Title: should I be worried?
Post by: grey2000 on December 05, 2016, 05:03:53 AM
I made my first purchase of bit from internet vendor. I gave an address from my electrum 2.7.12 wallet.
Question: Is that all I have to do? No other inputs? .....What other inputs?

It has been 2 days. The company says this amount of time might be required for new customers on the website.
But just to be sure on my end I ask here: Have I done all that needs doing? I have left my send (receive) address from electrum with the seller. My paysite account says "payment accepted by so-n-so" (but my balance has not changed yet)

Uh yea, I guess that it. Those questions. Am I being paranoid, or did I forget something?

in order to receive bitcoin you only have to give your bitcoin address which is starting with 1 or 3
but when you deposit fiat on vendors site to make a purchase they take some time to verify your identity through the documents you have submitted with them or sometimes wait for the charge-back period to pass and then let you withdraw bitcoin (because bitcoin transactions are non-reversible).

and that is only if the vendor was not scam!

on Electrum nothing you can changes them sending or not sending bitcoin to your address.
just make sure you have a back up of your Seed somewhere (preferably on paper) and set a password for your wallet.

i think your job is waiting for the amount you bought from the seller. and you can check with blockchain.info, in the top right, copy paste your wallet address and then press Enter in your keyboard. from there, you can see is there any new transaction coming from your wallet address or not. if its still empty, maybe you need to ask with your seller, when the seller send the amount of bitcoin.

okay, thank you.
I checked bitcoin.info and there is zero record of any transaction.

The emails I have from seller show "processing"

Waiting for payment---- If you have already completed the payment, please wait few hours, payment will be processed manually.
Processing-------       Your order will be processed soon.
Completed--------       Your order has been completed. Thank you!
On hold------               Your order on hold. Please contact us to resolve this problem.
Order canceled   ---------Your order is canceled. If you have any questions, please contact us.

I will give another 24 hours

I hope you have bought from a good reputable source like bitstamp, localbitcoin, bitpanda , websites of such caliber. If you have bought from some not so well known website, I hope you receive your coins but this time waiting more than 2 days worries me.

When you buy bitcoin next time , take a bit of time to read through the service discussion and service announcements boards in this forum. They can give you a general idea which website is trustworthy and which is not. I hope you receive your coins.

 "requested amount" mBTC

I left it blank, is that correct?

==========

thanks zend7.  I went with a site using paypal and 1% above market BEST-BTC.com

local bitcoins was high price and alot of work, plus I live in an area of US that makes it difficult...nearest chase bank is 100mls.
I tried LibertyX, but also nearest location  to me did not sell after all...
so I went with what I could find...please leave any feedback

I would be worried. The site looks like it could be a scam.

For one, the Number Figures on the homepage are obviously not real. The address on the contact page I doubt is theirs, and there is no phone number on the site.

It COULD be legitimate, but you're left wondering aren't you? With no way to find them if they run with the money?

Usually is a scam then. Anytime you give your money to someone you don't know, you can get scammed.

Yup, almost certainly a scam.

Their terms and conditions are likely ripped off from other site(s) and not even relevant to their activity. They refer to themselves as "BEST-BTC LTD" which seems to be a made up name (company search gives no results). Moreover their address is in the US, any company registered in the US would have "Inc" or "LLC" suffix, not "Ltd".

They don't have any presence on this forum or on social media, which is not required, but it's strange that any legit bitcoin related business wouldn't use this as free advertising.

OP - start a dispute on paypal and try to get your money back.

Have faith.

To me ( a very first timer) all the companies, dealers, ect... so far are confusing and often self contradictory.... it ALL smells fishy, to me. Companies like localbitcoin you advise, I think are the worst. I dunno

Its hard for me

Well... everyone starts somewhere. My advice - don't give up and keep pushing. It will be easier in the long term!

as i said you only need a bitcoin address. and that tab is giving you one of your bitcoin addresses from your wallet to receive bitcoin in. but it has some additional options based on BIP-21 that generates an special bitcoin URI that contains bitcoin address, a message, the requested amount and some more additional information and is used for "requesting payment"

I'll suggest you to wait. I remember reading that bigger payments require up to 5 businesses days or 4, so just wait it'll show up soon

I'm sorry but you are probably getting scammed, the website looks fishy, you may want to chargeback and buy from a more reputable company unless you want to risk it, I wouldn't.

You can try coinbase if you want somethin reputable, bitstamp, etc.

I guess the one where you bought your coins seems to be scam. If you purchased using paypal, charge back now and try to regain the money you used to buy bitcoin. I suggest you you try to buy at a more reputable site next time like coinbase to avoid scam in the future. Sites that is not very reputable is often a scam site, which will make you sad in the end.

charge back...is that viable option?
I think this guy required to gift money to family, so that's a problem.
Anyway, WE will have learned. I am not making this up.

Their FAQ is written in very bad English.  Contact PayPal and see if they can get you your money back asap.  Even if you were to get your coins in the end, the risk of waiting and being scammed is far too great, and this looks like a scam to me.

Socks45... I did not want to say anything about the company until I give them time. However the name is up there, and I will PM you.

(Yes others need to know if they are just taking money and NOT delivering....if so, I doubt I am their first "customer")

It is important to be careful with new sites. I also advice you to make some research about the services and sites before  you are going to use them.

Well, now I know there is nothing wrong with my wallet....I just boughtsome Bitcoin and sent to my electrum wallet in less than an hour.

BEST-BTC.com has not answered emails.

Should I start a thread with names and links to this scam?
