I 50% agree with the OP. I think MtGox and other exchanges are fooling themselves to think that a few kids with PCs can compete with the big boys. There should be no day trading except through licensed brokers. In fact, the Bitcoin prices should only be reported by the brokers as well. Let them deal with the brunt of the public interface. Having a website that is open to the public is just a painted target for DDOS attackers. It would be better to have many brokers open to the public and a few exchanges only open to brokers.

Yeah, I know it's weird. I've only had an hour of sleep last night, had to work most of today...and got to watch the drop for ~2 hours from my phone without the ability to sell anything. Talk about a bad day.

I don't even care about today's price trends - I only pay attention to weekly average. I'll decide in a week or two if this was an irrelevant moment of mass hysteria, manipulation, concrete correction, or the beginning of downtrend. Whatever the case may be, fundamentals still seem reasonably solid. Price doubling every few days is not healthy anyway, so I will be glad if we slowed down to allow for the growth and maturing of the infrastructure and legal framework. All is well. I am happy, especially because I snatched a few more coins from panic sellers today. In the long term, I see no reason for Bitcoin to not keep growing. It works, and it is a useful technology. The risks are presently minimal, mostly related to the open-ended questions of mining economics.

the only way I can see to trade this exchange is to sell near the top and put in buy orders to catch the fall, it works for me and most likely this time next week the same will happen again

Relax dude. It still quite high. 100 dollar is a lot, if you think about it. Bitcoin used to be 35 a couple of weeks ago.  That is still an enormous growth.

It is just a correction or something like that. Maybe some big people cashed out. Or people got anxious that it would fall and started selling.

Ok now to the goods...

We got people attacking the community and bitcoin in general via ddos attacks and coordinated bot action !

Example! Ill quote myself from the other thread later but its not hard to see. We have issues outside of the DDOS which is obviously giving the exchanges a hard time!(! Not just mtgox either) 

The issues are a bots making trades under the minimum amount not doubt using high frequency trading algorithms that make purchases a few peanuts at a time !

The effect is they can make purchase via api and custom bots that come in a lot faster than regular traders can purchase.. so the bots just make a load of low price high volume trades(micro trades) and on lookers (noobs) staring at charts that they dont even understand are seeing red arrows pointing downwards and the price per bitcoin falling and they cant even make a trade because of the lag being put on the system because of the DDOS and the BOTS!!

It looks likes the price is tanking and it ensues a panic sell off at which point a crap load of people loose funds ( those people are the new comers whos confidence we need!!) we need onlookers and investors to embrace bitcoin. We dont need people looking at it like a noob slaughter house where you show up and get scammed out of your btc or fiat  money!


So the bots only have to initiate the landslide and the herd just follows like dumb arses!!

A price is nothing but sentiment that represents a balance between what people are willing to pay to buy, and what they are willing to receive to sell.
You say 'a crapload of coins', while I see your list of 0.02 orders in between the real ones of 100+ coins, that's not a crapload. If you put a load of trades in between blocks at 173 and 174, all it does is go from 174 to 173 smoothly, if they weren't there a sale of one coin would just go straight from 174 to 173.

And bitcoin should be a currency, not some kind of speculation vehicle. So it is good, it shrinks a bit, nobody dared to buy it or wanted to use it as currency.  Now you probably get some regression, so bitcoins should grow to his mean value.  The first growth is probably based on luck.
