Title: Trouble flashing MSI reference rx 480 to XFX reference rx 480
Post by: kykc221 on December 22, 2016, 06:30:32 PM
AIT win flash returns a "sub system ID mismatch" when I try. Even after copying XFX'x systems ID to MSI's bios, ati win flash returns "cannot flash rom".
How do you flash another vendor's reference bios to another reference card? Please help.

Maybe you stop trying ... you can brick the GPU by flashing bios from another brand

Use -f switch to force flash.

It's a bitch to fix if you mess up.

If you brick the reference GPU you will need to jump pin 1 and 8 on the bios chip to be able to recognise and flash again.

I flashed my nitro by mistake  to a XFX rx 470 and it worked but i flashed it back didn't feel like dealing with issue that might come up later on and all so didn't see why i would need to.

Thanks, I will try this out.

The reason is XFX's bios has some high voltage offsets. It's at 0.9375v compared to 0.8875v for MSI/Asus and uses 25% more power when compared at gpuz at same settings.

Since they are all reference cards, I'm trying to force a lower voltage by using another brand's bios.

I noticed that too , the problem is the memory timings for these new cards are different than the inital batch it seems, you won't brick the cards but they wont work properly
since the video ram is physically different.
