Title: Slow CPU-mining on new i7 MacBook Post by: Ali on June 15, 2011, 04:17:21 PM I've got a new 15" MacBook with 2 GHz Intel Core i7.
All 8 cores generate only like 4 khash/s with RpcMiner.app. Even my much older Intel Core 2 Duo is capable to generate at least 6 khash/s and that one has 6 cores less. What is going wrong? Could be the app.
I get ~1.2MHash/s on my i5-430M on W7, but it varies greatly with the use of the computer. It's also not really "free" unless you are not using your computer, because CPU mining usually slows your computer greatly (GPU mining does not, unless you're gaming). I also have an 2008' MacBook but I don't bother to even try that. You will pay more for electricity than you will earn from bitcoins. Search the forums.

I'll still mine the GPU a little. Upgrading to OSX Lion as I heard rumours it may improve the performance (15 MHash/s currently at low temperature).
