Title: The Future of Bitcoin Is Not as a Digital Currency
Post by: unknown04 on December 13, 2016, 09:57:06 AM
Circle unveiled itself at a bitcoin conference in 2014, vowing to take the digital currency mainstream. But like so many other startups that embraced this big idea at around the same time, its mission has changed.

In January, I met Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire for coffee in San Francisco. Even then, he was careful to paint his company not as a bitcoin operation but as an outfit that would help people easily trade good old-fashioned dollars with friends and family via a new smartphone app. And now, as it announced yesterday, Circle will no longer allow customers to buy and sell bitcoin. There is no doubt that bitcoin will be the digital currency of future and it has already been accepted by big merchants nothing to worry about. Also i think circle stop supporting bitcoin buy/sell to start their own centralized payment gateway like paypal to make more profit from heavy transaction fees and all types of hidden fees which they can't make with bitcoin.

Bitcoin evolved as a payment processor which gradually got acceptance as a good investment and the best digital currency. The problem with circle is that they might be making plan to generate their own digital currency to compete with other digital currencies, so might stopped buying and selling bitcoin.

all these types of negative news and all these FUD always have some traces of truth inside them, and that is why they usually seem appealing and sometimes even work as an FUD to make price unstable.

in case of Circle CEO and his nonsense that he has been saying, you should look at why he is saying it. and I believe one of the main reasons for it is the fact that his business has failed and he is trying to blame everything there is out there to divert the finger that is pointing at him for his failure.

i am sure that bitcoin is digital currency for now and for future because bitcoin can reach all of country and all people without any differences and all of us can use bitcoin with same satoshi. i know that in out there, many people will not believe about this and suspect that bitcoin is only use for illegal activity, but they don't read from the right source so they give this statement and i think let the time will give the answer.

In my opinion this article that you have read OP is BS. maybe circle just stops accepting bitcoin because the owner have not believed bitcoin very much and more likely that they didn't like it's very volatile price. Maybe they also didn't like sometimes the way how bitcoin is used sometimes, since others use it for illegal purposes frequently. There is also a possibility that they will create their own digital currrency but it is only a possibility.

I thought it was a digital currency all along.
Bitcoin is often called the first cryptocurrency, although prior systems existed and it is more correctly described as the first decentralized digital currency.
Circle changing their goal has nothing to do with bitcoin's future. It's a digital currency and a store of value, even if it doesn't become widely accepted as a currency and remain only the latter, it can reach mainstream and succeed. I think this is very probable.

Bitcoin is always a digital currency since it was created. At present, Bitcoin is still need many support from people and investors to make it become even a greater currency in the future. The Bitcoin adoption is one of the most important mission for Bitcoin right now. There are still many countries discourage citizen from using it and it is really annoying. I hope that in the future, many more people will realize the benefits of Bitcoin and start using it as a primary currency.

This article means nothing, I spent 10 minutes for nothing. They can continue to drink coffee and wonder about what can happen in the future, its their right. Future of bitcoin is being made right now, and for almost a year in bitcoin I see progress, maybe that progress is not fast as some people expect to be, but we will get there.
Bitcoin is digital currency, and it can be used much more in the future, mass adoption can happen and we just need to wait for it.

This is kind of an old thread now, but I'm still very disappointed that Circle did this.  Buying bitcoin was as easy as I've ever seen.  I signed up at Kraken, and they're so full of shit as far as buying bitcoin with USD it's ridiculous, and I'm not doing it with them.

Circle is entitled to their opinion about anything, just as we all are, but it really sucks that they abandoned bitcoin.  I have no use for them now.  If I want to send fiat to someone, PayPal is just as easy and I've been using them for a lot longer than Circle.   :'(

I can see other Bitcoin based exchanges and payment processors either closing or doing a pivot just like Circle did. There is not enough money in the whole Bitcoin economy to have this many exchanges that we have right now. Some of them will have no choice but to close down. The most potent niche in the Bitcoin market right now is the dark markets. The growth potential over there is so big it will become like a gold rush for drug vendors.

The future of digital currency will to unify, appear a super strong situation.
My country's  banks at the beginning of this year had held a seminar on digital currency, the central bank issued digital currency has been put on the agenda. Some of the world's banks and technology companies are also developing digital currency, the Bank of England plans to issue digital currency. All this means that the digital currency is getting closer and closer to our real life. However, the government led the issue of digital currency may be in circulation in the future, perhaps bitcoin can only exist as an asset class in my country.

What they're talking about, The bitcoin blockchain helps drive Circle Pay, the app that lets you trade dollars with friends and family. And the company just unveiled a new open source project called Spark that seeks to use the blockchain and similar distributed ledgers as a means of moving all sorts of currencies, something so many others are working on
Seems like a propaganda to get rid of bitcoin from blockchain technology and take the distributed ledger for them.
I agree that circle pay should stop trade bitcoin and just create their own technology and cryptocurrency to compete with bitcoin.

Well I agree. Bitcoin has all the potential to be the main digital currency in the future. With the features that bitcoin has, I think it would be fiat's digital equivalent when it comes to use. Even now, the surge of bitcoin's price indicates that more and more people are already using it and given a couple of more years, bitcoin for me would be the primary digital currency that most people use.

Every one have the right to his or her own view based on the assumption and interpetation he holds to be valid but that also does not mean we have to buy the idea or force that same idea on us... In as much as they did not believe that Bitcoin's future is not as digital currency, no one can still erase the fact that, that function is one of those things that brings the current popularity being enjoyed today because to majority especially non-techie guys every other thing, aside digital currency, is simply "A CODE OR SOFTWARE"...

That is reality. There is a lot of "legitimate" Bitcoin based businesses that are out there to scam the people too. There are cloud mining sites, some of the altcoin exchanges and many more just waiting to do their own exit scams. The foundations of all of Bitcoin is based on scams which created and developed its own ecosystem.

Having Circle leaving behind and moving forward with PayPal and paymaya has no effect on bitcoin economy. Even though they left, bitcoin has again improve and strengthen itself with its price rising up to 1000$. But the question of it becoming the digital  currency of the future is vague. Banks and government are now moving towards a fiat virtual currency. Virtual currency is the future but its not sure if it is bitcoin.

Whatever Circle is having or believing, they are entitled to it. They know what they saw when they went in all for Bitcoin and now, they are saying they are leaving who am I to say No to them or castigate the position they are choosing? All I know is that they cannot remove the fact that Bitcoin serving as a digital currency contributed to a large extent to the popularity it enjoys today. No more no less.

Indeed bitcoin is truly one of the best digital currency we have today. But the problem is that there would probably be a better one that would change bitcoins and ultimately be the next digital currency that would totally pace out fiat currency. Because bitcoin might not catch up with the whole world before governments create their own cryptocurrency that they would have to replace their fiat.

I dont think so that bitcoin would able to compete with the most powerful currency on the entire globe and i believe that bitcoin would remain as a digital currency only and would stay on its place. If bitcoin would be a global currency they should focus first on how to centralized it because if they cant do it then they would not recognize it for sure.

Well, all these years later, bitcoin is certainly not a mainstream digital currency. And Circle’s decision to stop operating as a bitcoin exchange is just the latest sign that it won’t become one anytime soon.
All this 8 years, bitcoin has been the best and mainstream digital currency compare to other altcoins obviously.
Yeah, better for them to quit interfere bitcoin world and create their own cryptocurrency.
What makes bitcoin moving forward because it is digital, send/receive through online network.
If bitcoin in the future create not as digital currency then it will be deterioration of bitcoin development.

currency refers to a generally accepted form of
money, including coins and paper notes, which is issued by a government and circulated within an economy.

actually bitcoin is form of money, we can buy things by bitcoin, and it is issued by government and circulated within economy of a country like Japan. so according to the definition, bitcoin is a currency, even it has another function.

money, including coins and paper notes, which is issued by a government and circulated within an economy.

actually bitcoin is form of money, we can buy things by bitcoin, and it is issued by government and circulated within economy of a country like Japan. so according to the definition, bitcoin is a currency, even it has another function.
Yes, the property of investment opportunity will not last for ever. Because the demand of bitcoin will get saturated according to the world population regardless of its  limited supply. But this will happen only after 200 years. So, as of now bitcoin will be serving us in both the functionalities.

Maybe in future itself, bitcoin will be identified as only currency as the price appreciations will not be in significant levels at any time like gold is doing right now.

That's is not a circle company purpose to be a bitcoin exchange in first place, it's mentioned on the article, so clearly if they just try bitcoin, not really want to be a real bitcoin exchange, I think the purpose is to see how people interested to digital currency.

That will not affect to other company who have a serious run bitcoin business. No doubt bitcoin will be a future digital currency.

I doubt bitcoin will just suddenly die, because people stopped using it. The price is rising along with the popularity, I think btc is becoming only stronger. And being digital is in the essence of bitcoin. I heard about the ideas of making btc paper money. I think its crazy, because being immaterial is one of the btc advantages above the fiat.

I am pretty sure bitcoin will become future digital currency, the enthusiatic of bitcoin user is very high, and the transaction flow of this coin is really high, and in the future there will be more user used bitcoin as currency, and beside of that bitcoin also can become investment, so there will be more and more people used bitcoin

I agree with you. Bitcoin will become a global, alternative currency to US dollar and Euro. People will use it to do more transaction with each other. Every day the transactions are growing and more users are getting to the game. People are using bitcoin as a store of value which shows their confidence in bitcoin.
I dont think so that bitcoin would able to compete with the most powerful currency on the entire globe and i believe that bitcoin would remain as a digital currency only and would stay on its place. If bitcoin would be a global currency they should focus first on how to centralized it because if they cant do it then they would not recognize it for sure.
i also do not think so, to me i think the only successful online currency is bitcoin and will continue for ever as most of the people are still giving preference to bitcoin and therefore it will remain the world number one currency.
