Title: How to launch an altcoin
Post by: tbolt256 on December 19, 2016, 01:34:13 PM
Hey everyone,
I'm relatively new to a forum like bitcoin talk. Apologies if this question is off topic or on a wrong board.

I have recently started development of application based on blockchain. I am working on a new altcoin for the application. I would like to know what is the process to launch it on bitcoin talk. I have seen the announcement board and found a few PRE-ANN altcoins. Can someone please help me by explaining what is the difference between PRE-ANN and ANN? Also how do I go about announcing my own altcoin?

Thanks in advance :)

you first work on the code if you are really looking for developing something useful and contribute, otherwise like others copy and paste!

then when it is ready and tested and bugs fixed, you announce it to the world by making a topic and writing all the information about your coin like the specifications you see on those announcements and also what is new about your altcoin. and release the code so everyone can see, check, peer review, download and start mining at a time that you set.
again you can check those announcements couple of first page to figure this out too.

If I am still working on the code and want people to be aware of my project, how do I put up a post for that? (is that a PRE ANN?)

Yes a pre ann is a good one so people will become aware of your coin, you can modify your coin aftert you got the consensus of bitcointalk members,I hope I will never see the word "ICO" in your pre ann and announcement, people now had a big turn off in this three letters.

You should do a pre ann as recommended by coin investor try to be as transparent as possible, you did not mention if this is a pos or a pow,I only recommend that you do not create a huge supply,a moderate supply of 50 million is good for the future of the coin.

What do you can submit radically new?

I have not done it before but I know it requires more than what have been stated. If you launch one now and you require ICO crowdfund, non of this ones will invest into it. Maybe you should join them at the silicon valley to get better idea of how it works.

Besides announcing your coin you need to spread awareness which can be achieved by signature campaigns in front line of advertising campaign and then face book and twitter for off forum advertising.

You'll need firstly to put away at least 5 bitcoin for doing so.

Best campaign managers that I know of are as follows:

yahoo62278      https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=355846

Lutpin     https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=520313

My team and I have just started conceptualizing and building. We are leaning towards a pow system.

Thanks for your replies, it has been really helpful :)
I shall try to keep everything said above in mind before releasing a PRE ANN. I shall try to keep the entire process, system, and ICO (if there is one) transparent. We are looking for investors in this project.
We are looking to develop an application that would be new and helpful.

PRE-ANN = Introduction of your vision, innovation and the detailed structure of your project.
ANN = Familiarization your project was starting.

Make your Pre- Ann, Distributing about your innovation and vision to make your project and you can continue with your ANN. Simple.

Now a days it is quite easy to launch a coin just copy the script and make some necessary changes get a catchy name and a domain address and spend some money in marketing and creating some hype :D people will invest in it and that is how things work now :D To be frank if you are not having any idea please do not plan on starting one .

It makes no actual difference. It is so annoying to see people talking about "rare" coins and "sub cent" coins, when the difference is 100% psychological.
If someone creates a bitcoin clone with rewards starting at 5x10^101 coins per block (or 5x10^-99 coins per block, to go the other way) and halving every 210000 blocks, it is no different from bitcoin.
I think OP should create a coin with 2^512 coins, just to be different.

I'm sorry to tell you that you cannot post graphics and banners if you are a newbie, you can hire some one to post in your behalf but you can not edit it yourself, you could end paying the guy for every change you'll going to do,much better to increase your level to member rank so you can post graphics and banners to your announcement.

Dear developer I know all about launching a coin(starting a thread and the managing that) but I do not know that how a currency is started/created. If you help me to guide me for running a coin then I will also help you. Please contact me for further discussion.

if you're thinking about a PRE ANN, please, do it when you have something to show us.
most PRE ANN i've seen these days is just something like:

"i'm developing a new coin, wait and see! bitcoin killer app"
and that's all..

I'll try to make the PREANN as informative as possible. Will include the system specs and working. Hopefully will be able to release the whitepaper along with it. If not I will update as soon as possible

Please let me be more "clear" :

The PREANN thread "must" have included these informations in order to be considered as valid :

- Description of the project with all the details.
- Description of the team members, it inculed social accounts, true identity is highly advised.
- Description of the coin's specs, usage, why use, why create this, how will it work.
- If you are going to launch an ICO then you must add :
   - Financial plan.
   - Identity of escrow.
   - Coin distribution.
   - Management of premine.
- Website.
- If possible, github link for the coin's source, or project's source if open sourced.
- Any usefull info about the team, the coin, the project.

Try also to answer to everyone's questions, don't ignore the scam accusators, try to prove your project to be legit, display an understandable roadmap.
With all of this, you may release a successfull preann who will drive some people to the main ann :)

You forgot to include unmoderated thread, your thread should not be moderated so you can accommodate valid question, scam dev usually set it to moderated thread then delete all the negative remarks to make them more attractive to investors.

Yes, as a junior member you will be able to post images, links, images with embed links, a lot of features will be activated but it takes more then 2 weeks to be Jr, as you can only have 14 activity/2Weeks. Keep posting or connecting.

I read about the activity calculation [min(time*14,posts)] but didn't really understand what it meant. What is the time here and how is it calculated

He means that you need to become a Jr Member to post images and links on the forum for launching your announcement thread. So after you complete your 30 posts your account will be upgraded to Jr member and then you will be able for that.

You must make minimum 14 posts for gained your activity point and which mean the point will increase every 2 weeks and you need to make at least 14 posts to get 14 activity at the end of the week two. it's simple.

I have checked his potential activity on account pricer and found that he have the potential activity more than 42 so he is able to reach to junior member. He have to hire a thread designer and have to launch the thread and in the meanwhile when he reach to junior member his thread will appear the pics etc.

To help this you would want to as stated above have the identity of your team shown while being as transparent as possible.

The "good times" to make a new (clone) coin that is relativ successful are in my opinion over.

You will pay more for this coin, that you will make profit (when it is only a new copy coin),
when you didnt have a really nice new idea that can stand out your coin from the others.

if you want launc new altcoin
you only write about your spefication coin in annocument thread
withou pre annoucment is no problem, function pre annocument, only develop community coin user
