Title: remove sell orders up to $300
Post by: tutkarz on April 10, 2013, 08:38:08 PM
We as community can act to give a lesson for persons who think they can just come and try to fear us. We just need to remove all sell orders up to $300 so they would have to rebuy they coins for much higher price.

that is a pretty good idea, if you could get enough people agreeing that the next time this happens everyone pulls their asks and lets the market spread huge.

No sell orders from me below $1500, for sure. I'm happy to spend my BTC to obtain quality products from good bitcoin retailers at the right price, though.

At $1,50/mBTC I may do some classic profit taking and buy fiat, but if and only if I actually need the fiat for whatever purpose. By then it might not be necessary, for airlines, accommodation and all kinds of other important stuff will be readily buyable directly with BTC. One can hope!

These violent "noise corrections" are good for bitcoin, but DDoS attacks aren't so flash (no pun intended). Then again, what doesn't kill Bitcoin can only make it stronger, and the weaknesses are in the infrastructure, exchanges and marketplace and not, thankfully, with the Bitcoin protocol, which has shown itself to be pretty robust so far.

If you assume whoever did this sold short or just sold and wanted to buy to cover or just buy their position back, it would push the market right back up and put the DDoSer in a position of covering at a bad price and not making money.

Not littering the book with bids also makes it less attractive to take a dump. Most money around here are not placed in the book for everyone to see anyway.

If you want to stop this kind of thing I recommend you research the principles behind an illegal (on regulated exchanges anyway) "wash trade" and other trader tricks.  http://fadi.el-eter.com/what-is-wash-trading.html (http://fadi.el-eter.com/what-is-wash-trading.html) ;)

How about the IP address you trade from is limited to one trade per hour or some other time limit dependent on the size of the trade?
