Title: Why I regret not being a employee of this company.
Post by: Juggy777 on December 27, 2016, 04:48:49 AM
So on a nice Christmas party time, drinks on the house I and my friend were discussing about Bitcoin, he's from the finance field and he generally knows a lot, so I thought I would use my Bitcoin knowledge to surprise him, wish I had not done it lol, so when I told him to invest in Bitcoin, I thought he would ask what it is and he replied he has one free bitcoin already. You can imagine the look, one free bitcoin here collecting satoshi's we hardly reach to a Bitcoin and he already has one. It so happens that the firm where he works decided to give bonus and they decided to give one free bitcoin to the selected staff and they have promised to give more in future that's so cool. You get salary, plus a Bitcoin perks of a employee life....

Well you have been missed chance for free bitcoin (although actually it is not free bitcoins because they are working for the company ) , but you can buy bitcoin on the markets, it is same bitcoins with employee on the company.
I think you don't need regret because of you are not employee on the company and you can use your perks  for buying bitcoins.  :D

What a gift not every employer can give that kind of gift,it's an investment of a lifetime
I'll definitely choose a company which offer Bitcoin as one of their incentives..

How I wish my company will also do the same, the employer knows about Bitcoin
and they want to spread the news about Bitcoin.

If somebody will give me Bitcoin as present I will treat for starbucks coffee..

I don't mean it in literal sense, of course we can buy Bitcoin on the market but the thing here is they are getting a fixed a salary plus on tip being given full Bitcoin that's such a awesome investment and plus with price hike it's always good to have one. If all employers would be doing this, I am sure the Bitcoin world will receive a boost. Though this is a one off incident let's see if if other bosses follow suit. Who knows 2017 may bring more chances like this for every one.

I never heard of any company giving away free bitcoin as tip before so this sound really interesting. However bonus can be any form so if company haven't paid them with bitcoin they should have paid him with fiat so point here will be the positive attitude of company towards bitcoin. I will also love to work in a company like it.. ;)

But actually i am self employed  ;D

How I wish I am part of that company also. It is surprising for a company to do that, maybe the owner of that company has big amounts of bitcoins and he wanted to let his employees experience the wonder of it.  But soon I believe that many companies will pay their employees with bitcoins such as schools accepting bitcoin then labor wage will be in the form of bitcoin also.

The author should not regret telling his friend about bitcoin, if he did not do it then he cannot post this good information to us.

So a company gives away free Bitcoin to certein employees?
Maybe these employees have done some incredible good work over the whole year so that the company decided to give those people an extra bonus?! This is a good thing.Especially when you consider the deflationary effect of Bitcoin and that 1BTC they got might be much more worth in the future.

I am a bit curious how can a company give free bitcoin, does your company involved in bitcoin business, it is really rare that a company could give the employee bitcoin, how if the employee doesn't know what is bitcoin, what will the company do? will the company exchange it to fiat and give it to the employee? I personally thinks giving your employee a bitcoin is not a good idea

Your question answer has already been written in my post, it's a financial company and its very big, I can't name it though. Of course they and their employees do know about Bitcoin and they were asked to choose between Fiat and Bitcoin all opted for Bitcoin. I don't know but why would it be a bad idea, the value shall rise, the employee shall be more happier to work hard. More people will come to Bitcoin. So explain why it's not a good idea.

These free Bitcoins are probably some kind of bonus for their employees at the end of the year. For some reason they have decided to pay this bonus in Bitcoin not in fiat. Maybe they are involved in Bitcoin business or it was easier this way for them because of taxes. At the moment this is very good because the price is high and they will decide whether to keep or sell this bonus.

I would like to receive a bonus this way, to have a bitcoin at the end of the year. I am pretty sure the company compensate this employee because he surely did a nice work the entire year and get recompensate with 1 bitcoin ;)

Normally, companies give bonus with fiat money that you need to pay tax on it.

It just makes sense for companies involved in Bitcoin to do so, doesn't seem to be that strange to me.
A lot of companies give their employees bonuses in one way or another, it isn't always cash.

how lucky your friend is. well the company should have a lots of bitcoin to be given to their employees. or they accept bitcoin. whatever it is, they have give free one bitcoin.

well you do not have to regret. you can send CV or some documents to get a job on that company and work the best you can to get one bitcoin too.

Well the company has a lot of fiat, not bitcoin imo. Its not that hard to exchange their fiat to bitcoin.

You dont need to do that complicated thing to just get one bitcoin. Just get a job from any company, and work hard to get attention from your boss. If your boss happy, you will get your bonus. Want to get it in bitcoin? Exchange it yourself.

The Company is not involved in Bitcoin. The OP's friend works in the finance field.
The OP thought he would surprise his friend with his knowledge about Bitcoin.
It is the equivalent of a bonus, but I do think it is a nice thoughtful gesture by his friend's employer.

Well, I don't think it is really neccessary to work for this particular employer to get a bitcoin ;D, there is many other ways how to get some.
The good point about the story is, that it shows that bitcoin starts to be noticed by a wider public and that it is also seen as a good bonus with a value or a good investment. 8)

That's actually kind of fascinating, never thought that there would be a company that would do things like that and offer perks like that.

But, when you think about it, $924 (right now) isn't much to a company for a perk, and considering that it's a financial company, chances are there are a ton of opportunities for something like this within their business model.

Brilliant idea when you consider it from the business' point of view.

So the firm gave away around $900 as a bonus for a selected staff. That is one of the biggest bonus I heard of a company. I will assumed it only at once right for maybe once a year or something like that? You know you can have lots of bitcoin for a year but of course a bonus like that is really a big factor.

Anyways let's point with the "future" promised of that firm so still you can take advantage of that than being regret. Pack all your needs then apply to that firm now. :)

They not free coins.

The company was going to give them a cash bonus but then they probably decided that giving it as bitcoins is a cool idea. Of course it doesn't make it a bad act it just like giving euro's instead of dollars. Have they guessed that bitcoin will rise to 900$+ or not isn't important. What matters is that do the employees trust bitcoin? Looks like your friend trusted bitcoin and didn't cash out immediately after having one. Bingo.

There are better things a company can offer than BTC, since BTC can be bought easily from exchanges but it is nice of the manager to offer BTC bonus to his employees.

http://time.com/money/4607055/workers-holiday-bonuses/

Banking associates - $100 000 Christmas bonus
Surgeons - $60 000 Christmas bonus
Radiologists - $47 500 Christmas bonus
Investment-banking analysts - $45 000
Medical directors - $40 000

Quote
In terms of careers, energy and mining in general provided the most lucrative bonuses for all employees, averaging about $10,000. It was followed by hardware and networking, which gave workers about $9,000 in extra cash at the end of the year, and software and IT services, which gave about an $8,000 bump.

Spend less time here and invest more time advancing your career and eventually you will get there one day  ;D

That's a pretty cool bonus format, even with a standard company bonus you could just buy a bitcoin but nice to know a company in the finance sector is doing things like this.

Upon hearing the story, I will assumed that OP's friend only knows the idea of bitcoin not that much. Because he got it from the company bonus so cashing it out will takes more days in process since they didn't know where will it be exchanged. Since it was told to the OP, I will assumed again that OP makes some view pointing to the current price of bitcoin so he makes some advices not to cash it out.

By the way to the OP, how your friend received the bitcoin from the said firm?

This s a good incentive, atleast i do see those as incentive, and the company is taking a good step allowing their employers to know about crypto currencies, and in the future they can get a huge ammount instead those small bonus, since bitcoin potencial its huge.

Well I have clearly written that as a bonus he received it and the firm has always been keen to give high rewards and around 100 were given as a trial. They have good knowledge of Bitcoin it's a finance company, they always keep update with the current revolutions for their clients and all. No I did not advice him, indeed he had told me two weeks back btc would cross 945 before year end and today it did. There's a good story of a frog living in a well thinking that's the only world, but sadly there is a outside world he did not see. You can't just rely on your thoughts, you need to be in the open to see what could be other aspects.

That was actually nice for the company to give the bonus in bitcoin. Aside from introducing the employee to btc, the employee already have the option to cash out or hold on to that coin. Had they received the bonus in fiat, it's possible they wouldn't have converted it.

Yes any company that gave around 100 employees a btc is generous according to me, this was just one of the bonus they get more as per their work. So isn't it generous and oh trust me the company value is huge more than one can even think of.

you mean a gift of bitcoin and working for bitcoin are not different?. The company can also decide to give him $1000 or £1000 by next year that doesn't reduced services or goods exchange for penny or cent. You have to view bitcoin as money if not we would always find it difficult to explain to those ignorant in it.

The company gave them the option of having Fiat or a Bitcoin. And they see it as a currency only what else would you see Bitcoin as. All took Bitcoin only and they have made a smart move. Though yet not many companies do it. But it will be fun to see if this trend picks up. 2017 could be something more for all of us and the Bitcoin in particular let's hope for the best.

it's ridiculous that you've expected that he's not aware about bitcoin and you thought that he'd asking what's bitcoin when you talk about it with him ;D and well it's really great that there's a company which giving a bitcoin as a bonus for their employee . I haven't heard some thing like this but it's really great and it would be very great if many companies will do the same that they will give you a bonus either fiat or bitcoin .

Wow, I understand how you feel because thats what I would even for me for the past few months in which I have been involved in Bitcoin, I have not even made a quarter of that and that is what someone is getting free, then I envy that firm and I actually will want to be in a place of such. However, it still depends on the country as well because over here the bonus will rather come in Fiat and not Btc because I am not sure any firm can take such step at this time.

Yes any company that gave around 100 employees a btc is generous according to me, this was just one of the bonus they get more as per their work. So isn't it generous and oh trust me the company value is huge more than one can even think of.
Imo, 1 btc is likely same amount with 1 month salary in rich countries or around 2 months salary in third world countries. So, if that 1 btc is his annual bonus, then that amount is not big imo, especially when you saying that company value is huge. I know your point is that company trying to introduce the bitcoin to its employees, but it doesnt mean the company is generous by doing that.

If my company offered me a bonus in bitcoin i'll be happy cause it's value obviously will increase from time to time. In other hand offering bitcoin as bounus for their costumers will cause more people know about it, i know i could purchase 1 bitcoin with my own money but it's awesome when you  received your salary plus bonus in bitcoin, but it's kinda impossible due to the company that i work for is not finance related i truly believe i am the only one who used bitcoin here.
So does he spend them or hold them?

If that would not be some financial institution it might be weird. But no. Its not weird . Its very cheap way of marketing bitcoin from peer to peer. We are close the bubble guys. All confirmed.

As @OP said his friend is working in a financial company. So it is not strange give to them as a bonus 1 Btc. Maybe company has bought bitcoins long time ago when price was low. Therefore is a very good Christmas present or bonus give to them 1 btc per employee without a big cost for company. Maybe company wants to evaluate the judgement of its employees and want to see who will exchange it right now or will keep it.

It is true I mean of many people who have heard of bitcoin recently and wanted to invest in it just got some money and bought it , and it is really not that hard if you do have the money for it , so you could just save some of your salary every month until you could afford it , that is what I did , you don’t have to change your job or anything.

On the contrary, it is strange. Bitcoins aren't that popular, most people still treat it as a novelty, a geek's collectible, hacker's money. I haven't heard of non-bitcoin companies to use it as payment for their employees. I wish OP would disclose the name of the company.

This is just the 21 century version of something that my father told me it happen on the past, my father told me that decades ago his boss used to give him as a gift silver coins, now those that remember things like that will probably give bitcoin, litecoins or monero.
