is it possible?

a bitcoin node is also a computer with a public IP address and DDoS is (simply put) flooding that link to that computer so it can no longer give service to anything else (deny services) so yeah i believe it should be possible.

why do you ask?

I think it's possible, mostly a UDP flood can be performed on node operators just like the same happened with Bitcoin XT nodes. Also, since a full node with an open port accepting incoming connections, accepts traffic on that port, hence it could still be possible to DDoS that IP on that port. Depending on how the firewall is configured, most DoS attacks can be mitigated. I'm not sure how other forms of DDoS methods work in this situation, I'm also curious to know if a full node not allowing incoming connections is running, then can it still be DDoS'd?

I run a full node on public WiFi. I doubt if a ddos attack would get though the isp firewall. It might get me chucked out of the cafe though. :)

Full node count drops every day, and everyday the risk grows.

Yeah it's possible. Next question is how much money do you have to launch DDOS in bitcoin node?

As low as $10. For a typical home connection, there isn't any filtering which would allow an attack as low as 1GBPS to take it out. A cheap booter would suffice. I made an attack on my VPS with the permission of my host and it was indeed taken out seconds after the attack was launched. Better hosts would of course provide some sort of DDOS protection.

This isn't an issue since there are too many nodes for them to be all down at the same time.

Good question. A single individual who does not have significant amount of money can not launch DDOS attack on Bitcoin Node.
