Title: Ideas for selling a PC loaded with Top Altcoin Wallets
Post by: paramind22 on December 23, 2016, 06:43:59 AM
It would be great to take a PC and load it with the BTC wallet and all the major altcoin wallets to resell to the general public.  I wonder how this would do on something like eBay or Craigslist.   At least it would be a curiosity piece of people who had some money to spend on such things.  It could be also a way to get greater public adoption.

I suppose you mean selling the blockchain file right? because it makes no sense to install a wallet and sell it, you have to sync up with the network.

and that doesn't even make much sense to me. because that is all free and anybody can do it themselves by just spending a little bit money (surely less than it would cost to buy what you offer) on bandwidth and download the blockchains.

and besides security wise it is not a good idea to do such thing because a wallet is only safe as long as you are installing it yourself on a safe pc.

Why sell pc with intalled various wallet? Its doesnt make sense to me because you can buy a brandnew computer and intall some wallets later. Also i think the buyer will doubt and will not buy the pc with installed with wallets eventually. Because its not usual. Even me i will not buy one because i want to install the wallet myself. Because we are talking about money here. What if you injected it with malware and dirty shit?

If I am a buyer why would I buy a pc with pre installed wallet when I can do it myself and there's no risk installing it free and beside we all know that anyone can create a back door on a wallet, this will give you red trust if you do it.Better is to give them an e-book or install videos and e-books about crypto currency but never wallet.

It's a good way of getting accused of being a scammer because the people who would buy such a PC are definitely not savvy enough not to download all the viruses and get their coins stolen.

This pretty much.

What you COULD do, would be a live OS, where wallets are preinstalled, that is booted from a USB or external harddrive and which restrains the user from installing anything apart from what is already installed (plus blockchain download and saving addresses, obviously). This way, users would be forced to use it exclusively for cryptocurrency purposes.

You could extend this to being like a netbook, instead of a bootable storage device.

You can do that provided that they are present when you install those wallets and it should come with  the top anti virus and anti malwares I have not seen it offered in Craiglist and Amazon but it's risky in your part if something happen to the users computer, because you don't have a license softwares installed to their pc,they might even sue you for this.

The only reason you want to do this is to create publicity stunt. There is not need to sell whole PC - what really matters is wallet.dat.
So simple data storage like SSD or even Pendrive would be good. The problem is that owner can copy private keys and use it later, there is no way to check that.

Also I don't quite get what you want to achieve here. Propagate general cryptocurrency awareness among non-crypto users?
I would focus on one coin and try to promote it - and definitely start with Bitcoin - it is the safest bet.

i have seen so many strange stuff being sold on the internet that this doesn't surprise me at all, but if i see something like this i will only laugh and would never trust it enough to buy because we are talking about a cryptocurrency wallet and it is not safe. and also these wallets should be updated every minute with new blocks, some altcoins every second so i don't see any point in buying one and also i doubt it contributes at all to public adoption.

Let's assuming it's the second-hand stuff, which means already use by the people before, and like the others said, it can be containing a lot of the problem and it's risky. The people are want to buy your PC caused by the usefulness of it, and nothing for the crypto wallet has already put on that PC.   :D
