcoin mining has claimed even expensive Alienware laptops due to over heating and stress

i Agree. If you are really interested, perhaps try your luck in LTC mining. they are resistant to GPU and ASIC hashrates and if you have the right equipment , if could really go your way.

I see. I tried mining with the laptop using litecoin and the minerd integrated software. Got a very poor hash rate get about 20k/hash/s on the GPU and about 15k/hash/s on the CPU.

I have a i5-3210m CPU with intel HD4000 graphics.

dont expect to get much out of any laptop unless you go out and buy high end gaming card your not going to achieve anything to significant
even the highest level Alienware laptops probably wont break 100MHs

laptops are great for things but when it comes to mining there as useful as paperweights

Yeah, that is why I was more interested in getting some kind of FPGA or rig for BTC to just play around with.

Well, will probably just leave it be then = /

I am a poor student so not like I will be going out to get a mining rig anytime soon.

Thanks for the advice anyways people = )

Much appreciated

if you keep an eye out every so often there is a gem out there so dont give up and when ASICs start to come out there will be a few FPGAs on the market

in ltc mining  20k/s hashrate is almost same as 20M/s  hashrate in bitcoin mining.  ltc's computation is more complex than btc

Cool, I wont give up straight away then = )

Thanks guys!
