 I've had a dream the last couple of years...it seemed never to happen...and was slow coming...but it is damn close now imho.

   (1) I wanted in the mythical 'someday' to have Bitcoin go over that All Time High of $1226 mt.gox. (correct me if that is incorrect).

   (2) I then wanted that ATH to become the new floor. (Never to be broken). And putter around that figure or above from then on.

This imho would be the sign that Bitcoin had beat the doubters/skeptics/scammers and FUD tossers about how BTC was gonna fail.
or hell at least put a crimp in their noise on such.

AT that point in time. (assuming volume and adoption continue ..even if modestly) the mt. gox and pump and dump (not mt. gox as a pump and dump specific but I mean the FUD folk
who claim that is the last pump and from now on eventually BTC will dump to zero. Generic type use of such. ..)

.anyway all them FUD claims would
fade and BTC could become ...well ...ho hum......as boring as talking about usd circulation and its valuation of the euro...

BTC would be what it needs to be a 'tool' the 'internet of money' tool it was meant to be and people could talk NOW about the
future of BTC and crypto rather then dwell on the crash and burn of the past.

Anyway, just a pondering...take the poll.....but for us that have held BTC since 2013 or before...I feel less like the last man
standing in a pick/choose for stickball right now :)

If you don't want to fuel "mtgox pump and dump claims", then maybe you should cite the Gox ATH, which was $1226. There was never any evidence that Mt Gox perpetrated a pump and dump, now or then.

well, the thing is that i believe these FUDs and all that crap about bitcoin is dead or dying and.... will not end for the foreseeable future. and it goes both ways the hype will never end either.

for example for the past year the price has been rising with a nice and logical pace with enough time between each price point and all that time you could see a different FUD about bitcoin falling down to $200 or someone else hyping about bitcoin going to $50,000 and both are stupid.

and i don't see them changing, there will always be idiots who try to spread these things with some weird hope to shift market in their own favor.

and as to pump and dump was using the more generic FUD term for what folk thought was gonna happen with BTC that was the last pump and it would just dump to nothing

I agree but damn it would be nice to slap down some of them using the ATH as 'proof' it can never be reached again as part of the FUD movement.

I definately want the same, but for the bitcoin to take the previous ATH as the new floor, that is quite a long shot.

If you look how far it retraced after the last ATH, it needs to go to around 5-6k for it to be able to settle at 1200 afterwards.

Do you think price can dump that huge if it can reach 5-6k  ??? I don't think situation is same like before as right now adoption have increased a lot as well as i think it will be hard for whales to manipulate price now on.

So if price can cross $1500 within current price surge, we may see 1200 as floor.

I have also voted for To stop/slow all the FUD on BTC. we need ATH price or even higher price as new floor.

There's a significant amount of psychology influencing price discovery in currencies, especially a technology based currency like this one. We've seen price corrections of that kind of magnitude (and more) in response to previous ATH's, so there's no reason to believe it couldn't happen again.

I think the biggest psychological barrier was 1000, because 1000 is a round perfect number and people tend to dump when you get near that figure. But with bitcoin, we are looking at 1025 in Bitstamp right now... the bullish sentiment is still strong, and we are no doubt heading for a new ATH now, which I predict it's going to fuel another round for the rally. At this point, nobody can tell when this rally will end, 1500 or 15000... anybody claiming to have the answers is lying, we can only speculate, but yes, clearing out the latest ATH would also clear out all the FUDsters.

The next step is 1000€ surely. It is already at an all time high in Euro, so it has never been 1000€ per bitcoin.
Then I see Gold parity and a new USD all time high as the next steps.

After a 40% rise in a month, it might be premature to expect a floor at a higher price than we now have, but all price increases are welcome by me!

Yeah..i mean they will still toss about about FUD etc from that point on ...after ATH is breached..but damn would be nice not to have that tossed in our
face...I mean that was the high for me...i mined in 2013 oct 18th price was $150 btc even ..then ATH then down to 250 was it? ugly...

so for me they can FUD all they want and be bears all they want someplace at say a $1500 usd floor from then all up..and I will just smile and be ok with it

I think people pay attention to USD only, or at least that is still the global indicator. Sure, a lot of people look for the yuan when trying to establish a price, but dollar is still king, and I agree that once we hit 1000 euro this rocket will refueled even more, but in order to reach what OP is talking about, we need a new ATH to shut those damn FUD trolls once and for all. They will never recover after we hit a new ATH.

topics like this are good. they may help people understand past all the drama circling bitcoin.

and i agree the price rise and breaking the ATH can help with it, maybe some of these newbies stop listening to all the FUD whales spread about bitcoin and stop panic selling. somebody has to show them who they are selling their coins to at times like this.

Wait couple more years and this two points will become reality 100%. This ATH to become floor needs around 7-10 years by me. So a little more waiting time but you are good at it already, you will make it there :)

It will not take that much time. Soon the psychology will reverse and people will start precieving anything under $1000 as a buy, we just need a period of a couple of months above $1000 to make this statement. Everytime we go under $1000, it will be bought back quick by long term holders that just keep buying every dip. People will try to short and lose their shit as it never goes below that. We are aiming towards 3xxx+ this year.

I just want to see a new ATH because it'll be real unlike the previous ATH which was heavily manipulated by MtGox.
It'll almost feel like bitcoin being reborn, bullish wise any way.

We retraced that much because that very steep last rise was a crazy, scary bubble!!!
And after that bubble had popped the market overreacted and traders of course tried to take advange of that!That's why we had to have such a long breathe before moving up again.
This time it is bit different.At least so far!
There was no bubbling until now!However that might happen when we break the actual ATH!

i may be wrong but i have a feeling that the FUD is no longer having the same effect as a year ago for example. when you keep seeing the same thing and panic 10 times then realize it was a lie the 11th time you know it is bullshit and this has happened 1000s of times.

You cannot count that BS price on Mt Gox when they were ALREADY insolvent and did not payout $$ withdrawals, hence btc price on that exchange was constantly $100 higher since smart people were converting all fiat currencies on MtGox to btc, then withdrawing btc.

contrarian view: the FUD is good.

It allows accumulation. It stops bitcoin expanding too quickly. It lets it sneak under the radar, hashpower grows, network security grows. Harder to destroy.

FUD is a filter that gradually fails. People start to slip through the cracks and the bit economy slowly builds.

The last 4 years have been hard but maybe good for the long run?

As someone mentioned, the FUD and hype will always exist. I have actually grown to like and enjoy the fud because the fud is a good indicator of how well bitcoin is doing. When I see and hear fud, I know all is well. When the fud dies down is when I would get worried.

Anyways, what I really want for bitcoin price eventually is sustained gold parity or higher. Not just to troll or trigger all the goldbugs, but because it will force everyone, including all the naysayers, to at least recognize that bitcoin is legit whether they want to admit it or not.

It is hard to determine when exactly Mt.Gox become completely insolvent and from which point we should assume Bitcoin's high price was totally caused by their faulty system.
Hence, for the time being - lets accept that $1242 as ATH for future reference.

The CNY price at the moment reminds me a bit of Mt Gox prices. Bitcoin costs more than $100 more (equivalent) in CNY than in USD, that's pretty weird.

I don't like the ATH being quoted as less than $1200, as I distinctly remember it being higher than that. Ok the price wasn't fair back then, but the price on Stamp at the time also wasn't a true price, it was just following Gox.

I get the idea this discussion will be history in the next day or 2 anyway. The new ATH in USD will be upon us in the next regardless which price you use.

Sometimes the big difference implies China thinks there is a coming Yuan devaluation.

No way, it is illegitimate as an established price point, therefore $1163 or whatever on bitstamp is fine..and huobi price is a faker too, whatever this means.

No need to thank me...I sold out at $1154 usd about 3.6 BTC to pay off the last of my KNC Liquidation Titans from the summer.
(6 of them) took out 11.4k home equity loan on the fact they would pay themselves back...boy was I right :)

Had to do it....I remember I COULD HAVE gotten my 2013 nov original Neptune (that I switched to a KNC Titan in Feb 2015
due to fears on the Neptune having NO lifetime...was right 5 month lifetime as a btc miner vs an ltc miner) ..from knc for like 13 btc at the last ATH and paid cash instead
ouch.....so fear of looking like an ass if it dumps back to a reasonable (or at least last month in my view) price of say 900 usd...it was $10,131.80...sooooo painful even now :(

took 3.6% of my btc hoard and ran ran like the wind *hey it is like comfort junk food..sometimes you just want to cuddle/fondle your BTC) :)

kinda cool send someone 1k and it was 0.86 btc or some such...much much nicer than Jan 1st 2016 don't ya know

I guess my next panic sale to cover my butt and 'closet monster' fears will be around the $1,650 btc price...hell the way that is going we could be there

The $1242 price is not a good indication as that is from the Mt Gox.

and besides in my experience it really doesn't matter what the bitcoin price is, they will continue to spread their FUD around here.

right now it is only a matter of time before kuwakduck makes a new topic saying "bitcoin is flawed and will dump to $100" just like he has been saying with his main and alt accounts for the past years.

Think about he situation with a psychological approach, because the market is all about psychologically at the end of the day.

The situation is excellent: Bitcoin proved that it can recover from literal death. It crashed like 90%, and now it's back stronger than ever.

This tell us that now people KNOW that bitcoin can recover no matter how low it goes, which means FOMO will kick in quickly on every dip or small crash, which means, there will never be huge crashes again because they will keep getting bought.

Bitcoin has proven to be an unique asset that simply refuses to die.

As obvious as it sounds I want a new ATH because I want there to be huge news coverage on it that bitcoins have bounced back, it's been a steady increase this time and come on in investors! That's what I'm looking forward to.

Well I really do want the new all time high if it will be touched to be the new floor. I would really want that since every time I receive payment from someone that was based not on fiat value but the promised amount of BTC that they will pay, I will receive more money and also I know there would be more new investors that will get into bitcoin if the new all time high would be the new floor.

One thing is to incidentally break the ATH level (which I still consider quite a feat, taking into the current status of the development and adoption), but to establish it as a new floor is a completely different ball game. Incidental humongous pump may happen, it may even happen even twice in four year span as we witness it, but that is it, at least in the current state of the adoption and development. I know it sounds exciting, but take a look at the charts what happened in the Mt. Gox aftermath. It is pure physics, what goes up may fall down equally well.

the gox price was bullshit. it's still bullshit. if it makes people happy then let's go for it but it's not a figure i think is very important. anyone citing it as the all time high can't be bothered to do their research.

I agree that price at volume indicator has much more context, rather than one off transaction that simply paints the chart. But the fact is also that after three years we returned to the uncharted territories (or are very close to it). That is an amazing achievement. Now, let's see what the aftermath would be. Still, judging by how we held above $800, I guess we won't go that low as we went from the Mt. Gox's peak.

The price reached more than $1240 in some exchanges. I think it is sustainable.

No, no. The greatest thing about derpduck is that the floors of his dump predictions keep getting higher. One day he'll be saying the failures of bitcoin will cause the price to crash to $1100. Maybe even $3000 one day LOL.

He has no more credibility than Professor Bitcorn, who predicted that BTC will crash to $10.
The more time Bitcoin stays above $1242, the stronger the floor at that level becomes.
