Title: Is Zcash mining heading towards centralization?
Post by: Cavin.Me on January 04, 2017, 04:20:58 PM
Ace Zcash mining farm https://www.Zcash-Miner.com has declared the introduction of FPGA based Equihash mining on January 1, 2017.

https://twitter.com/ZcashMiner/status/815512912546541568

No other player has achieved this so far, while Zcash-Miner.com has massively slashed cost of their solve rate.

100 Sol/s @ 0.05 BTC for One Year

Do you think, the unavailability of FPGA to the common public will lead to mining centralization of Zcash network?

Cloud mining services are bigger scams than ICOs.

Basically their offer has a 21 day ROI. People would have to be ridiculously greedy/dumb to believe someone would sell such a profitable opportunity instead of keeping for themselves.

I've seen that script used by at least 10 "cloud-mining" websites. Just change your name, your ROI and thats it ! New cloud mining every day. Don't even bother looking at them. Average ROI now would be about 6 months, if anyone is offering you ROI of like 1-2 months it's a scam.

The bigger problem is the Trusted Setup:

Also note the comments at the bottom of both pages and how the devs are very sketchy in their "answers."

I think, as Zcash price is stabilizing around 50 USD, more companies will start looking for ways to build FPGA.

The whole ZCash launch and price manipulation from the start was sketchy, centralization means market manipulation which means bowing down to your whale market overlords

Coindesk has published an article, speaking positively about Zcash - http://www.coindesk.com/zcrash-zcashs-price-finding-floor/

This is a free market and some people will try their best to try to monopolise the market, mining depends on the level of capital and access to mining equipment you have, so anyone is allowed to try their luck to maximise profit especial when Zcash mining is still profitable to mine

Coindesk is invested in Zcash. At least they print this disclaimer at the bottom of every article they churn out on Zcash (seems like every other day):

"Disclosure: CoinDesk is a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, which has an ownership stake in the Zcash development team."

So, they are definitely biased "news."

OP predicts centralization due to the invention of FPGA to solve Equihash.
