the year of 2016 was fairly full of exciting news in the cryptocurrency world and We have seen many continued blockchain innovation,
the steady growth of Bitcoin and increasing global acceptance of the currency and Of course That's not all we clould see but 2017 is just beginning.
It's going to be an exciting year and yes, Bitcoin has done a surprised wonder passing over 1,100$ at the time I'm writing this thread.

The big question will be, if we can scale quickly enough with the current code to accommodate for mainstream adoption. We have been fighting

about Block sizes and scaling solutions for most of 2016, and it is time for us to tackle this problem together. You can decide to scale

conservatively and in the process cause frustration with slow confirmations { if this goes mainstream } or you could scale aggressively and

then run the risk of opening new attack vectors.  ??? To Big block or not, will become a forced decision at the rate we are going now.  ::)

The solution is leaving Bitcoin alone, and letting the free-market decide on Transaction Fees. This will give room for micro-wallet services for dust transactions, coffee purchases, etc. while keeping the fees in the hands of the miners.

Having 1 million unconfirmed transactions won't crash the network. Changing the structure of Bitcoin like Block size, segwit for malleability and all that nonsense just complicates things and opens the doors for problems.

And to answer the OP's question, yes 2017 looks to be a great year for Bitcoin.

The price grow so fast o think, it's even reach more than I expected, yes this year is a bitcoin shine but the problem is how bitcoin survive?


That's the biggest dilemma for bitcoin nowadays, it's feels for me, especially the transaction goes to slow even have more time to confirmed (my experience over 1 hours, using default fees from my wallet), unless put more fees/any factors which to add more priority.

Yes, That is the year of bitcoin. You can see the price over 1,100$ and it can reach 1,350$ in this month.

I think in the next bitcoin summit will be organized in USA. Maybe they will have more new technologies for processing this problem.
So the year of 2017 will be real bitcoin year.

We broke the 1100 and now going to 1200, this year is ideal for Bicoin users around the globe, a new record indeed.
Once the price goes higher and higher, global acceptance of this digital money becomes broad so possibilities that it will increase for some good reason.

I'm always very cautious when it comes to the price of Bitcoin, but that's probably because I view things very short-term rather than the long game.

The recent surge in BTC price left me constantly saying "it is gonna tank again", sure enough it did but only to recover as the trend continues.

Will be interesting to see where things go now and what effect (if any) it has on some of the more popular altcoins.

The start of the 2017 is good. But if the price rise is lower than 20% per month, that is even better.

It will certainly be a great year for big coin! 4 days already appreciated 20%, lol. Thanks to Chinese who try to smuggle their currency out, now it has a restriction, so bitcoin is the best choice for them to move money around.

Yeah. I think it will be a golden year for bitcoin. We are almost hit the all time high at this monment. So reaching for new all time is possible anytime soon. We are at January and look at the price. Theres more month to come. Just wait and see what will happen to bitcoin this year.

If you bought at 400 and then sell at 1000 then you are not going to go broke because of it in fact you had nice profits but there is the possibility bitcoin reaches way greater highs and you could lose the opportunity to be there and get those earnings too if you sell too soon.

Every year I see such topics - "20xx is a year of bitcoin"
I believe that this year can be good for bitcoin. Offcourse not such good as 2016, but if bitcoin will reach $1500, I would be really happy.
But I also have bad scenario in my mind, that bitcoin price can drop, because it can't be everything such good as last year was.

Let's just wait that no bad news will spoil this hot streak of performance of bitcoin. With this good start yes we might see that bitcoin will be more great this year. Developments and events happen in 2016 are the based source why we are seeing bitcoin today as this.

Just remember that anytime from now this price increase will stop. No way it will just forward without a drop. When I say "drop" it's not that much since status of bitcoin today is really different in the past where huge drop is always expected once there is a bigtime price increase.

i only sleep few hours today and very surprise because the price jump with very fast and already through $1100 indeed if see the current price looks like 2017 will be the golden era for bitcoin but the questions is could this situation would last long or at least the price would stable after reach new ATH and i don't know why i was fear this is only pure market manipulate because there will be huge dump after this

we are moving forward. and each year is a better year than the last (even those years in the past that price was going down) but obviously the price rise is helping the publicity and a big attention. although you may argue that the price rise is attracting more speculators and you would be right to say that. but eventually all this will also lead to more real adoption and more usage of bitcoin in services and by merchants too.

Yes, I agree with you. It must be like this. as you know the price has surpassed 1,100$ and now it continues to grow up .
Anyone can predict if how much the bitcoin price is ? I say it will be 1,800$ in this year.

I am really happy about the price jump of Bitcoin but I don't know whether it is going to last a while. last time the price went up this high, it crashed to a very low amount in the next couple of days. Hopefully 2017 really is the golden year of Bitcoin.

I think 2017 and also the coming years will be the years of Bitcoin.At this time Bitcoin already has passed over $1150.I knew that Bitcoin is strong ,but I would never imagined that within 40 days his value will rise from $790 to $1150.I am expecting some drops around Bitcoins value in the next months, but I think it will be stabilized at $1200.Although everything is possible...Happy new Year Bitcoin!:)

Yes, but after a big bump usually follows big dump too. Is there anyone who knows what would be happen if the Chinese government decide to follow another policy. All of these Chinese citizens had purchased bitcoin do they suddenly love bitcoins or they want a way to send their money out of China's borders? what will do ? Are they going to keep them or convert them to fiat? If the latter happens then what would happen with the sales of bitcoin? Has anybody think what means sales in panic?

every start of the year I hear the same sentence about that year and mid way they change it to the next year.
but strange as it may be, I agree that this year is going to be a good one for bitcoin but it is mainly because of the price rise and the media coverage that it will cause and it is going to be good media coverage and that helps a lot.
although, another thing that can change all this is the price! and how it will change in the future, if we see a bubble and then the bubble burst with price falling down, it will be bad for bitcoin and can negate all these good publicities at once.

2017 might be a crusial year for bitcoin mass adoption and acceptance.

Some governments might see bitcoin`s mass success and decide to ban or regulate btc more.

The number of people here that are very open minded are optimistic about the bitcoin price is so good that I hope that bitcoin price is going to reach the moon soon (sooner than Elon Musk :) ), the price is moving rapidly and we can't decide what is going to happen in January nor for the rest of the year.

We do not know yet what will be going to happen this coming months.As we all know bitcoin is going to crazy right now.Maybe there will be a drastically changes after this pumping.

It is right, in 2016, bitcoin give us a lot of surprises, but about only its price, Because i have a lot of hope from Halving, but it couldn't give me, because bitcoin price couldn't more too much, but acceptable. Also we need more time to promote the bitcoin in all over the world, Because if we see clearly, many country's people still don't know about any crypto currencies, So i think, it is beginning in 2017, that bitcoin go in its way. But now everything is looking very cool about bitcoin, because i am seriously surprised about bitcoin's price, everyday it is increasing.

Maybe. I think it is time altcoins took a stand. I think they will grow along side bitcoin so yes I think 2017 could be a golden year after last years altcoin explosion. Feels like there less scammy altcoins coming out. Bitcoin is steady and growing on price so these combined together must make 2017 a golden year. Let us hope.

Yes after not checking a few days cause I am away from the net (lol), I am also quite shocked in the rise .
But thinking that it will keep rising until the end is not even realistic, At some point the price will decrease and will increase . That cycle is repetitive  .

Anyways the start of 2017 is great and have exceeded my expectations so like all of you I am also looking forward to this year . I am hoping that not just a large number of people will accept bitcoin but also more companies will accept bitcoin .

i'll admit that 2016 has been an exciting year for sure, with the halving right in the middle of the year and those dramas that happened because of it and then Craig Wright's scam.

and now the price rise which is too fast, so it makes it exciting and scary at the same time because fast rises are not stable. unlike the past where i was sure that each price such as $200-350-420-500-600-700-800 and even the $900 range i was sure that price is going to stay there no matter what but with the fast rise you can not be sure.

after starting the 2017 there is a big big big fluctuation in the price of bitcoin, before 4 hours it was trading in 1145 USD and now it comes down to 830 USD and now again it is trading above 950. what is going here to the price of bitcoin?

Bitcoin price will be still very high but it is not possible to maintain that price for much longer at some point the rally needs to slow down a little bit and then we will see people selling in order to secure a profit but I think this 2017 is going to be a very good year for bitcoin and we will reach the highest price ever for bitcoin.

This circumstantial increase in the price of bitcoin does not seem a sufficient argument for me to declare that 2017 will be a "golden year" for bitcoin. Maybe this will be a great year for big speculators who continue to manipulate the price at will, but for the bitcoin ecosystem this does not seem a good news.

The start of 2017 for bitcoin is really crazy. Bitcoin has given an amazing surprise to all of its users. After a start like that it is sure that this year will bring much more happiness to us and bitcoin will flourish in this year.

I think that 2018 will be a golden year Bitcoin

Yeah, same as 2016, lots of events might happen this year. We started with the price drop and then it starts to crawl and reach this price right now. If we believe that bitcoin should be alive in 2018 and  in the future, we should not be drinking coffee, watching the price chart too much or do a panic selling just because we read a bad news, we see others selling.  :)

This year might be a deja vu of 2016 and not the older years.

The more fiat moving in the bitcoin economy the better, even if that money comes from speculation because at some point some of that money is going to stay in the bitcoin economy even if the intention was to just try to earn money in speculation.

The year 2017  to everyone we are all prophesying or I say we are all wishing but to me I will say nothing will happen ad 2017 will just be like evey other year if steps are not taken towards the direction we all wanted. A lot of predictions I have read concerning Bitcoin but I will say it will not just happen by mere wishes until those that matter to effect such change makes moves until then we only wishing...

I think that BTC will change our lives for the better. Also I can see that 2017 may be a new 2013, but you have to wait until we see that will happen.

Based on my thought as the 2017 started the price of bit coin is 1000 USD this might be the golden year of bit coin I guess, but we wait until it happen.

This block size issue has the ability to change bitcoin into a store of value rather than a currency. To even come close to the volumes of visa or mastercard you are looking at blocks of like 500MB in size or more. Not happening. Rules out unlimited blocks.

Purists wanting to keep block size at 1MB and saying anything else is an altcoin, if this is followed BTC WILL NOT become a currency used at such volumes. It simply does not have enough capacity. No amount of burying head in the sand will do it. People won't want millions of transactions filling mempools which would also increase the difficulty of running a full node too to boot and waiting ages to confirm. The high TX fees due to limited block space has already pushed me and many of my clients to Litecoin for payments as the TX fees may not be high to a westerner but they are high for an Asian.

Segwit is the best solution, but unless a consensus is formed, I think there is a chance that if Litecoin adopts it first, then BTC will be the store of value and Litecoin would be the small daily payments for everything. I never expected to switch to an Altcoin for daily payments, but this block size issue forced my hand. This is why I see Litecoin as a true companion* to Bitcoin. I trust in both currencies.

So we stand at thus:

1. Unlimited Blocks - Introduces problems that if userbase increased, we face having to propagate large blocks and storing them of stupid sizes.
2. One time increase - Band-Aid solution to wide adoption as a currency, may make it smoother as a store of value.
3. 1MB Blocks - Never can become a mainstream currency, store of value only in long term.
4. Segwit - Scaling problem fixed, Lightning network or similar, soft fork, more block space

I hate to say it, but this is the reality of it. It is trending towards option 3, and unless we implement option 4 BTC will never become a mainstream currency everyone uses for everything unless some solution to the block size issue is there.

I use Litecoin for most payments and Bitcoin as a savings store, for the above reasons. So where do we go from here? No judgement of course, if BTC becomes a store of value, that's what it becomes. The technology underlying it can be used as a currency. I am not a Litecoin 'bagholder' saying this either. I own 800+ LTC all acquired in the past year.

Litecoin will deploy segwit first it seems, and as a business owner, I will not wait for Bitcoin to follow in it's shoes, my friends and clients I am all teaching about the benefits Litecoin offers over Bitcoin for general payments. I have been waiting a while and watched the endless debate in the mean time me and my clients have been observing fee increases.

So many poo-poo it as well, and I have even been accused of trying to pump it. Even at the price peak of BTC and LTC I sold none of them, although I have sold my mining rigs because I prefer writing and running my business to get coins although I may invest in the Bitmain LTC hardware when difficulty stabilizes. Using my BTC debit card where I can pay in LTC directly now I am happy with that too.

Bitcoin and Litecoin both have their places, both are good, but this debate needs to decide what everyone wants for Bitcoin. For it to stay where it is, as a speculation tool, as a mainstream currency (requiring change, and not be stuck in 2009, just as bad as moaning about people 'stuck' in the 1970s), or a store of value like gold which cant be controlled by banks so much.

There is no judgement of course, whatever it becomes will be come, the people will decide with the consensus rule. But as an adopter of Bitcoin for Business, I will say as a small business owner that pays my rent and bills nicely I have made the switch to Litecoin for my daily transactions over the internet with all but two clients, because as a small business owner Litecoin deploying segwit and able to handle greater transaction volumes makes it more suited as the currency I use to conduct business than Bitcoin which is more like digital gold.

Good start of the year and I say yes, I am positive we can be more successful this year compared to the past years of bitcoin. I even think that we can surpass what has been the greatest achievement in the past. Most if not all of us are longing to see another milestone of success and with the present price of bitcoin, it's possible we can crossed $2,000 by the end of the year.

The start was much amazing especially the first few days of 2017 and the amazing thing is continued. I believe that in this whole year bitcoin will spread almost all of the world and the price of it will increase much high.

The golden year did not start well... price dropped from $1200 to $700. But I am sure more and more services and businesses will be with bitcoin and more and more people will use bitcoin. So in long run, bitcoin is up for sure.

Yes, of course. This is the golden year of bitcoin because the bitcoin has a big value. As we can see the graph of bitcoin growth between past year and now has a big difference, its so fast increasing the worth of bitcoin. So it's normal we thought that the bitcoin in this year is still increasing and doesn't decreased and that's why this year is a golden year and thought for a full of surprises that comes.

I think the conditions for the bitcoin is not same in all country like the 2017 because some countries are against the bitcoin flow in their public .
Here the fresh example of bitcoin rules of restrictions is INDIA  , Inadian government made some rules. , according to those rules we can't make deals directly in non-banking wallet ( like recharge apps , payment app Paytm , other example are mobikwik , free charge ,phonepe , oxygen wallet etc ) .
So here we need to make direct deal with bank to btc and btc to bank . It means there is much control of flow of bitcoin and money in bitcoin .
So it may be possible new people will stop to enter in bitcoin job .

First of all - The concept of Bitcoin is Decentralization so it depends upon forces or market i.e. demand and supply and share of single seller/buyer is too low is total demand/supply that he/she is not in position to influence the price!

Ok, now ignoring the above fact lets come to reality. In present scenario, China has major influence on BTC. We can see the slight interference of China Bank lead to $350 downfall in Bitcoin price last week. So it has become really difficult to predict bitcoin future.

But still believing in the concept of Decentralization, I can say or rather hope Bitcoin price will double this year as more and more people joining it everyday!

The pump has ended and we should be happy we are still seeing stability in price to be rounding off near $800 and not slipping down more, the beginning of this year had already been golden and I think that we will see bitcoin growing like never before with increased adoption too which would help the circulation more.

Wat! Bitcoinz moving to china?

Bitcoin withdrawal is restricted in china so it's leading to pump bitcoin in another exchanges and i hope it can be stable at the price of 1100$ in one month. I expect the price is still on rally increase in June of this year.

as far as price goes and the rise of it, we are all happy and enjoy the rise.  and it has been rising so far with a very solid rate.
but as far as adoption goes, we are not yet close to the golden ages. and i will call a year a "golden year" when we can see some real adoption and see some more people seeing bitcoin as a currency.

I totally agree with your that this will be golden year. My estimation is for price to be at 1500 this year.

Yes 2017 is golden year for bitcoin and I hope that government will adopt the bitcoin for their country and i think bitcoin technology will more advance in this year then bitcoin will replace the dollar in the future.

I think that 2017 year will be like 2016 year nothing special because now bitcoin price is growing with really weird way i dont see anymore growings like 1000-2000% or more pff.

I have to agree with that because we are still in the first quarter of the year and yet we are close to $1,200 which is just $100 away to beat the all time high. I will stay positive we can achieve that within this quarter or the least within this year, the way the price move would already convince us believers that we are so close to getting that success, so let us stay tune and witness another history in the making.

Really? The current trends should make you rescind your thoughts on Bitcoin this year because it's growing at astronomical speed and this increments should it hold for 2 more months within this year will jump the price close to $2000 range. Forget about the dumps but it's always rose back up after a major dump this year. It's rather going to stabilize after the persistent pumps.

yes from the very beginning of 2017 the price of bitcoin is increasing, therefore we can expect that the price of bitcoin will cross 2000 USD level very soon and that is the reason that 2017 will be the golden year of 2017.

every year that passes, is somewhat a golden year for bitcoin. we are seeing a consistent growth despite all the naysayers and those who want to see bitcoin fail.
the price is the only thing that most people see and it is the most obvious one that is growing but if you take a deeper look and do some research about service, there has been so many more of them this year compared to last and so on. and this shows growth in the adoption.

I think 2017 was a year of stability Bitcoin, I mean Bitcoin price. Bitcoin prices hold steady so powerful and perched above the $1000 to the present. Unlike in previous years, when prices rise, not long after the price will shrink down. It's very interesting, because it's out there so much speculation about this Bitcoin price.

I think now that 2017 is same like 2016 year or 2015 because there is no kaboom growing ,bitcoin growing is still same like before so without skyrocketing price this isnt golden year for me.

I don't know if this year would be a golden year, because a WW3 scenario it's pretty closed, and I'm sure that the internet connection will be lost, and we wouldn't connect with each other or transfer our BTC. I hope something like that won't happen. We will see..

Its not even the second half of 2017 but bitcoin has already reached ATH this year correct? So this year can be consider as golden year. We have to see what will happen to the other half and might get a good market price to end the year and truly say that 2017 is golden year for bitcoin.

The first few months have been very good for bitcoin in terms of price movement. We have all seen how it is capable of reaching new highs in a very short period of time. There will be months where it would seem like it has lost steam and would just idle for a while only to surprise us with another surge. If we could only get past $1,200 and break the walls that keep the price at that levels, I can imagine that we can hit $1,500 before the year ends.

Kaboom growing, like you call it, was happening in the end of 2013 and we all know that it ended up badly for Bitcoin, so we definitely don't need something like that now. I personally like how it is going this time - a constant steady growth during the last 18 months.

I think that 2017 could be good for bitcoin, but it does not need to be that way necessarily.
Bitcoin has some challanges that have to be mastered. Solve the blocksize porblem for example.
And Bitcoin still needs to grow. It can only do so by gaining more users. And for more users, bitcoin needs more trust.
I do not think regulations would be such a bad thing, especially in matters of exchanges.
When people feel more secure, they might be persuaded more easily to try bitcoin.

From last year middle onwards bitcoin started to flourish and become more popular. 2016 gave good increase in user base as well a lot of startups based on blockchain serving in several sectors from finance to supply chain. And following that 2017 really started well and in between something made a collapse but as it's termed the return​back to the increased price made it the golden year.

I agree. bitcoin will keep over pricing than gold. And this is what "golden" means in your title.  :D
