Here are some altcoins that I think it could be a good move to have in 2017. It would be nice to recheck in say, 3 months (march 2017) what is my success rate. I will explain how I would distribute in % of holding I would go. (So for example, I have 1000$ to invest, if I say I would go 10% on this one, then it's 100$)

1) ETH

Price this moment (2016-12-16): 0.01 BTC  or 7,90$
UPDATE 2016-12-28: 7.13$
Yes ETH price dropped a lot, but it seems now that the drop is over. It could go back to 1 000 000 000$ marketcap but of course I'm not all in for this one. Let's say 20%


2) Bitcoin

Price this moment (2016-12-16):  783$
UPDATE 2016-12-28: 967$
Not that much to say, it's the king and since the halving in july 2016 that price is still rising slowly, but I don't expect it to double, so a safe bet. Another 20%


3) Monero

Price this moment (2016-12-16): 0.0108 BTC  or 8,48$
UPDATE 2016-12-28: 13,72$
Stay solid at over 100 000 000$ marketcap, could go easy to 150 000 000$ marketcap again. Another 20%


4) Blackcoin (BLK)

Price this moment (2016-12-16): 0.00003396 BTC  or 0.0266$
UPDATE 2016-12-28: 0.027$
This one is a different strategy. It seems to always oscillate between 2 000 000$ and 3 000 000$ marketcap. So right now it's time to buy and watch when a pump occur and then resell for profit (just before 3 000 000$) Another 20%


5) ESPERS (ESP2)

Price this moment (2016-12-16): 0.00000055 LTC  or 0.000001996$
UPDATE 2016-12-28: 0.00000298$
Ok this one is more for a homerun or nothing. It cost nothing, so risk is very low. If it gains attention it will enter BTC market and more exchange. So an easy X10 on this one if this occurs. so 10%


6) Litecoin LTC

Price this moment (2016-12-16): 0.004633 BTC  or 3.63$
UPDATE 2016-12-28: 4.61$
Not that much to say, it's the alt that bring them all, seems like it ain't dead. so 10%


So in my example, with 1 000$ as of today (2016-12-16) I would get:

20% in ETH so 25.3165 ETH
20% in BTC so 0.2554 BTC
20% in XMR so 23.58 XMR
20% in BLK so 7518 BLK
10% in ESP2 so 50 100 200 ESP2
10% in LTC so 27.54 LTC

UPDATE 2016-12-28:
ETH holding is now (25.3165*7.13) 180.50$
BTC holding is now (0.2554*967)    246.97$
XMR holding is now (23.58*13.72)   323.52$
BLK holding is now (7518*0.027)      202.99$

i believe ETH price drop was mostly because of the bitcoin price rise which has always meant people cashing out of altcoin market and going back to bitcoin which has always been the go-to coin hence the future of ETH price depends on the near future of bitcoin price, for example if in the next month (Jan) we see $850+ and continue rising i expect ETH to go down to $5

also if bitcoin stops rising and we see Jan to be an stable price like before on 770 is price  altcoins would start moving again and ETH can see another pump and we know those pumps have always been big.


it has already doubled a couple of times, check out last year price. and people like me who bought at $200 have more than triple :)


i am expecting another period of rising price for this coin again in new year because anonymity is becoming more and more popular.
and monero is getting more famous in darknet.


This is one of those coins that i have been watching and waiting for its rise but it is taking too long, but the only thing that makes me still hopeful is that it has always have big pumps and it can be a lot bigger than 20%

I am kind of bullish of bitcoin, litecoin and XMR. Not much of a follower of ESPERS (ESP2). So if someone could explain why it could give good returns for 2017 it would be awesome. I am positive on tokens such as ICN, and SNGLS for 2017.

Maybe I wasn't clear enought, but when I said 20%, is 20% of investment to put, not 20% in rise.

Decent picks with decent justification man, but let me improve that sheet. Have in mind that I'm probably the best alt-investor in the scene  ;):

- ETH: Hype cycle is coming the way down. Most probably ETH is gonna drop to 300-500 M market cap for many months and then will look for a stabilization there, until the built-in dapps start to work (or not), ETH shouldn't have a substantial rise this year. I don't see ETH touching 1B again until real dapps start do be useful (maybe in 2018).
Suggestion: Change that 20% for Maidsafecoin (MAID). In Q1-Q2 Safe network is gonna be LIVE, and believe me, that protocol working is worth way more than 30-40M that we're seeing now.

- BTC: Agree.

- Monero: There's a lot of hype currently in Monero, but let's face facts: Monero has passed from 5M to 110M this 2016, and still no GUI, no real adoption, no nothing. It's a well known fact that Monero is supported by huge BTC holders, but that alone is not enough reason to invest. Short term looks primed for another rise to the 0.02 zone, just as ETH did after the first "crash", but that is a short term bet for traders, not for investors.
Suggestion: Take a look at Gamecredits (GAME). Penetration the REAL gaming sector starting this 2017. Expert and dedicated dev team with past succesful experiences in gaming sector, and with a great financial state to develop the project. If they reach only the 50% of acomplishments they want this 2017, price will easily make an X4-X5.

- Blackcoin: Agree, but don't sell when it touches 3M, when chinese pump, they pump hard. ;)

- Espers: This piece of shit most probably will be ever added to a BTC pairing exchange.
Suggestion: If you're looking for a risky shitcoin that can make an X10, take a look at solid coins like FLO, VIA or XVG. Maybe not an X10, but a very possible X5-X7.

- Litecoin: Agree.

Agree with you in most of them.

i personally am leaning more towards investing the majority of my money in bitcoin (increase the 20% to at least 40-50% at all times and at present time even bigger because of how bitcoin price is moving at the moment)

then i would reduce the percentage i invest in ETH because it is on a falling spree :) (maybe 10% to 0 is best at the moment)

XMR seems to be good at 20%

LTC at 10% is low in my opinion, although it is not at a good state right now pricewise. so maybe have it low right now but go in before it rises.

ESP2 i don't like this coin!

BLK sounds good enough to me although i am waiting for a bottom to get in so i am currently at 0%

Thanks for sharing! I wish I had enough to have that diverse a portfolio but since I only earn coins and not buy them, my holdings are really only what people pay to me so I have BTC, Doge, ltc and ETH.

Comments:

1. BTC not an alt, but I would put 30% as a safe hedge since you're putting quite a bit on risky alts.

2. China pump will affect several coins, and I would step lightly around newer ones and follow the trend of 1st Q pumps for the older alts: LTC, Doge, ETH.

You know I respect all of y'all's opinions on altcoins, but man.  Some a these is jist straight up junk, and I don't think they're gonna survive a year.

Lot of these things have crazy-ass devs and flocks of sheep that follow the coin.  But you jist know thet they're gonna lose interest eventually, and there ain't gonna be a blockchain fo' these coins to live on.  Think 'bout that.

I'm surprise not to see Factom on your list, apart from Bitcoin for me, Factom is the only coin presently with real world use, making money and have strong business team behind it. We should also note that it has fixed amount just 8.7 million tokens in total. The potential to hit $10 is huge

I'm really curious how these predictions will match with reality during the next few months.

I would also mention Dash. I don't expect any extreme rapid boost, but I believe it will grow from the current 0.01 BTC to 0.03 BTC at least within next year, which makes from it another interesting possibility for investment.

I don't know Espers but there are a lot of new players in the market that you have not included also old players that deserves attention,just take a look at Burstcoin and Maidsafe they very stable and community supported,more development will come to these two comes in 2017.

Getting in on Monero now could be a good investment.
Apparently most people haven't caught on to the fact that the GUI wallet is about to be released.
That should help get more people interested in XMR for sure.
Now we just need to convince some more vendors/ sites to accept it as payment, and the future could be very bright.

People behaving like you do are crypto-pustules, encouraging people to invest in scams, promoting them and never sharing real and sensed thoughts, but preferring to spam to increase your amount of posts to get higher rank and a pseudo higher legitimacy uh.

As 2017 coins, I'd go for Lisk (Q4 2017) considering they now have ICO funds and can also use it properly, Factom (some reason needed?). I guess Maidsafe may provide some interesting stuffs in 2017, but will they? 50/50.

For the smaller market capitalization, Bitbay, Qora and Blackcoin, but risk is as high as the potential profit is important, so i do not exclude investing some millions satoshis.

I'd also keep an eye on SingularDTV tokens, to grab some when the price will be low enough (but profit can take years).

That is need time, in 2017 I will invest to coin an already stable and have a large marketcap, hope always fortunately. 75% will I trade for the following coins: Monero, Etherium, Litecoin and Doge. And 25% will be the new coins that I traded, such as Iconomi, Waves and Chronobank.

I just want to know why ETH is on the number 1 list of yours? Why not bitcoin? Most of us will pick bitcoin as the number one coin and it is a majority picked and there's no doubt about that. And still you are forgetting some promising coins either, such as KMD, Waves, Lisk.

These predictions are mostly nonsense.  I say this because every altcoin depends on the rise and fall of Bitcoin.  Look at the current prices of all the altcoins mentioned in the OP.  They're all in the red.  Now why is that?  The answer is pretty obvious.

In. 2017 I foresee ethereum finally dead and Zcash taking over as the next big thing after bitcoins. Monero, litecoins and doge will also do their best.

I see ETH will be dead in 2017 and on, because so many better ones are coming. For example, byteball is in a good shape. For smaller altcoins I'd say Kurrent is one to watch.

I'd say that buying any legit altcoin now will be a good idea since all sank hardly due to the Bitcoin pump occuring now. For me price of the major ones should get to its pre-pump price once Bitcoin's price will have crasher hardly.

XC will be next star of year 2017 it have more better solutions for privacy and they have good technology for anonymity. Dev is going to implement some of the best tech in coming month.

Avoid problems and strange calculations. Invest all your money in bitcoin and at the end of 2017 you will probably get a very pleasant surprise. It is always better to bet everything to the eternal winner than to risk your money with potential candidates... or losers.

Zcash can improve it's position in the market cap with other altcoins. Ether can fall but it is far from dying.
It seems like it is here to stay for some more time and if the team can fix the issues, it will not be surprising to see another price increase.

No ZEC will worth like a little pennies soon, It's sadly but true.
More coin will get dump and the price will decrease, and from over 2k btc and it worth a little pennies soon. It may take some years later for get his recovery price and wich mean will fly again over 1 btc.

I'm not talking of an ATH. ETH's ATH is something like 0,04BTC, but if it only goes back to something like 0,015BTC, from where it is actually, that will be very good ! That's true for most of the major altcoins that took a nasty hit with that mighty Bitcoin price.

If forecasts for Bitcoin are confirmed in 2017, this will be a difficult year for most altcoins, but I think some cryptos will remain strong in the market. Litecoin is probably one of them, it seems they will try to implement segwit before Bitcoin. Monero is also a good alt, but it will all depend on the market's interest in a more anonymous cryptocurrency.

I agree with on Zcash, it has potential to move up  the ladder on the coinmarketcap.com, and I think the bottom could be around $20 at least and the more coins get mined the higher its marketcap

I predict that BTC , Dash and ZEC will give us big profits in the year of 2017
BTC is 50% -100% profit, ZEC is about 30%-60% profit and Dash is about 40% - 80% profit

its too many coins that will give us a profitable in 2017 because bitcoin itself don't have a stable position for the price so the altcoin is waiting to get increase. i am choose dash, etc, ltc, xmr, because that three of the coins is the oldest of the other coins beside of etc. etc itself i think could be increase too if we see the good movements in the market but let we see what will happen in 2017.

bitcoin is obviously going to conquer the cryptocurrencies market in early 2017 since it has started right now but this also means lots of great opportunities to buy cheaper altcoins but you have to wait for the bottom. and that is what i am going to do. after the new year buy at the bottoms and then wait for the pumps to start one by one.

I feel like whatever products are tied to Mega will have a huge increase in price the first week or two Mega is launched.

I'm going to grab a few more BURST coin and some Bitmark (BTM). Both are super cheap and even if they hit $0.25 a coin, you will be turning a nice profit.

In 2017, I would be happy to see your "investments" to be growing leaps and bounds. The cryptocurrency market is now on full swing and we could see more dramatic movements in the coming year. we all know ethereum is a pumping coin and it has been low long enough for the traders to accumulate and the whales to rest and make profit elsewhere. and this means they will pump it to the previous half of the ATH at least.

I have done good with Blackcoin and Monero in the past. I think those two are a sure thing. Actually Monero pumped already so looks like you were right on.

I also have picked Bitbay as a coin im investing heavliy in 2017. Trustless smart contracts. Cold staking (crypto 1st!) and a decentralised market alll about to be complete. Next it will be on a rolling peg (another crypto first)

 All this development and only has a MK of under $1m.  I'm banking on this jumping into a top30 coin Easy and a MK of over $10m. Ether hasn't achieve anything like this yet and they have $50m & a whole team of developers!

People will move to coins with actual working tech rather than funny meme pointless coins. . . Why invest in namecoin which has nothing going for it and has no development going on when you can invest in coins like bitbay, syscoin waves etc! You think hedge funds/venture capitalists etc  looking at investing billions of dollars in the close future will care about funny dogefaced coins? They only invest on product not promises!

I wonder why nobody mentions reddcoin/ RDD - price can not be any lower, active development, updates coming soon. Delisting from Polo just lead to a price decrease so that the only way is up this year.

My prediction for 2017. I think most of all it will be possible to earn with Byteballs, Chronobank, Waves, Wings and may be similar projects with serious plans and teams.

My predictionin the year if 2017: Dash, ZEC, ETH. These coins seems to have special technology and it has a big team and community and They are becoming gradually popular with many investors.

I got some 'free' on December 25th, but I've also bought some as well.  A small enough amount that won't hurt if it fails, but large enough that if it succeeds I'll be a proud and useful user and proponent.

Really you prediction are good but if it works definitely it will good for those who has those coin with them, but atleast it may reach to 10% profit also they will make profit. There are some other coin where we can make more % in this year like ZCASH, LEOcoin,XRP. This coin will give you little profit but don't expect more % in return.

I think bitcoin will not reach over 1,990$ in march ,2017. It's very difficult to pass 1,300$ in this year.

This coin is all over the forum, I hope users are not believing everything they read and do the proper research before investing. But to keep this OT. I think that currencies with good potential are those that bring something new, and that bring a differential with respect to Bitcoin, but this needs to be something that solves real-world problems, and that has the potential to generate real demand.

not sure for RDD because now RDD is only list in the small market like cryptopia and when i see in that site, the volume is not big like when its listed in polo. i don't know why the price is down, if we compare with BCN, its still high than RDD.

I predict a bright future for Nexus (NXS) coin for this year.

I don't think anyone can give you a prediction 2 years +. Crypto scene is so fast that in 1 year a major coin could drop down to #30 on the CMC.

I wouldn't invest long term in crypto.

I think that ZCL (a fork of ZEC), ETC (a fork of ETH) are the copies of the original ZEC and ETH so They has no much highlight in the future and certainly they must be behind ZEC and ETH .

That's right the pump and dump are happening every day. too difficult to predicting the future of maidsafe coin but the clear conclusion if every 4 years the reward of bitcoin will be getting decrease and it will make the price of bitcoin will increase and altcoin will be following it.

Many people are not bothering about because it is always completely same price not changing it's position, as no one is ready to save them people are not more showing any interest toward it. People are not showing any interest to trade it also that why polo is de listing it.

My investments right now are
Factom FCT 45%
Monero XMR 35%
Siacoin SC 10%
Burst BURST 10%

I've managed to make a few dollars selling Factom/ Monero when they peak and re-buying when they dip.
Siacoin and Burst are mainly there as long-shot investments. I'm trying to get 1 million of each coin in the event they become worth something in the $0.10 to $1 range,
because that would be a huge return on my investment.

I feel like all of these are good projects that have long-term potential.
Sometimes I'm not able to do any trading for a couple days at a time so I'm looking to buy, HODL and hope that it pays off a year or two from now.

I also use my signature campaign earnings to buy random cheap coins on Yobit.
Usually I end up holding some coin worth 1 satoshi but every once in a while I hit the lotto and some coin has huge gains.
I made a few dollars selling PUTIN coin this week, for example. Literally picked because I loved the name.  8)

I can see the potential of some cryptocurrencies in the OP, because in addition to BTC, currencies like LTC and XMR are among the currencies with the best technical aspects and the most active communities. However, I don't know why coins like ESP2 and BLK are on the list, what are the differentials of these currencies? It is important to remember that good fundamentals is what attracts big investors.

lol I think Maidsafe have only long term predictions. Doubt anything will happen in 2 years. Lets hope something will at least in 4 years. It is confusing proyect. More I read less i know how they will achieve their goals.

The most interesting coins for me - MAID, LISk, EXP, NXC, XZC, DGB. But i do not wait for quick profit. will check it in some mounth.

And regarding the charts, if you look on Nexus chart which covers last 12 months, you can clearly see that this altcoin is going to show what it is worth. ;)

If you look on charts of other alts, they have usually an opposite direction. :P

I have Never heard for Decred, not even for Nexus so these charts is saying a lot, for 1 year people who hold this coin have made a good ROI and a huge profit if the investment at that time was huge of course, I thought nexus was a phone but the coin called like this seems pretty good saying the truth. Btw where is this coin listed, I don't see it in yobit or poloniex.

I can give you a prediction - or at least provide you with the information I learned about SMC.

Developers of SMC are dedicated to finish their work, they want to implement safetoken and find a way to provide data permanency of the hosted files.
There is good chance it will happen at some point in 2017, but knowing how SMC development was never ending story so far, it might be 2018 or 2019 as well.

I don't have any info about Decred neither, but Nexus is in the game for a quite long time (comparing to other altcoins) - around 4 years already.
Nexus is listed only on Bittrex, the devs continuously try to list it also on Polo, but the volume traded is still not big enough. But if you look on the recent progress, it may change very soon. ;) ;D

things are getting messy again in altcoin market, bitcoin price started going up again and all the altcoins started getting dumped hard! i hate it when it happens but then again it is a good time to pick up the bottoms and make profit on the jump back up.

people are selling altcoins now to buy Bitcoins because BTC is rising, so a most sure profit, but if the price rises enough people will enter the market with new money and will buy altcoins to try and grab better profits

also if the price tanks people will get bored and go to altcoins, so the price will go back to normal

so I expect a recovery if sideways or a big rise happen

Not true for all the altcoin some altcoin are increasing like lbry pascal and decred, only etheruem and zcash and a bunch of other died one are decreasing and dumped to buy bitcoin, lbry got a 4x increase same as decred, it make me wonder why the original poster didn't account for these two coins, i think they look promising and are good investment

A lot of people here talking about a lot of shitcoins.  There are lots of nice ideas out there, but you have to understand that having a nice idea isn't enough to stand out anymore.

What matters is the size and quality of the development team, the serious funding and industry connections and the momentum and network effect are extremely important.  That's why these hundreds of little guys with big ideas are just temporary, only purpose is for traders to pump them and dump them one or two times.

It seems that the scenario is always the same.. every single time. :) Bitcoin goes up, people sell alts and buy more btc and then the alts go down.
But what surprises me, it's that only few people takes the alt price drop as an advantage to buy more on a low price and instead of it, they rather panic sell the rest they have on loss. ???

It depends on the type of the altcoin. If it is the Eth, then it is good to trade.

1) ETH right now is 0.01454 BTC or 16,92$

2) BTC right now is 1175$

3)Monero is 0.01090 BTC or 12.87$

4)BLK is 0.00003091 or 0,036$ (this one like I said had a small pump to 3M marketcap in january)

5) ESP2 is 0.000004$

6) LTC is 0.003256BTC or 3,86$ (returned to previous price, put had a nice pump to 4,20$)

What is your status now,how will you deal in a bear market like we saw today,what are the exact reason for the market to go down,if there any specific reasons for the investors to book profit today.I am pretty new to this whole deal and i really cannot figure out entirely how the market runs .Since we have seen a massive growth in the price of all the alt coins is it possible to see those values again,i just like to hear your opinion.

The present situation is pretty simple, BITCOIN is aiming at 2000$ right now, and everyone know that major alt coin were beeing pumped very high and that can't always go up. So they are now selling for BTC.

My situation right now, I'm at some fresh alts that seems to have good potential and that did not get as massive pump yet. So my major bet is Bitsend for now (BSD) They have about 268 Masternodes running, and each cost 25 000 BSD , so that mean that of the current 14 000 000 (a little more) existing coins, about 6 700 000 are keep under hands that strongly belive in the curency. So that means that if a pump occur, it will jump fast, as there is only a low supply that is trading.

Maybe when the drop in major alts will stop, it will be time to buy back, but today is still unsure, that is why new alts are less prone the be dumped 30-40% down.

For now , I hold 50% in BTC waiting for all of it to settle back.

For this year since from the early 2000s bitcoin has been known for quite some time. However, not all people are capable of investing not only money but trust. The good news is, now is a new era and bitcoin is getting stronger than ever, so I believe it will still prosper.

2018 will be the year where many countries will either make it legal or have some strict control on btc. So it could be a one way either side of upside or may dip if countries start reacting in a negative way for cypto currencies. So I it would be interesting to see the stand taken in 2018 by various countries how it can help or break the btc prices.

Well, we don't know if he has sold before these prices have come and that's already far that these investments of his have come especially for bitcoin, ethereum, and litecoin. OP hasn't been online since 2020 and hopefully, he'll get back on this thread and tell us his story on how he managed to make profits with his investments or does he still holds them. If he does, then, that's really a huge profit that he got in there within 5 years.
