Title: Help required
Post by: strandtiger on April 11, 2013, 04:29:57 PM
Dear Bitcoin-proīs,

I really need your help please...
In 2011 I bought some bitcoins via MtGox, I think. After transferring the money via Pay Pal, I received some bitcoins at my account.
Since then I changed my laptop and nearly forgot about them. Recently I thought about them and am wondering how I may find them / recover them???
I downloaded Bitcoin Qt and waited 2 days (slow internet connection) until my account was synchronized.. The wallet is empty... I still have the code I noted when receiving the bitcoins in 2011...
As you see, I am not the pc-crack nor very comfortable with the bitcoin handling...
How may I recover (and sell) my bitcoins??
Itīs not a huge amount, nor am I rich ... As we need the cash, I love selling them now, but I just donīt know how??

THX for any help!!

P.S. I think I received some 12 or 13 Bitcoins then...

RG

When you first bought your Bitcoins, did you download a client and send the Bitcoins you bought from Mt. Gox to your local wallet? If not, they're still in your Mt. Gox account. In that case, all you need to do is find your old Mt. Gox login info.

If you did send them to a wallet you installed locally, I'm afraid the only way to get them back is to find that original wallet.

i dont know how mt.gox looked like in 2011 but im guessing they had the same system.  Did you ever transfer the Bitcoins from your mt.gox account?  If you did transfer them to your own wallet and you dont have acces to that wallet or the wallet key then im sorry to say that they are pretty much lost.  If you didnt transfer them from your mt.gox account then hopefully they should still be there if you remeber the account name and password.
