Most sites allow you to reset a password simply by sending an email, and most emails can be reset with a text message sent to the phone on record... Apparently the Augur database that was compromised had the names, emails and phone numbers of early investors. It seems like you should need some other identifying info if you couldnt provide the phones serial number to change the number to a new provider.
