Title: activity calculator
Post by: DigiSoul on December 15, 2016, 01:47:19 PM
I have seen this post and copy pasted.. I haven't understood this.. Please explain:

How is forum activity calculated?
Activity is calculated with the following formula:
Code:
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is increased by staying logged in or by posting and is updated every 30 minutes. There is a maximum of 14 activity points every 2 weeks.

It means that your activity will stop increasing once your post reach time*14.  Time is the number of activity periods that you've posted in at least once.  You can find the list of activity periods here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582736.0).

Activity is updated every 30 minutes.
This means that if you haven't reached your max activity and have posted few posts, you'll get the activity in 30 minutes.

If you still don't get it, browse around this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.1120).  There's like 1000 repeated questions and answers about activity there.

Simply said: You will get up to 14 activity every 14 days.

If you post more, you get 14 activity, if you post less, you can get less activity. In addition, if you post say once every two weeks, you do get potential activity. This means in the next weeks you can gain more than 14 activity, as you were active but posted less than the maximum.

Hope this is clear.

Yeah NorrisK's explanation is correct.

Like in my situation, I have posted account sales thread here back in 2015, and made some intermediate posts for them, making my account have some potential activity. I had only ~30 activity about a week ago before I decided to join the community again (that's why I had leave with this account with potential activity and sold my old account), and after this post and the activity update, I'll be a Member with exactly 60 activity point if I don't make more posts in the period. In the next 1210000 second period, if I post, I would gain 14 more potential activity.

In a line: The maximum activity cap for a member will increase only 14 in a 1210000 second period (=14d 0h 6m 40s).

This is about as good & as simple an explanation as you'll see here.

I still find it difficult to understand.. ???
This is the 3 basic example to know Rank updates.

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

For example, if in a 14 day period you post 14 posts, you gain +14 activity.
If you post 2 posts in a 14 day period, you gain +2 activity.
If you don't post at all in a 14 day period, you don't gain activity.
However, if you post 15 or more posts in a 14 day period, you still gain only +14 activity.

Jr. Member:   Activity: 30
Member:   Activity: 60
Full Member:   Activity: 120
Sr. Member:   Activity: 240
Hero Member:   Activity: 480

This is the basic explanation for jump ranks.
1 X 14 = 14
2 X 14 = 28
3 X 14 = 42     ( jr member) 30days-42days
4 X 14 = 56
5 X 14 = 70     (member) 60days -70days
6 X 14 = 84
7 X 14 = 98
8 X 14 = 112
9 X 14 = 126   (full member) 120days-126days
10 X 14 = 140
11 X 14 = 154
12 X 14 = 168
13 X 14 = 182
14 X 14 = 196
15 X 14 = 210
16 X 14 = 224
17 X 14 = 238
18 X 14 = 252 (Sr. Member) 252days
19 x 14 = 266
20 x 14 = 280
21 x 14 = 294
22 x 14 = 308
23 x 14 = 322

"
"
35 x 14 = 490(hero  member) 490days or 16 months

This is without doubt the best explanation so far!! I wish this was available from day one, like a message you received once you register or so.
Thank you so much!!

You can get a maximum of 14 points of activity every 2 weeks. But, if you didn't recieve all 14 points in 2 weeks, you can recieve them (I think only a part of them) in the next weeks. That's what is called potential activity.

Just to clarify- I have signed up 6 months ago on the forum but never posted a single post and now past two weeks I am being as active as possible then how is it calculated? Will it be limited as regular or some Extra activity can be awarded to me?

It will be given like regular activity. You need to post in each 14 activity period to get the activity, even one post is enough to get all 14 activity. If you haven't posted in these time frames then you won't be eligible for it. Sign up date doesn't matter, older accounts still have to go through the process of posting in each 14 activity period.

Okay, thanks for the information!
But I still didnt get the major difference between activity and potential activity? Just eager to know as many things I can about forum :)

Potential activity just means you've earned the 14 activity, but haven't posted that much. So you could have a potential activity of 28 because you posted in two 14 activity periods, but you have only posted two posts, therefore you have a potential activity of 28 but only two posts. To get that activity you need to have equal or more posts.

As far as i know there is a right thread and stated that clearly about the potential activities of every account i think you already read that mate and do not ask this kind of question again and you are already a full member you reach that rank without knowing about this. Lmao

And if the first 2 weeks I published 15 messages, and in the second 2 weeks only 1 message, can my status go down?

It can only go down if that one post is deleted. If all your posts from one period get deleted then you will lose that activity forever.

I liked your answer friend, does the 14 days work from the moment I created the account? or do you have to follow the rule? For example, suppose that day 1 to 14 generates activity, or has a specific day,? ???

The day from when your account is signed up to be taken in count for 14 days and every 14 days you'll achieve max of 14 activity and not more. So, be active additionally post quality and meaningful posts. Be patient you'll earn the reward :)

Yes, thanks for the clarification.  I thought activity was the number of posts and was wondering why my activity wasn't increasing.  A "floating" activity count like this make more sense.

No, you have to have at least 1 post per 2 weeks to be able to gain activity.

Better to report him/it than answering him/it. The effort made to find this old topic and not reading it or not taking a look on the active sticky topics is questionable!

BTW, 1 topic, 3x resurrected by necro posts... How wonderful. Lock it maybe mods?

Yeah I know I often do report them but the system is not easy to understand for newbies and I had the feeling about this one and I just thought I'll answer instead.
