The last 778.something resistance from a couple of days ago before the dip to 743 was broken in the past hours. Now if you step back and take a look at the graphic you'll see that we have been going up for months now with a very healthy looking lateral uptrend. This is looking really good gentlemen, so get ready to buy as much as possible during any potential dips because we are going 800s soon.

the price action is certainly far more encouraging than one insane run up.

I'm wondering if bitcoin has gotten past that stage but I doubt it has.

i am always happy to see a rise in bitcoin but this seems to be a temporary up and down fluctuation that has been happening for a couple of weeks now with an overall rise. which means the bottom is slowly shifting up and the high is also going a bit higher each time.

but i hope to wake up tomorrow to a $800 price!

I do have my doubts here,how do you calculate the resistance of bitcoin here as i was struggling for a while to understand how to calculate that. If you can please do enlighten me regarding this, yes the price has broken the $779 mark and i do expect the price to go uphill until a major negative news breaks against bitcoin other than that there is no reason for the price to go down.

Today price got another spike pushing it to over $780 i think there will be next resistance at $800 and than $800+ or even $900+ could be price on new year. Nice to see bitcoin eating all sell orders.  :D

I'd like to see us breach $800. I can't remember the last time we were above $800 for a significant amount of time.
People need to keep buying, you don't want to regret not eating up these cheap coins whilst we are still sub $1000.

"Lateral" means "sideways", so "lateral uptrend" is a bit of an oxymoron (contradiction of terms).

In this case it's appropriate though because while we've been going more or less sideways for the last week and a half, it's been creeping slowly upward.

800+ price is 99% achievable in this month but $900+ price i dont think that we can see in this month , next year also wont be much possible as their is small hurdle near $850 price where it will stick for some more time then it will move up or little bit low if it keeps above 800$ price then surely in feb 2017 we will see the price of bitcoin above $900+

The price of bitcoin is found to increase and decrease without being stable on a particular price. Now as expected price movement towards $800 has begun. I believe the price sustains and continues growing as we are getting near to the end of the year 2016. Every year end price increase happens to some extent.

There's nothing to calculate, just look at the graphic, but OP forgot to mention the 778 resistance as seen in last june. Then after that peak, we dipped all the way down to 465 dollars in august because of the bitfinex incident.

So we went for months trying to come back for the 778, in december 2, we tried and failed, 10 days later, we are finally past 778, and we are 779+

Resistance just means a price that has been tried to be surpassed in the past but failed.

One of the interesting things to note is that it isn't just exchange bullshit. The localbitcoin stats are ever higher too. There's some real demand from people.

I will not be surprised if price surpass $800 by end of this month or even earlier. Also this price rise seem steady one rather than sudden surge. This uptrend seems promising...

I prefer a slow uptrend over a long period, than these mini bubbles ... but I guess the day traders are loving the volatility and are making tons

bitcoin is not about resistances, when it is set to fly is because it was set to fly! not because it broken resistances

The exchanges are certainly doing well. They get 2 fees from every trade, 1 from the buy and 1 from the sell.

Trading would be a net zero game if it weren't for that house vigorish. As it stands, more is lost than earned through trading.

Volatility makes money. Long up trend is great for long term investors. But when price going sideways for weeks that's not good for short term traders.

It is my belief that we will be seeing a significant acceleration of the rally, once the price breaks through $ 800. There are strong fundamental factors at work. Demand in India, Venezuela and China is soaring because of their governments restricting or inflating fiat cash. Once journalists become aware that Bitcoin is rising again, they will start to write more articles about, because articles about a good investment case are appreciated by readers, no matter how inadequate they really are.

Increased media reporting will ignite the rocket motor of Bitcoin. A new bubble will form.

People should have bought their coins way below current price levels as they had more than enough time to do so. If you buy right now, then reaching $800 or $820 won't that big of a deal. You'll either need to buy plenty of coins where you can benefit from the price reaching $800, or you need to keep holding till the price reaches +$1000 levels in 2017. Best is simply to keep holding the coins you bought far below current levels to see where we are heading towards.

Wt might cross $800 at this rate but be ready to radical crash in January. Natural price cycle of bitcoin will bite us in the ass.
I would be very surprised if the price would stay on this level in first quarter of 2017.

I think next major target is 950-1000 before seeing serious retrace. As to how quickly that comes, it's hard to say.

It could take months, or mere weeks. When BTC wants to rip, it rips.

i wouldn't be so sure. this hasn't come out of nowhere. it's been a long time coming and growing. it's a rally but not a bubble. a bubble would have to be seen to be believed.

786.10 USD on Bitstamp; $787.80 on Kraken - it is the highest bitcoin price in more than 2 years. Definitely need some media coverage not only from cryptocurrency related agencies.
When general media are covering bitcoin positively there is always high chance of new users flocking to BTC as a result.

i love how steady bitcoin rises. there is no fly anymore and it is only solid price rise with a very strong buy support and every time a rather bigger rise happens there is a tiny correction after it because the buy support is still strong even after a bigger rise.

now we may even see the $800 resistance be broken before Christmas.

Uh, no. Next major target is still $800 at this point. After that the target won't be reaching $900, but settling above the $800 level which on itself is already a more than difficult target as nothing comes easy with Bitcoin. $800 could be broken this year, but to see a price anywhere near the $900 level, we must wait for 2017. And yes, that might take months as there is still a significant correction that experienced traders are waiting for. After that, the price will be able to rush up further. As long as this correction has not shown up yet, we shouldn't expect much from the price.

As expected, as soon as we crossed the 778 resistance, we tested 793.3, almost 800. We saw a correction, smart people bought the dip and are now back on track with extra BTC. We are now sitting comfortably above 778, 781 right now. Looks really good. Next test for 800 begins soon. Prepare yourself and remember to wear a helmet.

We seem to be see-sawing in an extremely narrow range. The price crossed $780 multiple times, but we haven't seen a big outbreak. My sense is that we are going to see a big move once this range gives way and I think it will be in the upward direction.

the 778-9 dollar doesn't seem to be a resistance but instead a middle price that bitcoin is playing jump rope with when it goes above it and then comes down. and this is one of those times that i hate bitcoin market because i can not predict which way it is going to go and it always stays for a long time at this rather stable price.

People think about the best gift for bitcoin users in the christmas is when we see the price reached $800!

The price continue fluctuate and has set increase at $775-780, looks like normal for bitcoin.
We could see $800 again if we agreed not to sell, I remember few days ago when the price suddenly hit $788 and then few hours later constantly declined. I thought some people can't wait and just sell like they have planned.
We should be patient and let the price rises to $1000, all you need is faith my friends, bitcoin has huge potential.

yes absolutely right. all can change quickly at Christmas. a lot of people who will sell bitcoin at the time, but most people predict that prices will continue to rise higher.

A nice dip! Bought some coins the past hours, no we are again to 781 and growing, looking really good, we will end the year with a very nice graphic, ready to start 2017 with a very nice uptrend. The 200 day average is looking fantastic, we are primed towards a big fat price rally, we will smash the last ATH and beyond. 2017 is the real deal.

I am expecting bitcoin to break out of $800 at anytime soon. It can be a perfect Christmas gift. Although there are some speculations that in holiday season bitcoin will face some sell off but I think it is not happening this time. Guess we will have to wait and see how things go.

I think that we are going to see 800% before Christmas, we are only a couple of dollars away now, the resistance will be broken and we'll hit 800. 9 days to do until we hit 25th, 9 days is a lot of hours, we can hit a 19 dollar run minutes.

What dip? Was it even a noticeable one? I must of missed it because all I have been seeing is $779 all the way last night until this morning when it peaked at $781.3 but then it is just stabilizing now.

The lowest I've seen today is around 771$ so this is dip pereira4 mentions in his post.It was a nice dip for traders since price is bounce up again and now is around 780$ on most western exchanges,on Coinbase is 782$ currently.

There is high resistance on this 780$ mark and and will be difficult to reach 800$ and keep the price stable this year.I agree that 2017 should be great year for BTC,we have slow and steady growth and no bad news so far.I think the situation is quite promising for BTC :)

$790 high on stamp today so far...

The price is floating around the 790 dollar mark now and it can break the 800 barrier pretty soon and i hope it could break that by Christmas.Hope the trend continues next year too.

That's right. The next point is going to be 800$ and it's going to be the best present for Christmas to all of users. I ready to bet that on the New Year we will get another present as 800+$ per 1 BTC. Bitcoin is going to fly to the sky my friends!

We saw 794.34 dollars in bitstamp a couple of hours ago, this is the new resistance. We tested 794.24 after a 789 dip, now we are sitting at 789.22.. looking good, 2 hour graph looks like a perfect uptrend. 800 before next year before possible, I dont see why not.

 few more days and will gonna see 800$ .we will not wait for next year to that  price cause 2 or 3 more days,800$ will be see on every exchange, but it will only last for a week  and i know you know the answer on it

800$ is any moment now but this or maybe 850$ could be the peak for this year. Some are thinking we could even achieve 1000$ by the end of this month but it seems too optimistic and not so real. Let's just hope that no major incident on Bitcoin market will happen and then we could keep going in this direction for reaching the highest price ever.

Just saw the price on Blockchain and it was 793$ we are close to the point of 800$ as never before. There were some topics about present for Christmas, that would be great if bitcoin would hit 800$ by that day, but now I'm sure that we will see higher price.

   I think this new year will bring many presents, an of them will be price increase on 800 $, something we all have been waiting for. My stash will worth even more, I'm always happy for that.

It is better for the price to rise between 5 to 10% every month. If the price rises too fast, there could be a dump.

It's been pretty fast, a bit faster than expected. 900$+ seems like a new strong floor right now, pretty awesome. We'll be at 1000$+ before new year, potentially a new ATH even. Everything is possible right now. Only idiots will be missing out on owning a piece of internet history like bitcoin. You couldn't buy TCP/IP shares, but you can buy bitcoin protocol shares. I can't believe people isn't going all in on this thing.

I agree completely,this was so fast and unexpectedly.It was difficult to expect that prices will go up to 900$ this year,and it is not over yet although we see that after reaching 900$ price is drop to around 875-880$.Now everything is possible,even to see 1000$ before end of this year.

China is again playing big part in this pump,but this year India is also show big interest for BTC like some other countries.I hope drop will not be too big after this pump finish.

Reaching $1000 and maintaining it are two different things. Before we can look forward to what has to come after finanlly reaching $1000 again, we must be able to put up enough buy support at various levels in order to keep the price there instead of wobbling up and down between three and four figure prices. And who knows what will happen once we finally touch the $1000 level again. It's no surprise that when we are doing well, out of nothing hacked services and exchanges pop up taking the price down. It's nothing new anymore.

This big pump over the past few days freaks me out, I mean it's great profits don't get me wrong. I just don't want to have to go through a huge correction. The falls are always muchfaster than the rises from what I've seen in the past (ex. 7 days to rise $100 then it falls $80 in 24h).

I want serious advice this is right time to buy some coins or not?

I say buying BTC now is bit risky. We will see some big time profit taking if this continues and that will make the price drop

when you decide to buy and price tanks all you lose is your investment. so make that a figure and kiss it good-bye.
if it does´t work out. ok, there was a chance. but if bitcoin rockets on steroids through the house of card stack world of finance, you may feel sour to have come that close to buying some, but then hesitated because of the price. this may be a one shot in a lifetime chance. throw at least some @it.

We just tested 920 minutes ago looking at bitstamp USD/BTC, really, really nice vibes about this. I feel like we are really close for the 1,000 milestone. That's 80 dollars away only... the more the price pushes the more confident it becomes to reach it. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. The higher it goes the more feedback it gets. This market psychology will guarantee 1,000. I think even if a bitfinex type incident happens, the dip will get bought fast.

Here you have it, the $920 resistance that guy above talks about was broken in the past few hours, new peak is $935, and we have already seen a correction and now we are at $930, bitcoin's fantastic performance keeps proving haters wrong. When you think it's over, you realize it was just another dip and people that shorted lost their pants and got kicked out of the game. Holders win again. See you at 1k+!!

Well guys look at the graphs right now, it's moving, we just pushed the 935$ mark up to 936.42$ after that dip, looks like it's about to keep pushing. Interesting night tonight, will grab some popcorn and look at the rollercoaster, it seems like we may be sitting in 1000$ faster than most people think, grab your seatbelts, the last days of the year will be fun.
