I think that people is going to continue selling their alts for BTC when BTC goes up. Im all in on BTC but I hope LTC makes a good pump too but im not gonna risk a single satoshi on no alt. Sure there are always some alts that pump, but like you said, it's a lottery. How the hell are you supposed to guess what alt will pump? It seems that every horse has been already beaten. We got the anonymous coins phase, then the smart contracs phase.. now what's next? For a coin to pump hard it must offer something new. With respect to LTC, it is still too early to call. There is heavy trading volume (even more than Ethereum) indicating real demand from traders. I think this rise will be sustained and we won't see a reversal any time soon.
