Title: Microsoft Excel supporting Bitcoin !
Post by: OmegaStarScream on January 02, 2017, 07:25:21 AM
Microsoft is working on BitCoin format support in Excel. When this feature becomes available, users can use Excel to track, calculate and analyze Bitcoin data using native Bitcoin number formatting options. This new feature will be first rolled out to Excel 2016 for Windows, Excel Online, Excel Mobile for Windows and Excel Mobile for Android.

This feature is expected to be available in the first half of 2017, both cointelegraph and MSPowerUser talked about this.

Interesting for sure ! It still needs to be clearer what will be the Bitcoin data, but I guess that if they put the the Bitcoin symbol (BTC) beside the dollar ($) sign, that'll be great passive advertisement.

I'm wondering how Its going to be as well , I mean bitcoin could be decimal , I'm not sure even sure why there are going to add it as something else specific to bitcoin only. If its good , hopefully they add it to both their Word and Access as well.

As I was talking already 2017 year is going to be the best year in all bitcoin's history. Now more and more big firms and corporations will admit bitcoin as technology and/or as money. And such giant as Microsoft will spread bitcoin even faster.

For Microsoft to implement the bitcoin symbol into the spreadsheet that is a wonderful moment for the history. They should have study for a long time before to consider to add this feature, with the increase of popularity of the currency lately, is natural to add it ;)

In 2017 it would be possible for me to do my bitcoin compatibility in Excel :)

I still don't understand how it's going to work. What's the need of it? Well, I'm just a user of Bitcoin and not the technical part of it.  I hope I can understand it in the future.

it is just a formating option, for example when you click on the currency sign it sets a specific formatting to the number (in this case the system's currency sign + ',' for thousands + 2 decimal)

the same thing will be set for bitcoin meaning (bitcoin sign + ',' for thousands + 8 decimal) and i hope they don't go crazy with ISO symbol XBT instead of BTC i hate that :D

p.s. the best thing about this news is that Microsoft is calling bitcoin a currency

I don't know about what affect this will have on the price if any at all but it can only be a good thing. Microsoft wouldn't bother if they didn't think bitcoin was going to continue developing & gaining more adoption.

Woah it feels so great to hear these kinds of news, especially when those big companies like Microsoft starting to realise the important and potential of bitcoin and accept it. It looks like that bitcoin is making huge changes in people's view of point, at least for those CEOs and this will surely stimulate the spirit of using cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.

Microsoft excel getting the bitcoin symbol looks like a part of bitcoin acceptance by the big corporate. This initiation help more others to start using bitcoin symbol into their applications, which helps in the spreading of bitcoin. I believe the first comer will benefit high, likewise Microsoft surely benefits high with bitcoin in the falling years.

I hope microsoft will launch the new feature as soon as possible. I am looking forward to using it.

Not a surprise, Microsoft accepts Bitcoin payments too. I was able to buy stuff for Xbox with my wallet a while ago. Now I regret it because the price rose very fast up, but it was my first transaction I had completed. Adding Bitcoin to Excel is good, especially for businesses and analysts. I tried to make a spreadsheet in Excel and it was a pain to try to make it work by my own. When using satoshis, it always gave me errors.

Crypto currencies are now a part of our financial systems and Bitcoin is the Crypto currency that are being supported the most. The BTC

symbol will become mainstream next to other payment options soon, so Microsoft is going where adoption is going. It is a sound decision to

take the technology that started all this and incorporating it into their financial software.  ;D

next step is Google Adsense introducing bitcoin payments :)

Finally they're recognizing it. Really nice to see BTC there along with all the other currency symbols. Seems Microsoft has been accepting btc from years ago but this official recognition is going to be big. It maybe just be the BTC symbol but soon we'd be seeing it everywhere and the public would recognize it as a legit currency and not just some token for shady transactions online. And to boot BTC just exceeded $1000!

I think that I might actually decide to go and buy office for one of the first times in my life, to be honest. Considering they're opening up different payment plans and their software is actually very good for its purpose (especially excel), it might be worth the investment.

I might need to get some books on how to best use Excel, but there might be some good resources online. I don't have much of a use for word or powerpoint though.

That's exactly what we need to. If a company decides to accept bitcoin as payment, we need to show support and buy those products versus shopping somewhere else and using fiat.

yes by showing our support will allow more people to use the process i guess its another good update for all of us who believes on this project bitcoin is an easy transaction so they just need to know about how convenient it is then for sure many shoppers will also use this transaction process, glad to see microsoft excel then many more to come.

I doubt that Google Adsense will do that , Google never spoke about bitcoin and never showed the intention of adding it in the future and chances are very low , I mean they didn't even add PayPal which is considered probably the most used payment method so I doubt they will add BTC or any other decentralized crypto currency.

On the other hand, Google or as we know Alphabet, yet needs to know about BTC

Doesn't matter if it doesn't get featured. Maybe out of a hundred people, 1-2 will talk about it to someone but it isn't published anywhere. If we want more people to join our community, we need advertisements. An anonymous said he'll invest $1.000.000 in Bitcoin, but nobody knows whether he was for real or not - I don't have the link anymore.

Not much is said in the article but what I get from it is there will be a format dedicated for bitcoin. Even if excel will allow to format number to show BTC on numbers, I think this does not have much effect on people who is still not familiar with bitcoin. It will not draw in new members but is still a welcome change. Software company recognizing bitcoin is a positive development. Thank you Microsoft.

Microsoft has started showing in bitcoins and its a tremendous improvement in bitcoin progress.Microsoft has understood about the worth bitcoin has and thats why it has adapted its policy in favour of bitcoins. Both would be mutually benefited, bitcoin would start getting more popular and microsoft would get more bitcoin users as customers.

thats why I put a smiley there-Google won't be interested in adding bitcoin ...unless it brings them huge profits or there is a high demand for this and they
would not be able to ignore it anymore
but we all can dream, with further adoption it is possible even if not this or next year, somewhere 2020ish
every industry giant adding bitcoin is a big step towards global bitcoin recognition as an alternative to banks and fiat money

Its all Bitcoin ever need, big companies to start recognising it. More and more people get involved, more will bitcoin be worth.

I think we passed times when people thought its a big scam, sure there are still people who think that way, but bitcoin grew much. Not only in value, but in all other things such as media and people talking about it.

This is an interesting news for financial analysts and its also good that the popularity of bitcoin is actually getting the people or organizations that matter. With my little knowledge of Excel which to my understanding, is more or less the basis of all financial models and experts around the world believes so, then this new feature will even get audience among the analysts that will arose another discussion in that regard. Good news all the way...
