Title: Devcoin Post by: spilltime on April 09, 2013, 02:06:50 AM So on BTC-e someone PM'd me about Devcoin. I had heard of it before but I don't know the slightest thing about it. Does anyone know the story of this? Could it be successful? The DVC chart seemed to mirror the chart of PPC and LTC. Just looking for some useful information on whether this is a wise investment or not.

Devcoin is legit :) Title: Re: Devcoin Post by: grifferoo on June 10, 2013, 12:02:09 PM I am planning on getting in on the devtome action myself. I looked at some of the articles about psychology, science, and medicine... they're not really looking too hot. I would like to apply my expertise (neuroscience PhD student) towards fixing these up... and earning some money to pay some rent. Cheers.

Title: Re: Devcoin Post by: bitleif on June 10, 2013, 04:32:00 PM *yawn* yet another something-from-nothing scheme. Devcoins are worthless unless they get end users to buy them for real money. But if people want to donate real money to open source project they can just do so directly, they don't need a convoluted and silly altcoin scheme to achieve that. Unless they are also motivated to make a quick buck by selling to the greater fools that come after them - in which case it's also a ponzi scheme.

It's best to write your own articles on devtome rather than fixing other articles up. Only the original writer of the article gets paid, that writer could choose to pay you for your contributions: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=earn_devcoins_by_writing#contribution_etiquette but it's not required. After you write your own articles, you can also earn devcoins by marketing: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=earn_devcoins_by_marketing Title: Re: Devcoin Post by: owsleybeatsbigcartel on June 13, 2013, 09:12:10 PM *yawn* yet another something-from-nothing scheme. It is my third favorite coin after Bitcoin and Litecoin, and (as far as I know) these are also the only three coins that the cryptocoin securities markets currently deal with. In the case of Devcoin, there are currently four assets on Cryptostocks priced in DVC (Devcoin Bounty, a DVC Pyramining proxy, a DVC investment bond, and a Asicminer passthrough). I think Devcoin has a potential niche as a cheaper coin for lower-value transactions (sort of like what Feathercoin seems to be trying to do), and among the developer etc. community. Due to the potential for using bounties for purposes beneficial to society, it might appeal to ex-Freicoin users. It would be nice if they removed the word 'Bitcoin' (and Bitcoin symbol) from their client and replaced them with the word 'Devcoin' and Devcoin symbol though, as well as tried to get more merchants etc. to accept Devcoin.

Title: Re: Devcoin Post by: mikaelh on June 15, 2013, 08:55:44 AM Devcoin is merged mined with Bitcoin. Most of the minted coins are sent to the Devcoin admins who hand them out to people.
Title: Re: Devcoin Post by: mikaelh on June 15, 2013, 09:07:33 AM i read up on devcoin now, but confused. Devcoin creation never stops? No matter wat, new coins are always created? So its inflation coin, and all the coins are decreasing in value on every block? Am I wrong? I think not. That's correct. There's no limit on how many coins will be issued. The supply will be steady for as long as people keep mining them. Title: Re: Devcoin Post by: FinShaggy on June 15, 2013, 04:03:38 PM i read up on devcoin now, but confused. The coins value are based on projects it completes. Look up "devcoin boutnies" on Google. Title: Re: Devcoin Post by: FinShaggy on June 21, 2013, 04:17:24 PM i read up on devcoin now, but confused. Well yes it is based on market price, but if Devcoin starts selling new age rocket fuel, all the sudden the coins will be worth a lot more.
