Title: [TRC] new 0.1.3-30 mandatory update

Hi,

Urgent, mandatory build 0.1.3-30 is now available at our github
repository, windows builds were uploaded to sourceforge.

This build will be mandatory at block 101631. You may update your
terracoin installation now, the new algorithm will not be applied until
block 101631 is created.

This update provide a new difficulty computation mechanism, in order to
prevent the huge difficulty variations we saw the last few days, and
return to normal operations.

This algorithm uses a type of finite impulse response filter
(exponential moving average or EMA), to smooth out short-term
fluctuations in delay between blocks.

The last 2160 blocks are used to compute this ema (roughly 3 days worth
of blocks).

Some code was also added to speedup the return to normal operations, by
providing one-shot lower difficulties on blocks taking more than 20
minutes during the first 3 days following the update.

All branches are updated and available at our github & sourceforge
repositories.
Windows binaries are also available at our sourceforge.net mirror.

Source-based update:

If you previously cloned our repository, update is easy:

cd /path/to/your/local/clone/
git checkout master  # locally on the master branch locally
git pull origin master  # fetches and merges remote master branch

# headless daemon:
cd src
nice make -f makefile.unix -j 4

# qt-client:
qmake USE_IPV6=-

Thanks for your patience.
Again, sorry for the mandatory update.

This is coming up awfully quick. Alert pool and other service operators if you know them.

unfortunately ... no ... this isn't going to be as quick as we think : the current blockchain is damn stalled .. every single block takes 4 to 12 hours ...

The last block took only 45 minutes, actually!

Of course, it's been over an hour since then...

I'll try to update my (paltry) mining power tonight.

Is this news the reason why we're back up to 0.00440000?

Is this news the reason why we're back up to 0.00440000?

i guess this update release added quite a few orders when announced, but it looks like miners are just waiting for the diff to go down before joining :(

i'm getting nervous while waiting for those 4 tiny last blocks,  mining it with every single piece of sillicium i have right now :)
(no way i miss the reasonable diff opportunity this time)

Thanks for the heads-up on this.

Also suggest people should subscribe to receive update notifications by email at SourceForge.net, in case they miss a notice like this in the forums.

Not much notice with this latest mandatory update. I hope it helps the network get back on track!

we need miners!  big one's 3 more blocks and we're THERE!

i can't agree more !

p2pool's pushing some hashes, currently @5+ Ghashes/s but ... we need more, more and more miners !

reading the code, i think the diff will go from 135238 to 33810 as soon as we reach the code update block (past 101631 ?) this will probably make the coin more profitable to mine (not yet above 100% with the first retarget, but after that...), eventually attracting more miners ?

Downloaded the update and have 3 connections to the network. Good thing too, as I'm 5 days behind.

Now just 10 hours behind with 12 connections, I'd say that terracoin is far from dead!

I'm stuck at 10 hours ago, but it has all the blocks... I guess it's waiting for the next block to count as caught up.  ::)

So has it really been 11 hours since the last TRC block?

yes, it's been a while :(

it could take just a few minutes to find two consecutive blocks, or .. hours .. i'm trying to help by using anything that can mine here, but as i have no real mining rig (yet?) i'm not helping that much

EDIT : just got one more (101629) :p

Last 2 blocks were mined in an hour or so so it's coming soon. Hopefully, new algorithm is good one.

Come on TRC, make me happy :)

Something strange happening, it's not mined at coinotron at all. 0.8GH, it was 160GH before new algo.

A bit concerned here.

Coinotron didn't give me credit for any shares and now it looks like they got a massive string of invalids and the difficulty is shooting up again

Coinotron is not designed for something like this. If TRC developers warned me that this will happen I would at least let miners know before and switch off pool for this period.

I was surprised myself. You're on the mailing list though, right? EDIT: not that they said this on the mailing list.

My miners did a lot of shares but can't find them back in my account also.
And my PPC is over the pay threshold for a few days but don't get paid.

Coinotron, I'm out until this is fixed and paid.

It's a fair game. I've mined offline for hours with my Avalon at difficulty=135k in exchange these later difficulty=1 blocks. Blocks #101623 to #102194 were all my blocks. I also have a longer chain but failed to deploy in time. >:(

Could you lower the PPC payout limit? I'm not gonna mine them again and I don't think you just can keep my 7.48 PPC.
Set the limit at 2 but found out you only pay out at 10...

Why isn't there a "manual payout" button like in every pool? Makes life easier...

This algorithm uses a type of finite impulse response filter
(exponential moving average or EMA), to smooth out short-term
fluctuations in delay between blocks.
You guys need to send your programmer(s) back to school to take a basic control theory course.

Expotential moving average is a kind of infinite impulse response filter (IIR), not a FIR. Neither of those are really applicable to regulating the coins based on the Bitcoin architecture: IIR & FIR theory is valid on the assumption of causality. Bitcoin block timestamps are acausal, in other words the time in the blockchain can flow backward (with certain limit, 2hrs in the original Bitcoin), which completely breaks the underlying theory of discrete-time fixed sample rate filters like the common FIR and IIR designs.

ArtForz in the past used his knowledge of this to exploit the original Solidcoin chain, and maybe others.

Pool will be back as soon as situation is normal. I just hate to explain to miners why there was strike of 20 consecutive orphaned blocks.
Not to mention that PPS is impossible under these circumstances.

One question:
When I visit Coinotron, click account and forgot to login I get:

It's obvious that I have to login so why not redirect to the loginscreen instead of "You are not authorized to view this page"?
