Title: Using 'Sweep' for a refund
Post by: grcauto on December 20, 2016, 12:08:21 AM
I had my first refund which requires I sweep it from S**k R**d. I needed to install Electrum to handle the sweep. I have it installed and went to wallet....Sweep and entered the code. It showed the proper bitcoin amount.I did the sweep and It's been 8 hours but my wallet is still empty.
S**k R**d has a submission button that you enter after doing the sweep. I assume I do that AFTER I receive my bitcoins. Do I need to submit that I did the sweep before I get my coins.
Please advise.
Thanks and Merry Christmas...

Did you broadcast the transaction when you sweeped your private key?
Whatever that submit button is, so long as you have the private key you don't need it to sweep bitcoins.  So you should wait till you know what it is or until you get your coins before using it.

Merry Christmas.

Hello again,
When you say "Did you broadcast the transaction when you sweeped your private key?" Is this something I do after the sweep? All I did was to enter the private key and hit sweep.

Does your private key start with 5, K or L?

Electrum will require you to specify an address for the balance from your sweeping address to be sent to. After you have done everything, click sweep. A dialog will pop up and you should see the transaction where the balance gets sweeped to one of your wallet address. Click broadcast and the transaction should appear in your wallet.
